Indoor Zaaboot has gone to pot 2022 auto spree

Ok nice

I don't ever press anything really, I've always been more a flower guy :crying: Been pressing some with a colleague once, but not with the best results/yield, but back then he was also still learning the craft. I'm interested in it though, as I am with all things cannabis related.

So was just wondering what he could do to improve yields from pressing the buds, and to see if I can get some information before I get a Gaveda or something like that myself next year.

Do you btw know the brand/products? Any tips on what to look out for in a press?

what he could do to improve yields
I think the obvious ones I found were, the hotter you go the more that comes out but it gives a darker end product. For quality, lower heat gives a really nice golden Rosin. Then the bags, 120 or 90, 120 yields more but arguably has more contaminants (which you would need a microscope to see).

So it is really a mix and match for what you want as the end product - the better quality comes with lower yield, also I find that looking at the buds prior to pressing under a scope gives a good indicator, the more Trich heads per mm of plant makes a mammoth difference, it is deceiving looking with just your eyes.

For example, I grew the Critical Orange and GluberryOG autos, when looking at them with the naked eye they both looked coated in trichs but the Glueberry gave much more rosin albeit I thought the Orange was the stronger smoke, after looking with the scope i spotted the density of the Trichomes was the differentiating factor.

I researched for ages and ended up with the Devil press, it is a couple of years old now so things have moved on, for the same price you could get a fully automated one.
At the time of buying it suited my needs perfectly, a good easy entry level rig although it was pricey and still is... If was to buy another now I would probably go for the 'Rosineer' 4ton automatic one - it looks the bomb although overpriced

Day 17
Hello one and all - trust you are all keeping well and staying out of trouble!
On the 2nd day of Christmas my little ladies be 17 days old - overall they are moving along except for the Red CBD which is continuing playing the runt.

The Boomstick from @Sawney_bean is probably the healthiest looking lass in the tent but they are all a bit wonky - not 100% sure why or what, but this morning I changed the res, and yesterday I increased the humidity and upped the feed to a stable 1.2 along with lowering the PH again to 6. Temps are still very stable, and the colder it gets outside the better I think the inkbirds work together in the lung room and in the tent the graphs show the lung room being really erratic throughout the day and night hovering between 20 and 27, but within the tent the temps are sitting pretty at 24 lights off and I nudged it up to 26 lights on.

The res is now made up of grow A&B, a dash of calmag, and root tonic, I haven't added my regular monosilicic which I would have done by now, as I want the stalks to be a little more flexible for me as when I get on the silica early I notice when the time for super cropping or aggressive training comes I get more snaps, so until I do the first round or two of bondage I will keep the sikica at bay - I expect it is total bro science, but it is how they feel to me with or without.

Top left ---clockwise you have - Trichomes and Cream, Mimosa Punch, Boomstick, Sweet Red CBD

The Boomstick, currently the only one not overly effected by the droop they others have going on.

Overall, comfortable with their progress on the 17th day of their life, bar the Boomstick they are all relatively long flowering and looking at other diaries the two along the top will get large.

Anyway, after testing all the buds from the last crop to see who pressed the best we have a close match between the Dragon Fuel and the Purple Punch, but the Purple Punch came out trumps, I did not weigh what went in, but what went in was about the same, and what came out of the Punch was quite something.
Therefore the only sensible thing to do was to press some more, so I got through about 30g of buds and ended up with some lovely rosin (a dab over 7 grams)..what an great plant for pressing! Using the 120 bag at 204 for circa 3m30s.
Also I wanted to see which way is the better way to prepare the bags, the answer is plain and simple, do not do the flat rectangular - go for the cylinder shape - the results speak for themselves.

Two bags, roughly the same amount of weed, the rectangle was repressed in the mould, the cylinder was hand bodged.

Nice rosin but very little and you can see the amount stuck on the bag

The difference is stark!
Anyhow, with the spent pucks I put them in to a jar and when the jar is full I fill it with Ethanol for a quick wash and make RSO with it, it is probably the best oil - Just a very quick qwash in the Ethanol takes all the left behind rosin - works a charm.

- QUESTION - how many times do you press each puck, I see online people doing it more than once - is that normal? I do the once then in to the jar they go

A couple of other squishies from today

Time for a haircut
Hello everyone! Hope the start to your weekends has treated you well!

Today they all got a haircut, when they are this small it looks like there has been a massacre, but they had reached the 4th and the 5th was on its way so the heads came off the back two plants, and the rest just got a clean up and lower growth removed - the two at the fron tshoudl finish first so the aim is to train the two at the back to keep it under control.

Before and After

Now the hose pipe ban has been lifted I can use my hose again which makes life easier, although I was getting used to using pure RO, I think I am going to go back to a mix, but now with the bias being towards the majority being RO in any given res.

Anyway, they all seem fine, seem to be recovering fro what ever happened, I think it was a combination of to low RH and too much Nitrogen.
Basically, I used Canna start to get them going, after the first res was half done I topped up the res with regular grow nutes, the combination was perhaps a little high on N as both Canna and my grow nutes are heavy on N....lets see. After their haircut they all got a good soaking in Velokelp - I will take a look later today to see how they have fared.

Thats it for now - cheers for popping by

Day 20
Hello all - its cold here now which I dont mind, but it is will most certainly add to the leccy bill over winter.

So then, they had their first rel bit of abuse on Saturday, the T&C is really struggling, she has been for a while, but a they are all feeding of the same res there is not much more i can do other than ride it out and see how she goes from here on in.

The Mimosa is doing fine and has bounced back just fine from her topping and clean up. The runt that is the CBD auto is strolling along not taking any notice of anything I do to remedy her runtiness...

The Boomstick, is the most alert lady in the tent, staying small as proscribed by the wizard @Sawney_bean and has taken her trim up in her stride and is the only lass that is praying at the moment.

They are all plodding along ultimately, but they could be a lot better - I have tried a few things nothing seems to have worked, and so as not to chase my tail I shall let them go for a week and see how they go with no more chnegs in temps or RH or nutrients. As such I resset the res again yesterday to my normal everything and off we go again.

Thanks for the info mate, that's what I mostly have heard..

And yeah I checked the Rosineer, nice device, only about 900 dollars, its the same as the Gaspresso (from Goveda) 3ton automatic. They look identical...Probably comes from the same factory in China. A little overpriced indeed, if it was 4-500 I would think about it.
