Hey Guys.

I'm running a GJ on another site, I only recently found out about this place so I'm going to move the journal over to here as well.

This should give some decent advice to people thinking about growing as it's my first largish grow, I jumped into it head first, and have been learning on my feet ever since.

The plants are 3, almost 4 weeks from seed now. I'm only 3 updates in so I guess it's still early days if you want to sit in.

Update: 25.09.11 (That's September for Americans)

Seeds just sprouted. Put into first pots. This update covers day 1 until week 1.5 (The CFL cycle)

Medium: Soil, cheap soil mixed in with a bunch of rich soil from a friends compost heap.
Pot Type: Plastic Party Cups / 2lt containers.
Lighting Type: 250w CFL
Light Schedule: 24 / 0
Nutrients: None.
Feeding: Plain tap water, once every 2 days.
Grow rooms smell: I wish.

Info: This is a ghetto setup consisting of 2 chairs and a broom handle It's just a makeshift veg area for the first week of growth.

Update: 08.10.11 - 12.10.11

Pot Type:Mix of 5 gallon pots (8 plants) / 5lt pots (7)
Lighting Type: 600w HPS
Light Schedule: 24 / 0
Nutrients: None.
Feeding: Plain tap water, once every 2 days.
Grow rooms smell: Slight smell of skunkyness.

Info: I lost a runt so now I'm down to 16. The rest are pretty healthy. A couple of them have rolled their leaves up because the fan was on too high. I've put it back farther from the plants and they're responding already. Aside from that, there were a couple of yellow spots on the babies which turned out to be bleaching where the water was left on the leaf. No more signs of that in the new growth, it looks very green and lush under natural light.

Update: 21.10.11

Pot type: As Above (So below!)
Lighting Type: 600w HPS
Light Schedule: 24 / 0
Nutrients: None.
Feeding: Plain tap water, once every 2 days.
Grow rooms smell: Honkey. Smells like Skunk, lemon and something hazey. Smells filled the grow room, the ajoining stairs and is working its way down. I've been trying some management solutions which I'll cover below.

Smells like a mixture of lemon, skunk and haze. Nice smell. I've been managing it with an oil burner and Orange essential oil. I didn't really think this would work, but it was mentioned to me by a friend in the know and I'm going to be trying out a number of solutions for odour control in this thread.

I left the oil burner in the bedroom outside of the bathroom. After an hour there was a minor improvement. After 1.5 hours I had my g/f (a non-smoker) go into the room, both her and I could only smell orange no weed smell, even in the grow room. The orange smell wasn't overpowering, it just covered the smell while it was burning. It's not a long term fix but I'll definitely be keeping some on hand for downstairs if I have company over. One of these downstairs should keep any wandering smells upstairs.

Next I'll be trying the infamous ONA bucket.

There's been a lot of growth during the last 3 weeks. The plants are roughly doubling in size every 4 days now. Sorry about the lack of updates my cameras been on the fritz. I have to say I'm very impressed with these autos, the main one with loads of growth looks like it's going to turn into a 2.5 - 3o plant easily. There's another couple of ones that also look like they may turn into monsters. I'm starting to lst them naturaly by bending the bigger fan leaves back. Next week I'll be posting pics of the plants after one week of that. I can see the bud sites already forming.

Jesus you were fast, I was only pasting the content in and you replied. Nice timing mate, things are just starting to explode now.

Thanks. It's great to find a place devoted to auto's. I hope to learn a lot from you guys.

Pot type: As Above
Lighting Type: 600w HPS
Light Schedule: 24 / 0
Nutrients: Advanced Nutrients (Bloom I think), Hammer Head. I've started them on a low dosage (1 tspn & .5 tbsp per 10lt).
Feeding: Plain tap water, once every 3 days. One feeding with nutes once every 2 days.
Grow rooms smell: Mellow. I'm at the calm before the storm state now. The girls are going into flowering and there's no smell. I know from experience however it will soon be here like hell fire. I've ordered my ONA I hope to have it this week.

Info: As well as starting them on light nutes, which they love, we've been pruning the shit out of them to allow the maximum amount of light penetrate to the new bud sites. A lot of people like to leave the leaf on, however most of the people I know who seriously grow always trim the shit out of them. They say it increases yield and I'm trying to get as much as I can get.

Also a lot of people think that pruning can impact yield with autos so lets call this an experiment. Last week we trimmed just after the last set of pics I uploaded, this week you can see the explosion of new growth and bud sites :) And so begins the best part of the grow! Flowering.
