Hey Liquid! Thanks for stopping in !
I got a few items from Gotham in the past, never had a problem at all. Don't have anything bad to say about them. Got my tent and other little things there. Many people here have had good times dealing with them.
I guess I look at it like - whether I deal direct with a Chinese manufacturer or Gotham, there is going to be a down time if there is an issue with the light. Could My LED panel fry out in a month? Sure it could. Probably not. If I have an issue, I can send a description of the problem, pics or video , and they will send me anything needed , parts wide for 3 years. I'm sure I would have to come up with a backup plan until I get the parts I suppose. This guy sent me pics of the unit complete, taken apart, photos of all the parts inside, what it looks like when they assemble. Pretty neat.
I was soooo close to pulling the trigger on the Advanced LED sight. Please don't get me wrong, their lights are probably badass- I just couldn't spend the $$$ And I stopped myself and just did a little bit of reading on the spectrums, I admit I took a chance dealing with overseas direct from China. The salesman wasn't pushy at all , was extremely knowledgeable and got me exactly what I was looking for. Keen Feng is the salesmans name there, see if you can get ahold of him. As for your question about the 4G series and the cases - What they have done is basically made the modular design easier to work on, updated the look of the cases and what not. I haven't been over there recently to look - They may now offer 5w setups. Remember though a 270w rated light isn't getting you a true 270w. Not happening. IMO, any reputable company will be up front and honest with you about this matter (mine was) , I was told for what I am trying to do, 1 will suffice, 2 would be ideal. Im going to be honest with you here - I grabbed the wavelengths from LED PRO GROW site, and decided on 90 degree lenses. I know you are reading and you are probably right, My light will not be as awesome as a Pro Grow I bet, but I cant personally spend what they want. And after seeing my results, I am def happy with my purchase. I wound up spending I think 270 shipped. DHL came FAST! Packaged amazing, it was packaged like it was going to be dropped from an airplane! There were a lot of companies that were shady that just want your quick buck- I kid you not brother, I spoke with about 10-15 before deciding on Luyizhi. I did not want to pay a middle man here an outrageous percentage.
In a way I feel like - I really wish that Our American people could use American parts, assembled and sold by us here and make it affordable for us. It could be possible that my manufacturer is not using the same caliber LEDS that USA built guys are, I don't know. I don't know a whole lot about it, honestly. California Light Works are doing amazing things right here in the USA! I wanted to go their route, and didn't have the $$$ together then. Hindsight I could have saved up and supported their outfit, kind of wish I did to be honest. put the money here in our hands. Look at Ford and Chevy. There are so many parts on your Dodge that are made outside the US for money reasons. Your car costs a lot of money partly in fact of Unions. What it costs to PAY the worker assembling it. China will do it WAY cheaper. The bottom line, that's what Big US companies are about (most not all). At the time I wanted to try this out under $300 bucks. Still having to get a fan filter, food and soil etc...
I know I rambled, please forgive me, the sight I give you has a standard layout - the ratio of led's per module. You can ask them for different ratios. The ratios are given per module , as an example, my light has 6 modules. 15 LEDs per module - so you can make up whatever ratio you would like - like... 7:3:3:1:1 (again this is just as an example - you can see my ratio early in the thread) I don't think casing design or colors mean anything about the configuration. Almost all of the Chinese LED manufacturers use a majority of red. There are a couple types of red LED, and a couple types of blue, if I remember correctly. I personally wanted short internode growth and a lot of leaf production, I asked to have more blue put into it. I think my buds may be fatter at this point with more red, but again for my purposes I am thrilled.

Good luck, and if you want to ask me anything feel free I will certainly try to help you the best I can brother!

PS - there are hundreds of these Chinese manufacturers all claiming to make "Blackstar" lights. I don't know who the exact supplier is, maybe there are multiple that the Blackstar sight uses. I looked into CIDLY as well, others have had good luck with them. I personally mailed *3* times and no response. Didn't want to go that route. My salesman stays in touch _every_ week since date of purchase. When you buy something, its not always about the sale, but the service afterwards. He checks in and sees how I am liking it, and gives me newsletters about new stuff. Good Outfit IMO
