Harvest & Curing Drying in a brown bag

Very good thread. I’ve been having some issues either with this or my bud is just low smelling. Should I notice the bags having damp patches? I’ve never seen any damp patches on the paper bags I’ve been using. Aldi’s brown paper bag and a sandwich brown paper bat

I have never had wet spots in brown bags and that’s the only way I dry. How high do you layer them? I do enough to cover the bottom and also cut the big cola’s into smaller pieces

I've had troubles with overdrying or drying too quickly with brown bags. I've recently switched to using new clean pizza boxes. It's helped extend my drying time a bit.

Guys ive been paper bag drying for years now.... For me its the only way to dry bud.... Keeps nearly all its smell and tastes pretty much the same as a 3 week cure....
The only thing i would like to add is that you should be very care when you fold your bags up..... They do need a bit of air around them....
I use the big brown store bags and only fold it half way down.... Couple of close pegs to keep it shut tight, also try not to open the bag to often, if you break the buds down yes they will dry a lot quicker, but if you have that show piece cola that can still be dried the same way.....

Everybody should try it once.... Ive never lost bud to mold this way.....
I got a ❓❓ so I got a 36inx20inx63in drying curring tent..can I hang bags or put bags in boxes and stack in there...I have a cool mist humidifier, and inkbird humidity controller....to keep humidity in range...so keep it at 50% right? And oscillating fan....for 5 days.. I want to keep my buds as big as possible....this is my first grow...here's a pic of small tent... It's the smallest tent....will I need to put a inline ventilation fan for smell? Or can I seal the tent as long as I have good air flow?? need good advice please anyone can chime in...thanks here's my babies....I got good brown paper bags at my job with handles I can take them off if need to fold...

Just want to leave an update here.

My 3Wok that I had dried in brown paper bags smelled “decent/ok”. Since moving them to grove bags and being in there for a like a month, the smell is insane.. like seriously.

Here’s what I’ve learned with brown bags. First things first, they work. Second thing, if whenever you’re drying them is quite high with humidity then hang your bags. This also prevents the buds from being squashed against the floor or something else. Third thing is, I forgot two bags that had some weed left sitting in them for like a month. Despite being left bone dry in the brown paper bag and not any proper curing, it’s damn loud.

I’ve tried McDonald’s bags, supermarket bags, and my favourite is Aldi (uk peeps), and the small lunch bag kinda ones.

Moral of the story is, if you’ve made sure that you have pulled your plant at peek potency, it may not smell great and the smel will die down in the bags after a few days then ppl like myself tend to worry. But trust me, give it a month in a grovebag or jar with proper curing and you will be crazy surprised. My best smelling weed yet and I had next to zero faith because the smell dies down after a couple days.

Another thing to note is, I stored them on a line/rope within a cardboard box and had a portable dehumidifier to keep my humidity in the 40s-50s.

Last key note is make sure once you think they are dry, that you do pop another brown paper bag over the one with your weed in it and take it off a day later. This is called the sweating process. It is very very important in my eyes and I’ll never skip this step again.

Hope someone learns from my update ^ :smoking:

If u got a dry tent it’s even better. I just used cardboard so I could maintain the environment inside easily. With a stable 50% humidity you’re looking at around 6 days dry time, and an additional day or two of sweating process. If you want to use brown paper bags, id just hang them up on the poles and run an extractor fan and see where the humidity is at.
