Yes, I've been messing around with lighting. I've got several 300 watt CFLs from past grows, but they've got mogul bases, so have to go in a big assed reflector that will really screw with the height thing. I just used them for side lighting with halides in the past, but I got rid of the halides and sure won't miss the heat or the godawful hum the ballests make. I've also got a number of 26 watt CFLs (100 watt equivalents). I've attached clamp lights to an adjustable metal shower curtain rod, and plan on getting some twin socket adapters for the clamp fixtures. The clamps don't really clamp that well, but I've used zip-lock ties to keep them in place and that seems to work okay. This way I'll be able to get the smaller CFL lights up as high as they'll go. I'd love to add a small LED UFO too, but I hear they've got to be at least 18" away from the tops. I'm still pondering on how to do that one.
I'm pretty certain I can flower out one big plant, or two small autos. I ordered Short Stuff's Dr. Feelgood for the Meds, and their Russian Rocket Fuel for a daytime smoke. Both are said to stay under 2 feet, so I went for it. I've also got a Chronic Lights photo coming in that get's maybe 4' tall. I'd sure have to bend that one over, but I ordered it because it had excellent pain relief reviews.
On the photo strain, I really like the idea of topping the plant when it's young. Folks say it makes a HUGE difference on yield.
I should add that when it comes to tying off plants, I'm just going to fill some empty 1/2 gallon milk jugs with water, put the cap back on and lay the jugs down on the floor of the tub on their sides. I figure I can use the handles to tie off to.
