Chronic Pain Patients, What Strains Work Best for You?

Remember, doctors have been feed as much or more misinformation than we have! Keeping up on cannabis is not likely to be high priority for many doctors, especially the older ones. Its up to us to educate those doctors when we can.

Good lord, pop. That's terrible. :sadcry: My issues started in late '09 - I was in culinary school and I bent down to lift a box of ingredients off of a low shelf. Felt a "pop" in my lower back. Figured I pulled a muscle, kept on with my day. The next morning I woke up in agony, and it was all I could do to roll out of bed onto the floor and force myself upright. Since then I've bulged discs in my upper back and neck, and developed symptoms of what the wifey, girlfriend & MIL all tell me sounds like fibro or chronic fatigue syndrome. Wheeee! :cuss:

As for doctors - I told my PCP that I use cannabis for pain. She said that she couldn't condone or recommend it for me (technically a legal medical state, but still in the very very early stages) but if it worked, keep up with it. I recently saw my pain management doc after suffering a bout of sciatica (never had that before, and christ, is that some terrible pain) and when I told him I medicate with cannabis he literally sat back in his chair and looked at me like I farted on his cornflakes then proceeded to interrogate me about how much I use, how often, how long I've been medicating with it, etc. I've never been a fan of doctors, but even less so when they're telling me how the plant that I'm using to alleviate my pain and mental stress is dangerous and unstudied, but hey, take this Tramadol for a week or so instead and see how it works out. :face::face:

Canna is the best medicine I've found. And I can't tolerate half the pain med they have any way, for some reason, I become toxic with them when taken as prescribed!
I understand what your going thru.

Ditto. I don't know exactly what it is but for me most medicines don't work properly. They either have little to no effect, or they work but the side effects are horrendous. And as for pain meds - I have an addictive personality, and come from a family with a history of addiction issues. I smoked between 1.5-2 packs of cigarettes a day from 16 to 29 (no joke). I am a fat kid with an addiction to food. I have noticed myself taking more pain meds than I need when I have them prescribed to me. I tell my doctors these things, and that addiction runs in my family, and that I've had to bury one of my best friends the day before he turned 18 from a heroin overdose - and for all of those reasons, I choose to utilize cannabis rather than pharmaceuticals. But never, save for my GP, have I had a doctor who even considered hearing me out about it. It makes you angry.

Nobody should have to justify to anyone else, let alone a physician, utilizing a plant that has demonstrable healing properties and no significant drawbacks.

But like everyone, I have good days and bad days. What I'm having a hard time with is that I may have to have 2 surgeries, one on my shoulder and the plate in my neck, and I'm concerned that they will leave me in more pain than they cure........

I hear you. It's for that exact reason that I chose to take a leap of faith when my last pain management doctor told me that the only options he had left for me were injections or perhaps surgery. I have been lucky to be able to avoid having to take those steps, but I'd be lying if I told you I didn't give up some measure of my functionality/quality of life due to my choice to avoid them But at the same time, I'm so afraid that once I start down that road, it will be a slippery slope to more and more procedures. So you end up caught between accepting a loss of functionality, and of who you are, because it's a lesser evil than trying the thing that might help you...or might make you worse. My wife has a hard time understanding the mental gymnastics that I go through with decisions like that - she sees me in so much pain on my bad days, and to her, anything that might end those painful days is worth exploring. But to me, I think of the pain that I'm in now, and how much worse it *could* be if I let them do the procedures. It's hard, man. I get it.

I'm sorry that you're having to face making that decision, dude. I don't know if I could make that choice if I were faced with it myself. :pass:

I did more prescribed meds than anyone should have in the early years of my injury.

I ended up getting pain block injections for almost a year(once a week) and honestly they did nothing. The specialized surgeons I saw refused surgery due to the severity of the upper neck injury and the location(basically the control center for the brain), so I am stuck the way I am.

Good luck @pop22 and @ANTiFA its a hard fought battle with serious spine issues.

I feel for all of you that have posted that have to go through our daily lives of trying to function with Chronic Pain.

Looks like I started this thread coming up on two years ago,and have found what type of strains that work for me. Basically pure Indicas, and high CBD strains. I sincerely hope you all are able to find and tailor genetics that work for each of you.

Indicas that I have found that work wonders for me. All photo strains, but can be grown as small as most autos.
Black Domina
Wild Pakistani (a.k.a. Aunt of Foruk)
Sensi Star
Sour Bubble
Any Indica land races that have not polluted by Dutch and other genetics. Most land races are naturally high in CBDs and other medicinal compounds that have been bred out in favor of only trying to achieve high THC%, and large yields.

Be well all!

Indica and Indica dominant strains are what works ofr me mostly. An exception is Trainwreck Even though Sativa dom, its great pain meds, and a good daytime med also! Its one of my top five!

I recently got to try Rhino Ryder and that is a damn fine Indica strain! Fast Buds have some really nice genetics, for those who are looking. They just need a little more Indica strains in their lineup

Blue Dragon is Blueberry Headband x Durrty Dragon

Blueberry Headband is very under rated. I consider it a top shelf strain.
Nice genetics brother, I bet it is indeed a winner. I just looked up the genetic make-up on Train Wreck, and it indeed sounds worth checking out. The breeder, stated 3% CBD. Didn't say what Sativa was used though. Actually, sounds like one of those out of many great strains, that they really don't know for sure what genes are in them.

Peace.
