Indoor Anthro's Perpetual Grow Vol 2, Organic, LED, Autos, Fun!

Trichome inspection time, they have some ways to go but I like to check the trichs regularly when late in flower. Checking regularly for a couple years helps develop a better sense of how they ripen and age. Honestly though the trichome conditions matter less with autos and more with photoperiod plants. These being photoperiods, I'm checking them often.

The Barney's Farm Tangerine Dream is ripening well, many cloudy trichomes, still many clear, and a few random amber.

The Reserva Privada Skywalker Kush has a lot of ripening yet to do. Her trichomes haven't grown good stalks yet even. Mostly clear with a couple random cloudy.

Update on the couple photoperiods, they're finally winding down.

Skywalker Kush is fattening up well, trichomes matured a bit, about 35% pistils turned. Starting to eat its leaves, this time it's at the appropriate stage hah. Also leaning a bit but not enough to stake up.

Kinda hard to tell from the picture but she has quite a bit of flower on her.

The Tangerine Dream is well, it's going to be next to the finish line. Eating leaves up nicely, actually I think it's got a full blown deficiency but I'm not even going to bother with it being this close to chop. The fattening and pistils have plateaued so if it's still levelled off in a few days, then I'll do a trichome inspection and call it. This one leaned over enough to warrant being gently staked up. :p

The yield is hard to guess because, as you can see below, the buds are okay but the calyxes didn't fatten up. So it has more airy looking buds. Darn Mephisto spoiled me with their always fat calyxes lol!

HARVEST time: Barney's Farm brand Tangerine Dream photoperiod.

It had leveled off and stopped, I kept waiting for it the calyxes to fatten up but just aren't. The pistils turned, ate many leaves, and trichomes had gone cloudy with a dash of amber. So I took a good long look at it today and decided to call it, she wasn't going to make any more.

Trimmy trim trimmed :p

One more:

So that one is a wrap! Honestly not very impressed... But it's still only my second photoperiod, and she did have a slight pH collapse midway through. Still, tis a mystery how I can be great at autoflowers and so bad at photoperiods lol!

Anyway the smells while trimming were fantastic, light citrusy with like an herbal minty undertone. I didn't smell it much in the tent growing, but it was strong in trim! Very very sticky too, I actually had fingers and scissors getting stuck to the plant haha! Lots of sugar everywhere, and I left a good bit of sugar leaf on there as I usually do.

(this is totally personal preference, I don't mind some sugar leaf in the finished product, and with organics the leaf isn't all harsh and bitter. So for personal medicine this is fine. Obviously in another world, commercial, where buds need to look a certain way, you'd remove absolutely as much leaf as possible.)

Overall it grew okay and sure smells great, haven't quik sampled it yet but have a micro bud quik drying to taste test later. In more experienced hand with photos than mine, it might do much better and be a better investment. Other reviews had also reported lower yields, so maybe it'd be a good candidate for hydro if yields are important. There's probably about 0.3 oz on mine, so nothing to brag about lol, but it offered me some good experience with photoperiods.

All for now, peace and love.

The Skywalker Kush has one foot in the grave lol. Think it's somehow got a burn and deficiency going on, and it's been on just water to try and spur her on towards finishing. More pistils turning, leaning more, and picked up some bud mass. Just be done already lol!

Here's my fun side project, I just decided one day to try modifying the Hempy method with some solo cups.

20160606_133054.jpg

They're doing okay, more hungry than I'm used to. Feeding organically still, it's been tough to keep them fed with liquid organics, pH'ed to 5.8. The red cups are catching runoff, those custom cut bins are just holders so I can hang them out of the way when I get started in the KindSoil test.

Beans are: Stone Dragon, Blackberry Dragon, freebie Pink Grapefruit, and a Mephisto Fantasmo Express.

So yeah, it's a modified Hempy, organic, solo cup, hanging garden style lol. My whacky experiments...

Quick update on the science experiment babies in modified hempy cups.

Got the first heat victim of the summer lol, it's been getting up to 108°F (42° C) in there during the middle of the day. :( Due to my tent location, there's nothing I can do about that. They'll survive okay, just a little stressed.

I've pulled out all the CFLs but 1 just as a work light, pulled out the 2 old cheapo LED panels. Replaced it all with a new Mars reflector. It's really awesome thus far. It's far brighter than the 2x cheapo panels plus CFLs, yet cooler and uses less watts.

On: it's seriously bright af!

The heat injury victim, Seedsman brand freebie Pink Grapefruit (if it looks weird, it's because I purposely topped it to see how it reacts, and it's really throwing those branches out!):

Youngest baby, Mephisto freebie Fantasmo Express (I had tried a couple Dragons in there but didn't get liftoff on either so dropped the Mephisto in there):

The original Stone Dragon autoreg, no signs of either pistils or bananas yet:

A great cross, Blackberry Stone, @briman might like to see this! Also autoreg, no signs of sex yet either but should show soon.

Difficulties keeping them fed with liquid organics continues. I see why people prefer the chem nutes with hempy. All for now, peace and love.

That grapefruit is wacky I grew one out has like a oily Kush flavor low yield

I've grown the Pink Grapefruit out once before, it's an interesting plant. Halfway good finished bud too, yield was low but good smells and tastes of grapefruit!

Well the original Stone Dragon came up male:

IMG_20160611_095938.jpg

So it's been taken out of the tent. Didn't cull it though, I put it into the seedling chamber and topped it and bent it over. Going to see if it will go all the way to pollen and collect some.

The other autoreg, Blackberry Stone, came up female yay! That's the one I was really hoping to see flower! :d5: So there's 3 experimental modified hempy cup babies going to flower, the Blackberry Stone, the Fantasmo Express, and the Pink Grapefruit.

CHOP update, Skywalker Kush photoperiod... finally lol. Darn thing went somewhere between 155 and 160 days. It probably could've stilllll gone another two weeks, but I'd just had enough of it, and it was dying fast.

It still made crappy bud, after all that time and headaches. It looked like good bud live, but it's dried towards B grade or C grade... Just as crappy looking as my first half failed Skywalker Kush, just more of it this time lol. I don't know, this strain and I just do not get along well.

Last live pics: sad and half in the grave lol

Full blown multiple deficiencies by the end
20160616_180837.jpg

With small plants I like to trim them live and whole, and get a couple final pics without leaves to showcase the bud structure. Big plants like this, I cut off a branch at a time, trim that, and hang branches then the main cola. This one I even had to cut the cola in half lol. So we skip to the trimmed and cut branches:
20160617_090719.jpg

Metal clothes pins help with hanging big colas and small pesky branches.

When half dried well, I cut the buds from the sticks and into jars. Usually keep the top cola intact, as its bud always has slightly different properties than the rest of the plant. Couple days of mostly lid-off jar burping, and it's about down to 60% RH and ready for the slow burps and then long cure.

Honesty though this bud is below my personal medical standard. This is not laboratory grade flower that I'll accept for smoking or vaporizing, and so most of it will be going directly to cooked infusion of coconut oil for personal capsules, along with leaves and other B/C grade herb.

20160620_104834.jpg

20160620_104844.jpg

Looks almost pretty in the jar though. I'll probably long-cure the top cola and send the rest to oral capsules.
20160620_105020.jpg

End weight of flowers is 18.5 grams. That's a lot of time, work, and headache for 18 grams of mid grade herb. :/ Still, I learned some things!

Remember, failures are just opportunities in disguise!
