Harvest & Curing Drying in a brown bag

I posted recently about final jar humidity, sorry if it was here...lol... But i never dry bud until its Bone dry... 55% rh is good if your looking to store your buds, by the time you hit them numbers your bud is completely dry....

I like to jar mine between 60-65%.... Buds are firm but theres a little bend to the stalk, jars are then burped every 1-2 hours for a couple of days then a few time a week.....
Guys i cant stress how important it is to keep the jars burped, also take your bud out of the jar and turn it around.... Soooo easy to get Powdery Mildew but a few simple steps helps.....
So don't get me wrong but, you don't sleep for 48hrs. every time you harvest? Lol Are you curing something else too? AaCHOO

I use the brown bag for all of the fan leaf trimmings and then straight to the oven and then slow cooker to make canna butter. I prefer the easy Ghirardelli Brownie mix and just substitute canna butter for veg oil.

Sooo, I'm planning on using the paper bag method for drying this grow. Mind you, I've read through the whole thread and found answers to most of my questions, but just want to be sure, so I'm gonna ask them anyway :smoking:.

First of all, there is no need to dry hang the branches before bagging? Just trim, separate big colas into golf ball size buds and put them in the bag?
Do the bags need to be opened or do the buds need to be shuffled? If so, how many times during the dry?
In my situation, I'll probably put the bags in my still working grow tent. Is that OK? Is the HPS light or temperature (around 24-25 C) going to be a problem?

That's about it I think, gonna tag some people that seem to paper bag, but I'm really not sure : @912GreenSkell @RamboGarden @Sensi Jay @hippy71 @TheMongol @L0wbob2017 @blue @Micron Creek

If you think of anyone else, tag them in, sorry to be a bother people :bighug:.

I have dried buds with the paper-bag-method in my grow-room, not letting direct light hit the bags as that gets to warm for them inside the bag(I use hps). Brown bags is better then white bags as the brown bags let less light inside. I cant remember the temps where I have the bags, but its probably 20-22C. If it gets to warm they will sweat out the water to fast. If you have the bags on the floor and build a "parasoll" for them it should work, get a small fan circulate the air so the bag dries. Also put the bags on something so the bottom not standing straight on the floor. If standing straight on the floor, the bottom won't dry. Maybe someone else have an idea about direct light, my experience is that they dry out to quickly and light get through the bags.

I use a cardboard box, strung with fishing line. 2 to 3 tiers inside to hold hanging branches. Hang branches, close up box, 5 to 6 days. No messing with trichomes involved.
Flowers get classic xmas tree shape.

Just some fun info: Morrocco (or how you write) people dry MJ on top of roofs. Under the sun. At 40°C or more.

Hey mate :pass:

I usually chop mine and take all the buds off the branches immediately, and trim the buds. Then I put them on a sheet of brown non-waxed paper for about 10 hours maybe, just out in the house somewhere. Last time I hung individual buds on a washing line in the house for ten hours instead. Then I put some straight into brown non-waxed paper bags and hang them from a clothes hanger somewhere warm, like 20 degrees or so. I also have some wicker drawers that I've lined with brown paper and I put the rest in there with another layer of paper over the top of the buds. Just a single layer of buds in the bags and the drawers. I turn/shake them a few times. I also just leave a few buds hanging out in the house for a quicker dry. Last time I dried some sour stomper as whole branches as well, then buds off branches into glass.

Gotta be honest mate, I can't really tell much difference at all between all the different methods. Except the quick hang dried stuff is a bit less smelly. I personally think it's the cure that makes all the difference. Just gotta make sure you get the buds into glass at the right time.

well the "best" way of drying is in a dark room at about 18°C and RH at about 50% for about 7-10 days from what i've read. And don forget cure!. Thats because you want the chlorophyll to be turn down completely before you smoke it. This changes/increases smell, look and taste if done correctly.

In the past i found a pretty good way to do it with a cardbox from changing appartments. Install some strings to hang the branches and then close it. Get a big towel and lay it on top of the box to cover all holes and almost all light incoming.
Then i install a fan on one side and also lay the towel over it. Get a timeclock and set it to 30 mins every 6 hours to be turned on. The fan blowes air on the side where you can put in your hand to put the cardbox up. Because of the hole is so small there is only a bit fresh air blowed inside. Last time it took 8 days to be dry. You can open the box from time to time to see the progress.

I think the method with the brownbag is similar because the bag isnt airsealed the humidity can get out but not that fast. Maybe when you put it into your growroom the light is to bright and the buds will get some light which will activate the cholorphyll ( which you dont want ). Also the temp of 24-25°C could be good for mold to spread. the cooler the better but dont got under 15°C. Cold air can hold more humidity than warm air.
