New year, new start, new grow!

I've been lurking on here, UK420 and Reddit - absorbing loads of helpful advice through osmosis! I found Hans grow diaries an inspiration :thanks:And wanted to keep a diary of my 2021 grow. Any advice or questions appreciated

I've grown before, but this is a step up from window grows/CFL/first generation LED blue. I want to be self sufficient, stealthy, affordable and fairly low maintenance.

I'm starting small with 2 auto power plant seeds from dutch passion. Seeds popped in on new years day after following cotton pad technique (took just 24hrs). Just showed their heads this morning (2 days in). Still under DIY hydration domes to help keep humidity/temp up whilst they're fresh.

My set up is:
+ 80x80x160 grow tent in 90x120x165 insulated box providing room for reservoir adjacent to tent (50mm all round with 100mm roof)
+ 100mm/4" duct with appropriate carbon filter and inline fan (latter outside tent in insulated box hanging from bungees - huge noise reduction)
+ two EnFun EF-2000 LED Grow Light (200W)
+ 800w oil filled rad (keeping tent circa 24C)

Growing in two pot autopot system, with canna clay pebbles in bottom 2" (2.5ltr per pot) with 12. 5ltr canna coco coir medium. Prior to popping seeds I soaked each pot in 1.5ltr rainwater warmed to temperature with added Vita Link 1ml CalMag and 0.8ml Silicon Max, using pH down to 5.8.

My next steps are to get EC/ppm pen working for next proper water (2-4 days depending on coco moisture), and a clip fan (plus a few other goodies including rubber plant ties for LST) now I'm paid! Wondering when to remove humidity domes and then turn on clip fan, thinking domes at next water and starting fan at top of tent to help circulation a few days after that. I'll post some snaps shortly once there's more to see!

OK, so not heaps to see! But I'm very excited :headbang:

here they are just breaking the surface. Humidity in tent is 35%, temp fairly
consistent 24C. LED at 26" and half power (50W per plant). Soil still moist so I'm leaving them be, although back one still had seed casing on that I gently helped off.

Wish me luck :jointman:

Looks like your off to a good start. I would recommend working on getting your RH up. 35% is very low, especially for seedlings.

Thanks Russ, I thought it might be! For now I've sprayed surface and inside of plastic bottles with deionised water, with a little on tent floor/walls.

I'm looking at some fleabay humidifiers and also radiator hanging passive ones. Anyone tried this approach?

I thought of fogger approach but not keen on having outside tent where passive intake is due to electricity/safety. I'm also a little surprised, as attic seems reasonable humidity. Waiting on digital hygrometer, will then put my old school version outside tent

The initial investment to start up a grow can be expensive. There are some tools that are priority. Where I live a humidifier is a must. In a pinch you might try hanging a damp towel in the tent and allowing a fan to circulate around. Not very much control available that way. If you haven't got a fan yet put that on the must have list as well.

Thanks again for helping Russ :bighug:

I hadn't expected humidity to be low in an English attic in January, but think it's related to need to heat from 2->24C. Ordered humidifier and hanging wet towel this eve, will see what that does to room humidity. I think seedlings are humid whilst under plastic bottles, but don't want their growth stunted once they're unleashed

Edit: just checked and humidity up to 55% in less than an hour thanks to towel. Added a second and removed humidity domes. Gonna check them every 12-14 hours until I'm happy grow environment is stable

Thanks Noisas. The vibe of this forum reminds me of one I frequented as a teenager twenty years ago! Friendly, lots to explore and comfortable.

I thought I'd try a diary and jump in feet first. Partly as a need for homegrown arose (batch of poor outdoor seeds and mildew meant my family supply was dry); but also as part of me trying to become a doer (rather than thinker/worrier) once again. Damn covid and work derailing me!

Anyway, back the the plants! :smoking: attached are pics, day 6 since planting seed and day 3 above ground. Humidity (55) and temp (24) stable. Fan arrives today and humidifier this weekend. Think I'll wait another couple of days before next watering (with first feed) as coco still moist, but checking them with the 'knuckle test'!
