What I got...
Hey all coco growers I am curious what everyone here uses for coco brand wise? Any brand to stay away from? I have only used botanicare and canna. I am having a hard time sourcing those right now for a reasonable price. Thanks in advance

I'm not too fussy and buy the Mother Earth Bales for the past couple years, then mix in my own perlite, etc. Works great for me. I generally try to avoid Amazon as much as possible, but an 11 lb bale is $12.40 shipped on there. Off the top of my head, a single bale when expanded will fill 5 or more 5 gallon pots. I've never purchased a premade mix so unfortunately I can be of no help there.

I've used Coco-Pearl before & I found it to be the cheapest, (I seen it on-line available in Michigan for $14 a bag). Right now I'm using Cultivation Nation by Fox Farm, but it's $29 a bag @ an area hydro shop! I've used some others also, just can't think of em right now :pass:

im another canna coco grower but i buy the 50 ltr bags pre-mixed with clay pebbles I've also used gold label and ecothrive brands

You can reuse your old coco if you still have it. Doesn't take very long and it's way easier then rinsing out a new brick

I've tried that before, but I really didn't have any guidance. I'd try to get as many of the old roots out and then I would flush with ph'd tap water, (100 ppms). After that I would hit it with 1 gram of Mega Crop, 5 ml of CalMag+, (both per gallon), and the recommended dosage of Sensizym to remove any roots left behind. I guess it did ok, but anytime my harvest wasn't up to my expectation I would wonder if it would have made more with new coco. I always keep some old around in case I can't find any new. Btw, I started using the blocks 6 yrs ago, but it was too hard on my old fingers to keep using it! :peace: :pass:

I also reuse my DIY coco mix. I personally don’t do anything TOO fancy. I just water the fuck out of it for about a week to a long runoff. I mean, I water it at least once a day to heavy runoff. For a week or so. Not a week straight :) . Get all the roots out. Throw it in a tote. Fill a new pot. Soak the old pots in a little water and vinegar for a day, hose them off, then toss in the washer. Dry in the sun.

I’m sure there’s better ways, but it works for me. After 3-4 grows I retire it outside and grow a pepper in it or something. Lasts years.

I dump em in a tub and remove the roots then fill up some clean containers and run hot water through them in the bathtub until the ppms are the same as the tap. Then buffer 24hrs and plant :pass:
