New Grower Blue Cheese in Coco: First personal grow in 10 years and first ever autoflowers

Good to see some MT roots on here. Welcome and good luck to you! :goodluck:
It is for sure, I'll hopefully be moving back in the next few years I miss it real bad! Thanks bud!

Update #5

Hey all, plant 1 is on day 9 and plant 2 on day 8, just pushing out their second leaf sets. I did lower the lights another 4 inches or so yesterday and may lower to 18" soon. They are still stretching a bit, but at this level they can grow into the light and the stalks seem to be strengthening up. I plan on adding another light in a week or so, maybe a ts600 since the price is right and that will bring me up to 40w per square foot as I get into flowering.

The critical auto plant is looking good as well, now on day 3. Hopefully the bigger plants will start taking off after the second set of leaves comes in, I'd really like to top them during the third week. I've been fertigating around 400ppm, but will be upping that to 450ppm tonight, I think they'll take it well.

This is my first personal grow in Coco and first ever without an auto watering system, and first experience with LEDs, I'm learning every day. I also have a detailed daily plant journal I keep in a notepad so I can go back and see what to change when I get to the next run.

Heres to strong growth AFN!

Update #6

Hey all! The bigger plants are at day 11 and Day 10 today. Plant #1 has been showing a calmag deficiency for a few days, I am up to 2.5ml Calmag per gallon feeding around 500ppm total which seems to be helping, but if it continues on the fresh growth I may do a foliar feeding. Growth on both has been decent and seems to be speeding up as that second leaf set matures.

The critical plant looks decent as well, on day 5.

Hey all, I'll start with my background and the basics of the grow and will update with pictures of the seedlings when I open the tent later.

Like I said in the title, this is my first grow in quite a long time. I started growing in 2006 as part of the Montana medical scene. I was mostly interested in organic growing and settled on using Subcool's super soil mix in my small 3x3 tent. I later built a greenhouse as well and a 4000w HPS room with some fellow caregivers. We did pretty well, but split up and left the Montana medical scene when it collapsed in 2011 after a crazy series of raids. There's a documentary about what happened, it was crazy. The Montana scene has rebounded a lot since then, but I'm currently in a different legal state.

After I left Montana I worked for a large producer in Colorado and later helped to open the first legal medical production facilities in another state on the east coast. After a bad break with the last cannabis company I worked for in 2013, I left the industry and spent my time fly fishing and trout bumming around the west.

Now I've settled in a new state which recently legalized and decided to throw a small setup together since I've spent most of the last year budless and don't care much for the dispensary system. I settled on autoflowers after seeing how far the genetics have come, if you had told me I'd be growing autos ten years ago I would have laughed, but now, not wanting to set up a separate veg area and deal with cloning, they are perfect and will be a nice challenge as I relearn the art of growing cannabis.

My current setup is:
27x27x63" Tent
4" Exhaust Fan + Filter
1000w Spiderfarmer LED (may upgrade or add light)
3gal fabric pots
Canna Coco mixed with >30% Perlite
Maxibloom
Calimagic
Seeds:
This run will be 3 of my 5 Barney's Blueberry Cheese. I also bought 7 Mephisto Mango Smile, 7 Mephisto Samsquanch OG, 6 Ethos Pluto Cut, 6 Ethos Zweet, and 6 Ethos Purple Thai. Yep I'm a seed horder haha

I'll get some pictures and show the current state of affairs later,

Thanks for the wealth of knowledge you guys have provided here on the forum, here's to speedy growth

You have an amazing backstory and I'm super interested in watching this stream. Good luck to you I'm excited to watch it all go down :headbang: :joy:

Update #7

Hey all, short update. The plants are on day 14, day 13 and day 7. I'm still fighting the calcium deficiency on plant 1, its growing pretty steadily and the new growth looks better, but its still showing the spots. Plant 2 is looking a lot better and is spreading its wings, thats a 3 gallon pot it's in. The younger critical auto is looking good considering it hasn't recieved much attention.

I'm realizing that this tent is going to fill up quick! I'm researching upgrading my lights from 100 watts to something around 200w which will let me make the most out of my 5 square feet.

All the best,
G

Not an update, but a few thoughts I'm having. First off, I can already tell 3 plants may be too much for my tent, I was worried about stunting since this is my first grow in a decade and first handwatering in coco, but I don't think that will be the case, even with the deficiency I'm battling.

I'm torn between just keeping the 2 Blue Cheese plants and training them to shape or keeping all three and having to shuffle them around to defoliate and train effectively. I'd rather cull the critical sooner rather than later before much more labor has gone into it and will make a decision today. I do plan on topping by day 18 or so if the growth stays constant.

As I said before I'll be adding more light as well which should happen in the next week or so and will allow for better penetration out to the edges of the tent. When I start the new light I can run my exhaust fan as well which will lower the RH for later veg and flowering.

On another note when I open the tent now I'm finally getting that light dank smell that I missed so much, hopefully that's a sign of good things to come!

Update #8

Hey all, sorry its been so long since my last update, life has been crazy. Everything is going good in the tent. I added an HLG 100 watt LED so am running about 195w now. I seem to be on top of that calcium deficiency I was dealing with as well.

Plant 1 is 36 days now and was topped on day 18. It stalled a bit after the top, but bushed out and is now stretching nicely.

Plant 2 (day 35) was topped on day 18 as well and didn't miss a beat with all the new branches stretching immediately. This blue cheese basically has a light to itself and is about a foot from the lights so I will probably supercrop the tallest branches tomorrow.

Plant 3 the critical auto is at 29 days and is as tall as plant 1. I topped this plant at day 15 or so and it bushed up well, now stretching and getting ready to flower.

My plan tomorrow is to defoliate again like I did last week and to lift plants 1 and 3 as well as supercrop plant 2. Hopefully all this will keep the canopy pretty even.

Here are some pictures from the past few weeks, I'll get some current ones tomorrow after all the training.

All the best,
G

Hey all, just a quick update. I got the light moved up, but plant 2 was just growing so fast I decided to supercrop the 8 main colas when I pulled the plants out for what is turning into the weekly defoliation.

It was pretty scary, but I went deep anyway. I figure she's either gonna go downhill or the branches will work their way back up as an awesome canopy, either way, the tent canopy is better now and the light spread is great.

Picture immediately post supercrop.

Looking good! I got back into it about 15-16 months ago. Getting ready to start my 4th auto grow. It's addicting, lol.

That's awesome! It's definitely addicting, I'm already planning the next steps!

I also wanted to share after the supercropping picture yesterday, here is the tent 24 hours later. Not out of the woods yet, but she seems to have survived with a load od bud sites!

All the best,
G
