Mephisto Genetics Autotron does Mephisto Sour Crack & Sour Hound - Kindsoil, 200-1000W MH/HPS

Took down the Sour Hound today at 86 days old. I still didn't see any amber on it, but I figured there was no point in letting it go longer. It had pulled everything from the fan leaves already, as you can see in the pic and had stayed pretty much steady for the past few weeks. I saw some nice autumnal reds and oranges in the remaining leaves and didn't want it to spread to the buds. I included some pics of the trichomes for folks to look at and see what I'm talking about. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I can never seem to get my plants to amber out, no matter how long I leave them.

On a good note, the buds from this Sour Hound looked and smelled great after trimming them. This plant has the best structure and size of any plant I've grown before. I see at least 3-4 ounces in total off of it after it's done drying, I think. There was a lot of micro-surgery involved as I strived to get all of the dried out and shriveled fan leaves out from the base with the tips of my scissors. I can definitely smell the ChemDawg influence in it. There is a distinct kind of rubbery plastic pungent odor to it mixed with the smell of the Sour Crack that I recognized from my last one. Can't wait to try it out in a few weeks after it's done drying and curing. I'll definitely be putting up a smoke report for each of these.

In other news, my Sour Crack has finished it's slow drying and is in the jar for the cure. Total weight came out to ~22 grams of nice looking bud at 64% RH. I think it would have been closer to 30 grams if I hadn't lost the main cola to bud rot.

My second Sour Crack is looking lovely indeed. I took everyone out of the tent today to do an inspection and a bit of rearranging so everyone is benefiting from the light as much as possible. The patio stones I'm using to elevate the short ones are working great. It keeps everyone right at the same height, in the sweet spot of my 400w HPS and I can adjust as needed as the plants get taller.

Here's some shots of the trichomes from my second Sour Crack. She's 77 days old today. The trichomes are looking very milky and cloudy for the most part, but as expected I don't see any amber ones yet. This one will come down in the next 5-7 days regardless of where she's at. I think she'd be fine if I took her down today, but I'm going to give her a little bit longer to hopefully ripen a little more. I also need to wait until the Sour Hound is finished drying so that I have some space to hang the bags of trimmed bud from the top of my tent.

Toking on a cheeky vape of my first Sour Crack that just started curing...
It already tastes great at this point, so I'm stoked to see how good it tastes and smells after a month or two of curing!

The Sour Hound has been drying in bags for three days so far and should be ready for an initial jarring tomorrow. I saved all the smallest and larfiest buds from it separately to try a little experiment in cob curing, a very different and unique traditional African way to cure buds. Supposedly kicks up flavor, smell and potency to another level through anaerobic curing. Follow it here if you're interested: https://www.autoflower.org/threads/cob-curing.57489/

The Sour Hound is already smelling and tasting wonderful at about a week and a half in the jars. I have a couple jars of really primo tops and one of midsized buds. The smallest buds I used to make a Malawi cob, which is coming along nicely. You can see the link for it in my previous post, I have pics of it there. The smell of the Sour Hound is lovely and dank. Very strong tones of diesel and pungent hops. Kind of like an herbaceous IPA. Total yield for this came to 115 grams, which is incredible for a plant of this size. Just awesome structure to it.

I took down the second Sour Crack tonight too at 91 days, which seems like it must be some sort of record for this strain. I still wasn't seeing any amber, but pretty much all the trichomes were very cloudy, so it was time to take it down before any bud rot set in. It was a good thing too because I found some early bud rot right in the middle of the main cola as I was trimming, the exact same spot it hit my other one. Luckily there was very little that I needed to toss out. The buds are fat, dense and insanely dank. I think the final result is going to be top notch. We'll see in 3-5 days when they're ready to come out of the bags.

The last Mephisto I have going is the Sour Livers which is yellowing quickly. It's 90 days old, but still looks like it needs time as there are some white pistils. It may turn out that I need to just pull it a little early. I may give this strain another run in the hope that it will flourish more than this one.

After the Sour Livers is down, I'm going to consider this journal closed out and open a new one in the Indoor Grow Journals thread, as it seems like I'm not getting much interest here in the Mephisto subforum.

Sour Livers came down today at 100 days old. There were quite a few colas, but they were all thinner tall spears. There was an absolute ton of small larfy buds. I'd guesstimate that 2/3 - 3/4 of the plant was popcorn bud or close to it. Still, I estimate that the total yield will end up somewhere around 3 zips. Definitely looking lower in the bag appeal category. The smell was not very pungent at all either. Not nearly as loud as the Sour Cracks or Sour Hound. Let's see how it turns out after a week or two of curing though.

I had quite high expectations for this strain as far as smell, so I hope it's not a let down. It may have not turned out to be as good as it could be because of some of the issues I had throughout the grow. I'm very strongly considering dropping another one of these to try and get it to match up to the description on the Mephisto website.

I'll be back later with an update on the second Sour Crack and once I get this one into the jars.

Just out of curiosity is that as close up of picture as you can get on those trichs?

Yeah man, I have one of those little microscopes you can hook up to your computer, a Carson Zorb. No optical zoom on it, I don't think. You can just zoom further into an image(digital zoom).

If that is as close as you can see then you really can’t see the trich heads. I think you probably have lots of amber heads that you just can’t see. I haven’t seen any meph plant go that long without lots of amber
