Indoor automaria2 and speed devil grow journal :)

day 36, 25, & 10

been a while since an actual plant update.
So, hows about it kids?

no real changes in the plants themselves, other than AM2 starting to bud up quite nicely.

I did, though, alter a few things with the grow in general though.
Switched out the MH bulb for the HPS put all of the blue CFL back in the ballast.
Moved AM2 and AA to under the HPS and moved FB under the CFL. I decided it's better to flower with more penetrating lights. They'll grow just fine under CFL - we grew a 3.5 tall, root bound as fuck plant under the same amount CFL last time, so I figured that was the better option.

Also started ....some kind of LST...I think.... lol.
I started to get paranoid because AM2 was so short and, like I said before - I was honestly worried about not getting much more than a few grams off her, so I started to look into LST.
And because its what I always do (gaaaaaaah i need to learn self control, lol), after reading only a few articles/tutorials and watching a video I decided, for some reason, that I knew enough to go ahead and start tyin' 'em down.
Dont get it twisted - nothing bad has happened...yet..knock on wood - lol- but by the 2nd day, i was starting to realize I really wasnt sure if I was doing it right, but she had a nice even canopy and as far as I know, thats the main goal here lol.
Then I read a post from Waira about how LST is a learned skill, and that just reassured my thought that I was more than likely doing it wrong lol. He did however, recommend that I look up Bromeo as he's apparently a whiz with the tie down method. So that is next on my list of things I want to accomplish today lol
When I went up last night, her even canopy was no longer even. I fed and watered the girls, and that was it.
And thats where we are today, lol. I really need to get this figured out before I do anything terribly horribly wrong lol.
I also feel like I need to tie down the side branches? IDFK lol

oh look. its an update :)

Girls are doing splendidly...and I will post pictures (from last night) at the end of my high rant :)

Sooo...Im sure theres a feeding schedule/guide out there somewhere....actually, im almost positive of it, but Im high and dont feel like digging around "Bailers Booya"

So heres the thing, haha. I know that autos typically take longer than the advertised time.
So let's start counting from the first day I saw the first pistils, and pretend/assume the advertised time is actually the flowering time.
That puts AM2 22 days in flower, pistils on day 19 = 41 days of life and AA 6 days into flower, pistils on day 18= 24 days of life, no? (Waira- is my math right? lol c'mon now, you know math isn't my forte, you gotta look out for the cook out! hahahahaha)
The advertised times are: AA- approx 75 days indoors and 80 days outdoors from germination and AM2 - from seed to harvest approx 60 days.

NOW.
With that being said, lol
wtf paradise. How about a little consistency/clarity with our verbal skills, eh? lol I might not be able to count, but - it aint lyke i aint got me no english skeels :roflcry:
First off. Why can we not just say "from the time you put it in the ground with a little white tail sticking out of it" (ok maybe it can be a LITTLE more PC than that lol) or "from the second you take it outta the package to start the process".
Why all the need for the "from seed" and "from germination" pizzazz.....whaaa? pizzazz has FOUR z's?! that'd be a killer scrabble word. (go 'head...challenge me, i dare you :firedevil:) I mean...its all lies anyhow, I understand lol its just irritating. And I know that my leaves will tell me when she's done...I read Muddys thread too, lol  But as far as the final 'cleansing' to take place, when does that start? (ooohhhh noowwwww you get the feeding chart reference at the beginning of all this nonsense lol)

Shut up, Im high and ranting/babbling about things that essentially make no difference as its all BUH-LAWG-NUH anyways!!! :smoke:

So yes. The girls are doing lovely. FB is definitely a fighter, for sure.
20140323_205245.jpg - I loaded all the tops of the plants with perlite as I read that it can/will suffocate fungus gnat larvae. They started migrating from plant to plant and I was getting pissed lol So I just said fuck it and dumped perlite on the top of the soil. Haven't seen anything since.

I think i'm going to do an eeeeensie teensie bit of LST on AA. The only thing I did on AM2 is pull the top cola down for a couple days and then stopped realizing I didnt know what I was doing. And, IMHO, I think she looks great. She's got a relatively even canopy and I KNOW that if I hadn't tied her top over, those side branches wouldnt be producing near/getting as much light as what they are. So I mean...Im happy with her. So far it's only proved beneficial so why not do the same to AA?
20140323_205848.jpg20140323_205528.jpg20140323_205323.jpg20140323_205347.jpg

Also - hey Waira...WAIRA WAKE UP :poke: lol- you told me in an earlier post to go higher in P around mid-bloom. Sooo....with all of the debate on how long it does or does not take an auto to finish - with the given stats on her age - what're we calling mid-bloom?? more easily put - when do I need to significantly up that P level? Cause, I mean...Id rather not wait for a deficiency to start feeding the higher P.

AA is looking lovely too. Cant forget about her. Poppin' pistils like her name is Pete. :roflcry: OK. its settled. Her name is pete from here on out  *sigh* its the little things, it really is lol

:hug:Hi there! Sorry I'm late,...again!
paranoid.gif
How ya been Mz.W? I see 2 pages of monologue plus a little with Bot's (try and keep him around GF, he's actually been here off and on from the beginning,... chock-full of good stuff!),... you, need to make more friends here!...get you-self a posse,... (snicker *snort*).... :smoke: Okay, business first, but later I'll have some excellent links to info about definitive potency (something alarmingly few people have a proper understanding of), terpenes, and their interactions,... very good and interesting stuff, educational even! You'll be like the baked Luminosity chick!
smoke.gif
:crying:

>>> Ah! well done with the lights GF... HPS has the right spectrum for the job now,... CFL can cover the rest for now,... there are nice, fairly inexpensive dual-spec CFL's around, and compatible reflectors depending on the size/wattage,... I like them for their cooler running temps,... *** we talked already about expected harvest times,...

>> LST! It a little late for AM2, unless you want to pull some lower branches out from blocked light/space,... Big picture behind LST is to bend and shape the plant in a way that allows the lower branches to grow larger and fuller, like cola tops in a way; the physical act of bending releases hormones that stimulate the plant to develop those lower internodal branches and buds more extensively than if they were left as they would grow normally,... it's sort of like fast motion bonsai training,... forget the "even canopy" thing, that's not the goal; you have to work with the main stem when it's still flexible, during lead growth, before the stem hardens with support tissues... and past a certain point in development, it's not worth the risk or gain,... I'll dig up a pic of the light duty job I did on one late season plant I had,...it was worth it, but I started tweaking her before flowering, and left her be after several rounds of adjustments... To get the big dog results takes lots of practice, and some plant losses as well, no doubt! *** did you try Bromeo? he's been rather busy offsite, so he may have spaced getting back to you!
>> feed schedules are a good reference, but they assume plants of some size, consuming at a certain rate,.. we talked plenty about ramping up slowly the fert' concentrations, and the variables that must be accounted for when deciding just how much and often,... right now, for AM2, she should be rolling with bloom ferts only; what are the N-P-K numbers of the fert. you're using, what strength, and how often? *** AA just sexed, ay? She still needs to get veg' nutes for another week or so, then make a 1/2 and 1/2 blend of your veg/bloom nutes for a couple feeds, then onto straight bloom ferts,... keep pulling her lead down and shaping her, if you like! It's a daily, or more, process, a little at a time,... you got the idea though! Mid-bloom is about 2 -3 weeks in,... total flowering time can be about 4-6 weeks, depending on strain and how much you like your bud ambered,...(note that not all auto's amber-up very well)... All of them should be getting some molasses, about 1T/gal... great stuff, Ca, Mg, K in there, and the sugars make the soil herd and plant happy! Well talk about soil cleansing and final prep' for harvest later, okay?
Now for the rest! Yes, you type and ramble lots, but in a very good and funny way Mz. W! looking at the previous two post with Bot's, I think the links Im loading up here will answer you questions about potency, terpenes, effects, counter effects (CBD and other terp's), solid definitions of things, and the unique synergy between all these things,... to top it off, you have your own personal variations on efficacies, just like everybody else; think pain/inflamation meds, or allergy meds, and how variably they effect you vs. other people....
terpenes--> https://www.autoflower.org/f41/terpenes-28846.html
potency-->https://www.autoflower.org/f41/potency-widely-misunderstood-concept-20600.html
more terpenes--> https://www.autoflower.org/f74/why-your-weed-smells-terpenoids-22500.html

https://www.autoflower.org/f2/talking-terpenes-30933.html

.... good stuff! enjoy

Update day 47, 36, and 20

27 days in flower for AM2, 11 for Pete aka AA, and roughly, day 4 for FB.

I woke up in a sort of panic because I had a dream about FB lol.
I was starting to LST her and when I was tying her top down her mainstem like...dissapated, and the next thing I knew she was in my hand and all I remember is replanting her; she was very sad and limp, and the stem that was left resembled a snowy tv screen..but a purpley red.
It was very odd. haha.
So the second I woke up I went to check on them lol I didnt even wait until I had my coffee (and anyone who knows me knows that I dont do ANYTHING before Ive had my coffee lol). Its probably a good thing I did though.
Spring is rapidly approaching here, and that means a warmer outside. And a warmer outside means its that much harder to keep the closet cool. So yesterday afternoon Id opened the window cause it was about 81 in the...garden, if you will ;) I went to close it around 9pm last night, but it it was warm outside and raining. The weather did awesome things for the humidity in there, took it up to 40% from its usual 25%. But the garden temp was 78 and I knew if I closed the window now, theyd be dying by 1130 so I left it open....and then naturally forgot to close it before bed lol. So the girls were relatively cold this morning, it was 67...which I suppose isnt AWFUL...definitely could've been worse. So I closed the window and as of an hour ago they were sitting at a comfortable 77 and will be asleep in a half hour :)

Luckily the FB mishap was only a dream and is doing well haha. Though I believe I see a bit of nute burn on her lowest leaf set. I havent fed her at all, with the exception of the time when she was brand new and I was high, feeding my other plants lol. So it could either be repercussion of that, or could've gotten water on her at some point and not noticed, could be because for the majority of her life her lower leaves were touching the soil. Havent checked her PH yet so it could be that. I think she's going to be a stinky one too. FB also has some diesel in her.
20140329_121525.jpg20140329_121531.jpg

Pete is getting big. Im excited for her...something I find odd though is her pistils seem rather....stringy. Im no experienced grower so its likely that its normal and the longer she flowers she'll beef up. She keeps making me think of a starving kid lol. Like shes fat kid at heart but doesnt have any cake so she cant be lol...Whatchufink??
20140329_122732.jpg20140329_122728.jpg20140329_122714.jpg20140329_121520.jpg

AM2 is so freaking pretty lol. I told you, when they really start to bud WDWA is instantly infatuated lol. And Im disgustingly impressed with the camera on this galaxy S4 btw. I had an iphone 4 on the last grow and the camera was alright but not great. Then I got the s3 which I usually take my pictures with and I was way impressed with it compared to my iphone. Then I used my boyfriends s4 and holy awesomeness from a camera phone batman! lol

-RE: Waira-

Waira! You live! lol I do need me a posse. Cant rely on you and andy ALLLL the time, right? ;) Im just not active enough on here to get anyone to join me and my unequivocal wit :roflcry: Plus my posts are too long to interest anyone haha.

Lights - Im thinking that if we dont figure out how to manage heat in there, and quick then we'll only be able to grow during the winter/cooler months. Which is absurd to think about because it is and gets MUCH hotter in other areas of the globe and people grow indoors just fine. So I contemplated the thought of just going back to all CFL (at least when it gets warmer). Its not that I dont WANT to. Im not the one whose about to knock your lights out (no pun...ok maybe a little one lol) over whether or not CFLs grow nice plants, its just not the most convenient given the size of the room vs the amount of plants vs the number of bulbs sockets extension cords and outlets there are....and still avoid an utter fire hazard lol.
Its not like we dont have more space though. This place is full of closets.

With the LST...yeah thats basically what Im doing (pulling out the lower branches). at the very start of this whole...LST attempt, I did take the top cola and wrap a string around it, pulled it down a little bit, then duct taped it
and repeated that for 2 or 3 days before I stopped.
This was her 4 days before- 20140314_195218.jpg
This was her when i stopped - 20140318_112431.jpg
This is her now - 20140329_122449.jpg
So not textbook LST but still not a bad end result right?

I do indeed have AM2 on bloom ferts only. The NPK of the GH Flora Bloom is 0-5-4 and the MG quick start is 4-12-4. Im feeding every other water, maybe every third depending on how they look- and im mixing at 1/2 strength flora and 1/4 strength of the MG (that is, 1/4 strength of the 2 tsp it says to use on the dirt guide im following w/ her) both per gallon of water- ph'd after adding nutes to somewhere in the range of 6.2-6.5..hard to get an exact number when you dont have a fancy schmancy meter ;)
I did look him (Bromeo) up and floated around his journals but I didn't find any kind of exact guide/tutorial but i didnt PM him or anything.
GOSH! what do you think I am? Some normal person who messages others with questions about their expertise? PSH. Im an AFN stalker ;)

I did check out those links you'd sent but Im high right now so all I have to say about THAT right now, lol, is - yes. very informative..and educational even! hahahaha

update shhhhhhhh-mupdate

AM2- 33 days in flower
AA - 17
FB - 10

HOKAY. SO.

Allow me to start by saying, damn thems some pretty plants :smoke:
AM2 is the oldest, as we all know. Giving her 51 days of life thus far.

I know autos take longer than advertised.
Advertised time is approx. 60 days.

A good amount of her pistils are either 100% orange/rust colored and withering, just starting to turn or are still white.

Ive also read Muddy's thread about leaves telling when the plant is done.
I've got one completely yellow lower fan and a few others turning. Is this user error or is she saying give me a week and then start then cleansing process?

Man shes freakin pretty lol
20140404_111804.jpg20140404_111745.jpg20140404_111643.jpg20140404_111627.jpg20140404_113046.jpg20140404_112313.jpg20140402_102213.jpg20140402_102201.jpg20140402_102219.jpg20140402_102428.jpg
20140402_102242.jpg20140404_111619.jpgthe all yellow fan leaf is hiding there in the middle at the bottom...
opinions?

AA looks like she might be filling in a little bit...fingers crossed. She's definitely bigger though..

FB - still a beebee by comparison

20140404_112010.jpg20140404_112332.jpg

It must be ladies night ;P

Looking good, W! I'd say you've got a good couple of weeks before flushing AM2. The most reliable way to determine harvest other than the yellowing of the fans is to check the trichs with a scope. Looking for the cloudy and amber ones will get you where you want to be. No need to spend a ton of cash, either. I have this one and it works fine if you have a steady hand:

http://www.amazon.com/Carson-MicroM...qid=1396635225&sr=8-1&keywords=handheld+scope

Keep up the good work!

really??
I heard going by trics with autos is UNreliable since most, dont amber.

I 110% do NOT have a steady hand lol
I actually bought that exact scope on the last grow but I wasnt a fan...but for no other reason than it was more of a table top microscope than a hover over your plants and pray to god you dont fall on them microscope lol. So I bought this (http://www.amazon.com/SE-Loupe-Set-...8&qid=1396636420&sr=8-1&keywords=10-30x+loupe) loop set to use instead and it was MUCH easier to look at stuff..though getting a good gauge on the color was hard. I reckon more magnification would help with that, but could also just be that Im a noob and was mistaking clear trics for cloudy. *shrugs*

Thank you!
:Sharing One:

AM2 - 42 days of flower
Pete (aka AA)- 26 days of flower
FB- 16 days of flower

Girls are doing well...(for the most part.)

All 3 are now on one side under the HPS with some red CFL side lighting. Also took my old sun visor/reflector thing and tumb tacked it to the walls and up and around the lights. They aren't completely closed in so they still have access to fresh air flow. Stopped running the humidifier and have had the window open on and off for probably a week now with the RH between 32-37%. Temps did go up to 82 briefly when the window was closed too long and hasnt gone over 80 since. Still relatively warm though and will only get worse as the weather keeps getting nicer.
SO.
There has recently been discussion of finally attaching an actual exhaust FAN to the current exhaust set up he's got going now - dont ask me to explain it cause I cant, i just know it works but needs to be better lol
Im wondering now, though , if we couldnt just get a clip on desk fan (or rig one if such a thing doesnt exist lol) and clip it to the clothes bar (that the HPS is hanging from), blow it over the ballast adding gentle airflow to the canopy tops and at the same time cooling the heat coming off the HPS, hot air rises over the top of the sun visor, and exits via the exhaust fan that we'll add.
...........good theory? lol

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming - lol

Remember when I thought that Pete was my stinkiest plant?
Lies. All of it.
lol FB is definitely taking the cake here.
Im tellin' ya, that diesel inheritance (in FB and AA) is making for some magnificently stinky plants :))
She (FB) is starting to make the cutest little pistil crowns<3 OK SO IM A NERD, WHATS YOUR POINT?!? haha and I clearly over watered her at some point =/
20140413_121953.jpg20140413_121946.jpg

I do have to +1 Paradise Seeds, though, for the first truth in their advertised statement of "...... a coating of resin glands make a mature plant of Automaria glisten as if dusted with fine diamonds" because she really does, look like I accidentally sneezed into a bowl of sugar....on top of her lol. very frosty indeed.
20140413_122628.jpg20140413_122156.jpg20140413_122206.jpg20140413_122233.jpg20140413_122342.jpg20140413_122410.jpg20140413_122431.jpg

Pete is turning crazy yellow...and not because she's close to finishing...by any means..so what do we think??

Hi there Mz W' ....been lost in a time warp,.. is it Easter al-freakin'-ready?! LOL! ...**** ...Anyway,...I like what I see! AM2 is definitely a happy girl, loaded with trich's- :pimp: yaaa- boiii!! -still nice and green, so lets see what a couple weeks brings,... expect to start seeing yellowing on the lower fans soon! You can up the MG conc. if you like, to half conc.,... I saw that the Flora has zero N in it! not good, and it's starting to show in the AA; those yellow leaves are N defc. all the way,... N is needed all the time, and the bulk the plants put on at this stage makes for fairly high demand, it just doesn't get top billing during bloom that P and K do,... I still highly suggest getting Grow-More brand Sea grow All purpose (16-16-16) and Bloom (4-24-24); these are quality nutes, and are under $10 each for a tub that will last you for years, at the rate you use it! Molasses (Brer Rabbit is best) is something you'll need for Ca-Mg demands, plus it has some K in it too! The soil herd loves it, and in turn so will the girls....:coffee2: 1T/gal soil drench...I use it weekly all the way to final cleansing,... *** AA has some nice cola action going! boy, does she have hairy legs or what?? :roflcry: -classic Humboldt Hunnie!! *** Wow, FB went Sumo-squat on ya! She looks great as well, and has come a long way from her troubled youth, ay?! LOL.... **** Yes, try that fan rigging out, both! Anything to bleed the heat up and away; RH is getting borderline now, so begins the frustrating battle between light distance/intensity, heat, and RH! Don't know what kinda spare room you have in there, but a low, wide bowl of water can help, or better yet a small towel soaked and hung to dry will up the RH some,... *** Got some stinkers, do ya? :brow: If security is no issue, I rather like it- LOL! ...........Okay, dinner time! just a quick check up here for now, but you got good stuff going GF!! well done, really- :pighug: .... get those new fert's, and well talk about feeding regimes with them! Ciao!
