You need a white light cob (several choices out there), a heatsink (fan or passive), a driver (supplies electric to the cob), a cord to the driver and plug into the wall. Build yourself a fame to mount the heatsinks to. And wall la you have a beast of a light.
I did not mention that they all have to be the correct size so they work together (many choices here too).
For fun look at CobShop.net and see the AutoCob. I have 4 of them and love them.
Don't worry there are several folks here to guide you in your build if you so choose. Good Luck.
Yeah since I posted I found a good guide and have a little bit more of an idea, (still clueless) it's just the "buying correct parts that work with each other"
Part I'm worried about, id like to make my own version of one of the amare panels, COBS/LEDs combo, I'm thinking of buying a cheapo LED panel off eBay and using that for a frame and the actual LED bulbs can be placed around for some bonus lighting, I'll go and have a look at this link you've given me, see what I can teach myself today, thanks for the snappy reply @White Punk on Dope you might be hearing from me a little more as I dig deeper into the COB world

Just wondering if this is a good spot to ask about info on re-purposing a cheap china light...or is this just the thread for new builds?
Thanks and apologies in advance!

Sure is as good as any. If not we will get you in the right spot. Ask away but I probably won't be able to answer. I can summon some experts

lol Thanks a lot man !!! I asked over in the cobshop diy section, but I'm prolly way over my head on this...
I got a pair of weird drivers from an old blurple light I would like to get some use out of.
I was hoping I could throw a, or a couple, 3000k-3500k cobs of some nature on them;
but it seems tricky to pick cobs to match these cheap drivers specs.
Any and all advice would be welcomed guys and thanks !!!

Not sure but I dont think you will find cobs to run on that old of a driver. Give bigsm0 a chance to answer as well. The light specs have changed so much since I last tried building from an old light.

This HLG kit with Bluetooth controller is the best thing out right now.
