Mephisto Genetics Yozhik's Grow #4 ... HubbaBubbaSmelloScope

Uh-oh ...

I hear the roll of thunder, and the sound of the first raindrops.
An afternoon thunderstorm in Spain, after a hot, hot day, can be TORRENTIAL, often with golf ball sized hail stones.
30 minutes of Noah and The Ark proportions.

This could be Armageddon.
Cannabis carnage.
Don't think the little girls are hardened for this kind of punishment.

COMMENTS:

Feeding day today.
Girls looked happy, and I caught them praying later in the day, so it suggests they enjoyed the buffet.

A little tweaking of the defoliation and LST, but nothing warranting a specific photo.

COMMENTS:

No feeding today.
Weather is perfect - around 32°C with a refreshing breeze and not a cloud in the sky.
Pretty sure if I was a plant, this is what I'd like it be like.
Life is good.

Campus cafeteria was open today.
The girls - in outside conditions - are thirsty lasses.
Needing about 3 litres every 2 days, and given we're only at Day 32 - that's a lot more than I have experienced in any indoor grow.
Of course, most of that is due to the summer outside heat, and the constant breeze whistling through and around the Airpots, but still - it's a healthy appetite, which is also evidenced by their beautiful colour and good growth.

I'm actually really loving their colour.

I suspect the change of soil and also the change to Advanced Nutrients Connoisseur range may have a bit to do with that.
It's hard to tell - there have been so many environmental variables with this grow - being outside after electrical misadventures, for one ... BUT - the colour and growth was good before heading into the great outdoors.

Hola mate! Some very nice looking plants there! I'm going to read all your other grows too and learn as much as I can about the outdoor techniques for autos here in Spain. Thanks for making the effort!

I'm growing outside for the first time this year, down in Alicante. I normally live in the mountains in Castellon, but it's not as good for growing herb due to the aspect, so have just rented a tiny finca for 6 months with no electric, no wifi or phone signal, a few acres of land and no neighbours.. Very cheap to rent so I will soon recoup the expenses once i harvest.

I'm doing half autos with a dozen of each (blue amnesia xxl, amnesia xxl and critical plus a single fast and vast). The rest are photoperiod seeds that I started indoors a couple of months ago: raspberry diesel, pineapple skunk, blueberry headband and super skunk. I also have a dozen cuttings of Blue Widow plus a couple of Somango and Og Kush trees.

It's my first time using autos, as well as being outside, so I'm a bit worried about bugs and mould, but I've got propolix, potassium soap, SB Invigorator, Neem oil, neem powder, Tec Fort, SMC, powdered nettle and horsetail to fend off attacks by insect or fungi. So if that lot doesn't stop the buggers, nothing will. lol.

Look forward to seeing how yours finish.

Hola @Farmer Giles !

I'm only outdoors because I melted the electrical wiring inside - literally.
But, the girls seem to be loving it, and to be honest - so am I.

This is only my 3rd indoor auto grow, split into a 3rd and 4th to respect different genetics and give the breeders their own spotlight.
Prior to that I had one disastrous outdoor attempt in the Spanish sun, but it was decimated by white moths gifting me some stem boring caterpillars, which I didn't notice until it was too late.
They came near harvest time, when temps cooled down a little.

They were about the only pests I encountered, but they were apocalyptic.

Had I known i was growing outdoors, I would probably have looked at getting some form of wire cage, with mosquito netting or orchard netting to surround it with - something that let the sun and ventilation through, but stopped the moths from getting in.

Given the extortionate cost of electricity in Spain, thanks to Iberdrola enjoying a supply monopoly, and Spain not having the foresight to capitalise on solar, I am looking to next summer to maybe start the girls of in the tent, and then moving them outside, which would end the need for air-conditioning, and lessen the risk of me setting the house on fire!

There is something else I might have to PM you about too, if that's OK ...

Hi mate,

yeah, I grew indoors in Valencia the last 2 years. First year I grew in July and August and used air con to try and keep things close to 30deg and it was almost impossible. Last year I stopped growing in the summer because as you know, the leccy bill is ginormous and it's way too hot in VLC. This year I only started them indoor, and I'm using the sun. Far more risk to pests / fungi, and less dense buds maybe, but sun's UV should make good crystals and I might use a cheapie greenhouse, which might limit bugs and enable me to flower into late Oct. I saw the one you did too, if it's the 6x3m Leroy Merlin one. Dancover do them too - 8x3m but it's delivery only and I'm too remote to have an address that Correos will ship to. Which is good as well as bad..

Cacking it about moths thb, got the bacteria that kills em, plus everything else i can hurl at them including an electric tennis raquet and I will buy an air rifle if I have to! ha ha. I'm going to try some companion planting to deter them and attract birds and put up bat boxes as well as prevention is better than cure.

Yeah, it's mad about the solar situation over here, instead of encouraging private renewables, I read the Gov created a solar tax for people ongrid who offset their bill or earn money selling it back. They're in bed with the power companies. IIRC there is more than one though, as I got pestered by one to change from Iberdrola, can't remember who though..

More than welcome to PM me. I've just joined this forum, so might not be able to initiate them myself, I'm not familiar with the forum rules yet..

hasta luego

It's a little more Monty Python than that.

The Government, through 'bond issues', etc - guaranteed a return to electricity monopoly Iberdrola, for their 'investment'.
Enter, stage left, solar energy.
So many people were taking the option to hook up with solar, and go off-grid, the government was left red faced with a shortfall in the dividends they had guaranteed to Iberdrola.

So, they decided to 'tax the sun'.

For those who had invested in their own property and were off grid with solar power, the government devised a tax to 'punish' them for not contributing to the guaranteed profits of Iberdrola.

Fucking insane - you invest in solar, and yet end up having to pay a government enforced tax, to boost the coffers of a monopoly electricity supplier you no longer use.

I also know of people who opted for the 'tied in' solar options, which generated electricity and contributed into the grid, running a kind of credit system, where they fed in some months, took other months, and there was either a rebate or a top-up depending on which way the usage pendulum swung.

Sounds good, until Iberdrola reneged and refused to pay any rebates if someone supplied more than they used.

It's a fucking scam.

Yeah, sounds about par for the course over here tbh. Still love the place though and would never go back to Brexit Britain. I don't have an electric bill anymore and won't ever again as I Iive totally offgrid so the tax doesn't apply to me, but I've paid enough to electricity companies over the years to fund a small war, so I don't feel as if I'm missing out :)
