Good question CC. Don't just rely on my personal interpretation here, because i'm sure there are grower's out there who have a different take on things, and it's likely that their experiences are just as valuable to you..What's your take on the dark period before chopping theories. I didn't do that since I kinda "had" to chop.. but still would like to know your take on this myth.
I'm still in the process of evaluating this idea actually, and have no direct observations to speak of but it would seem logical to me that the plants should perhaps be run 24/0 for a few days before the extended nocturnal period is undertaken to get the most from it - since the process of cannabinoid synthesis should involve both factors to function accordingly - If the process is dependent on the plant-energy surplus but takes place predominantly during the dark period as this hypothesis would indicate, then the plant photo-synthetic tissues would require an extended day period beforehand to meet the resin-synthetic turnover during the nocturnal period. The question of whether or not the synthetic rate is enhanced by this treatment deserves some further investigation.
From my understanding of plant physiology, the same in-vitro synthetic processes still continue to occur within the harvested product for a short period of time during the drying period - since aromatic resin secretion is indeed independent of plant vascular capacity which is inhibited as soon as the cola is removed from the plant stock (this is in fact the major obstacle that the horticulturalist must overcome when grafting a scion on to a root stock), it seems reasonable therefore to assume that the effect of nocturnal resin secretion should be observed regardless to whether you choose to chop and place the colas in the dark to dry or you choose place the entire plant mass itself in the dark for a period of time. A side by side could have been done to measure this but for now i think it's a good decision that you have made to just proceed to finish line and get the job done. And a good one it is, well timed, well organized and the fruits of the labor are seriously mouth-watering..
