New Grower Auto Berry Feminized first auto indoor grow for an old gardner...

Moving right along...

I tested my water and soil today. Both were spot on with a PH of 6.5. I did a moisture test and the soil was 'wet' 2/3 of the way down into the depth of the soil so I really don't want to do much more repair wise for these little ladies until their soil is dryer. I am aiming for late tomorrow night or early the next day. Then they'll get another dose of CaMg along with nutes, etc..

So far they don't seem to be doing any worse and just about all of them are getting taller, branching and flowering at day 34 of this grow.

Crossa yo fingas!

Looking good, you can always give the cal/mag as a foliar until the soil dries out more. Keep at it!

Some rambling, CaMg def update, reference material

Real fast, here are two real good references in Wikipedia about Calcium and Magnesium deficiency in plants. It's kinda nice to understand just how this happens, what to expect from treatment and what damage will never go away even though things are OK now. These two links address all of them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium_deficiency_(plant_disorder)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium_deficiency_(plants)

That being said, check out this before (day of diagnosis) and after (just now). Same lights, same plant...

After reading the reference material, I've come to realize that although the calcium deficiency (symptom - brown spots) is being addressed too, those nasty brown spots will never go away... I guess that the evidence of magnesium uptake alone should be the Bellweather in this case. I believe as well, that I should expect that the oldest leaves will never fully recover.
But what a friggin' difference! It's not just the pot this time :smokeit:

Now a little rant. What's been bugging me all this time is how different 'organic' indoor gardening is on a micro scale. All of those broad brush tactics I'm used to using outdoors will never work in this case. Actually, just micro growing in general requires a basic skill that I've never honed. Especially with such a FAST growing plant that seems to do everything fast. Like depleting its resources. Now I'm beginning to get it regarding why these regimens are so friggin' important. Light dawns on Marblehead...
"Paleo"
One last thing. When rushing to treat these by making a spray solution, it was kind of hard to find a concise statement from anywhere about how to mix it. Thanks to oldster for explaining the importance of 'leaf wetting' when spraying cannibis and many other plants as well. I used a mix of General Organics CaMg+ (5ml) and water (1gal). In hindsight, I would have gone lighter had I found a thread on another site where the manufacturer when pressed by a customer recommended 2.5ml instead. Given their broad range of root application protocols, I don't think 5ml/gal for a first hit at the problem was pushing it too much. I did a second application and will cut the solution in half from now on.

Here is a great reference about foliar feeding of plants in general. BTW I used Dawn. Works like a charm.

And now a rambling video... Big Daddy showers the ladies with his Magic CaMg'ee curing juice.:pimp:

A pretty cool development... Getting back on track... Pics and Vlog...

So the gals are all looking like they are headed in the right direction. Some better than others. One of them, Chica, the last one to emerge from the ground so many days ago, is about twice as green and looking bushier than all the rest. I'll explain later why that one plant may be doing so much better.

I tested a few things prior to applying the foliar solution I mixed up to wet the leaves (top and under sides). PH in the snow water was 7.0 before additives and full of minerals (hard). After additives 6.5. So I sprayed the leaves and decided to take my testing a little further because I'm waiting for the soil to dry out a bit prior to my next soil/root feed.

The bottom 1/3 of every pot is still WET! I hate these plastic bag pot things I used. I think I might cut out a section on the side of each bag and duck-tape a piece of cheese-cloth over it so the bottom of the friggin' pot can BREATHE and dry out. It's like the roots are sitting there about 2/3 way down and saying "f*ck this, it's too wet down there, we're not going any further" I could feel it when I put in the probes. Soooo glad I got fabric pots for my new project.

Finally I probe tested the soil PH. Between 6.8 and 7.1 depending on the plant. With one exception, Chica! Her soil tested at 6.5 where the root ball is growing and 6.2 towards the bottom. At this point I felt I had to apply some solution to the soil to try to move the rest of Chica's sisters in her direction. So I adjusted the PH in the solution I'd made till it was about 6.2 and lightly watered the soil on each of the affected plants. I'll test these again in the morning to see if I've done any good. I'm glad I noticed this. If I can get this worked out, I think we're cooking again.

Pics and Vlog (turning off leds for photos)

GREEN Chica next to her one of her pale sisters, Madge... What a f*cking difference! PH of the soil is thus far the only thing I could test that was different. WTF? Working to iron this out as we speak...

Looks like you are really getting things dialed in with the grow. Iron is less available at the higher pH so I think that is probably the difference you are seeing, manganese same situation. You probably should up the amount of perlite in your soil mix next time around to help the bottom dry out a little faster. Looking good.

Yes Olds, dialed in is a very good word. These pots are plastic bags and I really have to get the bottoms off the floor. Blizzard outside so I'll have to improvise something to get them an inch or so off the floor. I'll do this in a little bit after breakfast is over.

One thing is for sure. Cabin fever for this dude isn't an issue.

Nothing like a Blue Dream spliff to get me going... Did some moving in the room...

It all started with me deciding to get the ladies off the floor of my original grow tent... Being stuck inside during this blizzard I had to improvise a way to lift the pots up enough to get air circulation all around. Well I found some awesome stands in the kitchen cabinets, so I re-arranged a couple, stole the stands and away I went.

I decided to set up the stands in the new tent which is MUCH more easier to work with, moving the Berry's and Mango, Can filter, fans, humidifier and LEDs. So for now I have everything in the new tent.

I'm going to re-do the old one to make it more user friendly and cleaner, employing a drain to waste type set-up, providing easier access to the plants, better air-flow overall and keeping the run-off from festering on the floor. I was gettin' kinda nervous about that crap on the floor.

Real happy with the result. As soon as I can I'm going to the hardware store and getting stuff to rig drain pans and a run-off container under the racks. It would also make it real easy for me to try other growing mediums, flush pots, etc... I'm on this one as soon as I dig myself out of the house. Still wicked windy outside so maybe tomorrow for that detail.

Once I had finished I fiddled with the girls a bit as they are much easier to mess with now. I started LST'ing a couple. Ella, the Mango was begging for it.

So the Berry's and Mango are out of the woods. In a couple of days they will get a full nute'ing according to my new schedule which I published in my other thread...

https://www.autoflower.org/f139/rhyce-saroni-grows-1-lemon-haze-2-white-lsds-40539-2.html#post779149

You'll notice four fabric pots on the floor. Last night after firing up a doobie I got a hair across my ass and decided to give Dot (Lemon Haze that wouldn't shed her shell) a run for her money and I dropped a nice fat Bubble Gum bean right in the ground next to her. May the best girl win! Then I got real creative and decided that I'd press my fourth fabric pot into service and started another Bubble Gum by dropping a second fat bean into the dirt. These 2 beans were big and fat and looked nice and fresh so I chose them especially for ground starting. These Berry's better finish on time or it's gonna get crowded in here!

Vlog... I'm thinking that I may just need to do a continuous grow thread because it's kind of what this is turning into. We'll see.

I was reading through the Bam slam official thread last night just before I was about to go give my girls a Co2 treatment when I came across a great post by faded187 describing a misting treatment for when you get Mg def yellowing... It had been a day or so since my last treatment so I tried it out. It was the BOMB! Worked like a charm. The ladies loved it and basked in the light of the T5s for a few hours prior to going back to the tanning parlor.

Messing around with low stress-leaf tucking-pony tail stuff...

Messed around for a little bit in the garden. Had to get my mojo going before I trudged outside and cleared snow for hours. Tried out low stress methods of training the ladies to reach for the stars. Trimmed a couple of leaves that were just sucking along in favor of the bushy branches growing underneath. Don't worry nothing radical.

There are three that I'm messing with LST wise because they are the most branchy at this point, Roxanne (berry), Ella (mango) and Chica (my emerald green berry machine)...
