Has anyone used or know anything about the COB full spectrum chip that you can just wire direct into the 110/220. I have an old style Mars 300 that has half the leds out and I want to use the case, cord, etc and put in 6 of these chips. I have no idea what the actual draw wattage is and just wondering if the 6 would be equal or better than the old 3x100? Would really be a cheap ass build. Anybody try these?

I wonder if the heat sink and fans out of the 300 would be enough?

I looked at them, and the first thing that wen't through my head was "heat" as you're first converting mains voltage and then driving the LED in the same package. They may be easier to work with since you don't need a driver, but personally I would prefer an "external" driver so all that heat wasn't coming from one source as IF it goes up high enough then regular PVC cable will degrade quickly.

Fu#k it, most of you know me well enough to know I’m more about helping than making sales. I can’t watch and pretend not to know what’s going on here,

I mentioned this is in the past a few times, cobs are not magical. They do not turn cheap leds into super efficient pound growers. With these and all lights for that matter the actual LES light emitting source is 90% of what makes a light good. Cheap leds don’t put out the amount of light a quality led does. Specs numbers efficiency is all to much to get into here but I will tell you that you would probably be downgrading if that’s even possible. Efficiency is poor and life expectancy is very poor

Yeah I agree. From what reviews I can find, heat is always mentioned. Most all recommend a fan driven heat sink.

Thanks for your input @BigSm0 you know that you get what you pay for and I am sure this is no different. I really don't need a super light, I've been growing with 3x100 Mars, three of them in my 2x4x5 ft tall tent. I have to LST the shit of my girls to keep them from outgrowing the tent height. What I want is deeper canopy penetration. Been hearing alot about DIY COBs and want to try building a light that would at least equal the 3X100. The drivers in my old mars are 55-100 volt and there are 4 drivers. Can someone recommend a chip that would do what I want done? Thanks for helping out.

Safety would be another huge factor, for me. Chinese look-alike products are getting more and more prevalent. I used to consider myself an expert at the "This one on ebay is just a rebranded version of this one, for half the price" game. Not so much anymore. There is some honestly dangerous crap out there, with BS "safety" ratings to make us feel safe, when, in reality, they are meaningless, or nearly so.
A good example is the ROHS label splashed all over Chinese grow lights. It is nice, I suppose, to know that my new light isn't made from cadmium infused lead, with two coats of cancer applied. BUT, even that certifies absolutely nothing. It is a manufacturer statement that their product complies with the standard. Who do you suppose is checking on that, in China??
I have a cheapo Viparspectra light, but I watch it warily, and will be replacing it with my two shiny new American assembled Autocobs for my next grow.
Peace of mind has a price!
Regards, Kyle

What chip do the Autocobs run?

Citizen 1212s are 36v COBs....you could run a pair off of each I think. The 1812s and 1818s are 50v and I know for a fact you can run one of those off a Vipar/Mars conversion. I actually started my journey into COBs with a few of those cheap drivers. They will definitely work until you can upgrade to Mean Well HLG series drivers. Cree CXB3590 are available in 36v and 72v versions.... but they are spendy especially if you are already trying to save some money on a Mars conversion. If you want to know exactly what to get....take pics of your driver specs, and how many you have. There is also a thread from about a year ago specifically about Mars conversions started by the resident genuis Mr Bigsm0....so that might be another good spot to check. Just make sure to make a build list and parts sheet before you open the wallet up, because there is little things that can get overlooked like T.I.M., Wire and holders, connectors etc....I can tell you that this project is truly simple and if you can turn a screwdriver and use wire cutters, by all means dig in.
