Lighting A-Train's DIY, Mars 1200 LED to COB !!!!!

Thanks for chiming in fellas... Ok here's the driver connection I was talking about....

Sorry the pics are sideways. But the top pic is of a driver that runs chips and a driver. There are 4 of these in the panel that run fans and livhts.

The bottom pic is of a driver that runs LED only.bsee the extra port with no output... I put a meter on it one of the outputs is a 1w volt DC for a fan the other is reading 111 volts DC so I'm sure I can run 2 COB in series off it...

So the heat sink is 5 x 15 and with the drivers setup the way they are I can run 4 COB, 2 fans and 2 drivers to ace I've what I want....

Anyone see any objections ?

Here are the cree chips I was looking at...

I have a 3x3 tent with 2 platinum p300 they're rectangukar. I was a setup like this

You guys think 4 of these cree will boost my power enough to make a difference

hell, you could probably run fanless as that 1200 was what, about 540 watts? and you will be running more efficient LEDs at 200watts. If you have acess to an infrared temperature device, check the junction temp and if its less than 40C you don't need a fan. You could also put a resistor inline with each fan to reduce the speed and make them quite.

I don't mind the fans little to no noise .. and since I'll already have the drivers up there for them might as well make sure things stay extra cool lol....

So about the chips.... I need yall reccomendation on chips. I want a bright ass white light to really blow up the tent in flowering. Hell it's only a 3x3 with the 2 platinums will cover it but the more the better when in flower. I want to mainly see what the extended spectrum will do. That's what the cob light folks say they have over pure led that and efficiency. So we'll see

I'm building with CXA 2530 COBs. The CXB 3070 is more powerful than the 2530 and slightly more efficient. However, you can get CXA 2530 chips for less than $10.00 each. I've seen them as low as $6.60 each! on a budget I went with the 2530's. You could run three from each driver. I'd go with 9 CXA 2530 at 25.2 watts each

Ahh so the fan hookups are probably from a dedicated line, that explains it. Was boggling my mind how they found fans that could handle 50+ volts lmao!

Yeah it all sounds good so far! The 3070s are probably the winners, but then again more $$$ right? I think either would make a nice difference in the tent.

Also, don't run a single COB from one, you'll put 55 volts to it. The driver adjusts voltage to the needs of the string, so with 35v+ cobs, you'll need a 2 minimum with this driver.

Hey hey hey brotha.

Doesn't it seem kinda odd that the driver lists such a wide range of VDC? I mean, 55-100vdc is a wide range lol. Then the amperage is marked over... But it appears to have said 0.7A. So if W=V x A, then each driver can handle 38 Watts - 70 Watts. The sticker also appears to say 60W. So who knows lol. If I were making an educated guess, I'd guess slightly conservatively and say it can do 50W.

I think it'd be safe to run 2 cob chips per driver. (The choice of cob chip might dictate whether to run the two chips in series or parallel?) For the fans, I think I'd put them all in series on their own driver maybe? Just bouncing some thoughts around. :d5:

While browsing the cob chips yesterday, came across this guy building diy setups. http://m.ebay.com/itm/222124260475
It's quite different from what you're doing but might provide a couple ideas. :pass:
