Just to keep this Grow Journal 'honest' and complete, today I have thrown one of the Cream Mandarine XL Auto girls into the Infirmary Sub-Forum, regarding the 'delamination' of the upper leaf, as described in the Day 18 Update.

Thread Found Here

As a teaser, here is one of the photoss submitted for the consideration and examination of growers far more experienced than I ever will be:

Pretty sure that's just from the leaves "resting" on the damp soil after feeding at some point (if that's the lower leaves which it looks like).

Looking good in here mate. Those trainwreck are very impressive. Must give them a try sometime- also have a 4 pack of creme mandarin xls that you might tempt me into growing!
As for that leaf discolouration i think hans nailed it

Synchronicity ...

Was just pondering that very thing!

@Hansbricks - if correct, you've just made me a very happy and relieved man.
The suggestion of 'leaf miners' and using a loupe to detect as-yet-unidentified creepy crawlies was sending my hyperactive paranoia gland into over production mode.

I have to put my hands up, and confess @sanguine - the Sweet Trainwreck Autos were not my choice - they were a recommendation of @Sweet Seeds - but suck me dry and call me Dusty ... I sure am glad I took heed of the advice!

They look great - I'm really pleased.
Even the Sweet Trainwreck Auto #1 - the prem baby that I was almost certain wasn't going to make it beyond a few days - is now looking the picture of health.

As for the Cream Mandarine XL Autos ... well ... you're going to get a grandstand view of those two strains, 'cos at the moment, they're growing side by side in Dorm 1.

Yeah it's nothing to worry about dude, I've seen that before on some of my plants and I know it was just the leaves were sitting on the soil... Definitely not from any creepy crawlers lol.

You're girls are looking great, got a few that look extra special too ;) I'd definitely get them in the bigger pots though... I was kinda wondering why you started them off in the smaller pots again. I'm sure with all the research you've done you know most people just plant in the final pots (I know space isn't an issue for you).

There were a few things that influenced the decision ...

Firstly, I read a couple of posts on here where transplanting actually invigorated the plant, resulting in an explosion of growth from the new found freedom. The common sense in that just appealed to me.

Secondly, the other benefit I've found is that in the smaller pots, less watering is needed, which means less nutrients being used, so its more cost effective. Given they're also NOT airpots, the medium doesn't dry out as quickly as in an Airpot, which also adds to the 'less watering required' and the resultant cost savings.

... not to mention using less medium.
In the first grow, my germination rate wasn't 100%.
There were a couple of pots that had nice, new medium placed in them for a seedling that never eventuated.

16 x 30L Airpots of medium plus the frequent use of advanced Nutrients sure adds up!!

It's also the little things like the leccy saving too.
Smaller pots = smaller footprint = less lights required to cover same number of plants.
If I had thrown them into 16 x 30L airpots, chances are I wouldn't be able to get away with just using 2 x 600W HPS lights to cover them all. That number of 30L pots would pretty much take up the full tent area, whereas for the first 3 to 4 weeks, I'm only using half the tent area, so only needing to light half a tent.

Time will tell I guess ...

Fair enough ;) Yeah to be honest the 30L airpots are a bit overkill, the 15's are big enough IMO to not hamper any root development (I'm sure you've seen Tangs grows). When you switch to the Autopots I'd definitely recommend just keeping them in their final home though... Shouldn't need to water those much more than you are now since it's basically a regular pot until you turn of the aquavalves, also the square pots are pretty efficient as far as footprint goes.
:pass:

.....except I believe it should be "it's basically a regular pot until you turn ON the aquavalves" and for me, 30 L airpots ain't anywhere near overkill when you have the space you have......what with all that 2,2 m airspace potentially being deprived of earning it's keep.....lol
