Well alot of spec can go here this could be a natural reaction of the plant to survive destruction to an are from predators
you are actually creating more fan leaf area in the long run if you look once they are gone it appears the plant sends out a new and stronger wall of defense to protect the stalk in that area from another attack sorta

and light can hit areas also would be a more profound direction because outdoor where if you have no restrictions

if one noted a little quirk here alot of the controls picked turned out to be males???
that is only by the coincidence that i actually picked larger at the time plants for the control but the selection was from alot and only the most similiar ones were used to plant in thoose smaller containers
i had to replace some that were the closest to control(like the ziptie method was turned into a control) but honestly now i am only going to run the one control to finish because after all is said and done if this isn't done on clones and a hydro system one can't scientifically ensure exact same feeding
you can make two clones look alot dif just from the feeding ratios being dif really so most of this is for nothing
somebody else can do it if they wish i'm not wasting clone room to show this

Lets get one thing crystal clear.... here at AFN no one owns a thread...someone may start a thread but ownership is not going to happen. All threads are the right of every member to post in. Unless of course your in a private section, which this is not.

Everyone therefore is entitled to an opinion... I have to tell people over and over if your going to post on forums you need a hard shell. There will be misunderstandings, confusion, and mis-interpreted questions. There are some here with 10,20,30,even 40+ years of growing. There is no perfect correct way to grow any plant, only ideas.

And as I read thru this thread I can see that, comparisons are being made, but with so much variation from one pheno to the next, only thing to me that certain is variation, and with variation comes the need for very large #s to put forth reasonable conclusions.

Lets carry on here and understand that there is more than a few of us with decades of experience.

And when I see a bunch of post with two older members butting heads I take action before someone goes off flaming out of control. I read all the reported post threads and Its my job here at AFN to work to keep the vibe that is forward and positive. I know how you post and how bob is. you both have a short fuse and its time to quit squabbling.

t... honestly this thread wasn't started by me for other opinions to clutter it up... it was for techniques to be shared and maybe some people helped along the way

i have been often told i must be able to back up statements made by myself w/ scientific test results by people that have grown a couple of plants here and there???(not saying that here)
and other can have an opinion they can make a thread dedicated to their opinion and call it" why Skunky's thread on such and such sucks i don't care and won't post in their thread if they asked me not to just as a acknowledgement to their right to do so
when i say my thread i say it like it wouldn't be there if i didn't post it not that i own the copywrite on the thread or anything more like i own the pics that i was posting and i was sharing things that i am done sharing

the phe are VERY similiar as a matter of fact this is from manipulation of the one plant when they were little and actually i cheated alittle on the natural because i slightly altered those coupl of bigger bottoms but i want more from it and being as it wasn't for this post originally i didn't care the smaller was for pollination originally anyway as close as you could tell by sight here are the two dif plant leaf in the pic below

well one can count internodes and see the time between pics of the common earlier pics of plants for any funny buisness
and i have decided to end the post w/ this pic again

there is a pretty clear dif between technique and natural in my pictures opinion
the one on the right has been manipulated by LST and defoliation at dif time and certain places and the one on the left is "naturally"growing in better light technically but no need for that discussion

i want more buds like the one similiar to the yield on the right not smaller ones cut off a stick

this bud is actually one that most would have gotten rid of the chance to ever grow and the end of the cola was grown on the same plant as the other

just a quick compair in front of me

time to go burn this and eat some canna butter cool whip on top of some peach pie ummmm

my latest downfall i mentioned breifly in another thread , after defoliating a plant i was about to run this test/side by side on , it didnt take the watering well , wasnt enough plant to use the water quickly enough so the roots drowned , i chalk that up to my own mistake though as i should have realized it , i had recently transplanted them into thier final pots for going to 12/12 and the plant wasnt much past getting its feet planted firmly

in the past i noticed my buds sometimes apeared bigger , but they also were leafier and with that airier of course , final weight turned out less then the expected and well known/grown clones previously , what i found is when the plants wanted to replace the missing leaves some of it was in form of leaves in the bud , im sure defoliating during veg wouldnt cause it , but for me in early flower it seemed to , that takes me back to when i first stopped defoliating , i argued with the guy that not doing it is crazy , basically the same thing as today but roles reversed , as the plants grew i didnt see a noticable difference good or bad , it came to final product and weight for me to see and understand the guy i had been arguing with was on to something

over the years ive re-tried experimenting with it , only in veg , veg and early flowering , only late flowering , honestly though my best results are always letting the plant grow natural , that could however be because of the way we discussed my setup , even back in the beginning when we all grew with the comercial flouro tubes , i always had em going down the walls as well as above the plants , and ive always painted my floors and or even put mylar on them (the mylar is slipery when wet so be careful)

my very best results are lst , opening em up , ill kink the branches right over , sometimes ive snapped branches right off by accident , they become clones lol , i only recently started bending/kinking though , in the past it was tieing em down , i find bending way better for a couple reasons , the knuckle it creates adds strength and size once healed , and 2 : i dont have strings to trip over or catch my watering jug causing me to drop it on plants lol , my strings kinda acted like a scrog but only kinda

but even when bending , i leave the leaves alone , maybe a bit of tucking at times but nothing more

i find w/ proper application you can make a larger plant that is denser in a smaller space after a few sessions
usually i would recommend defoliating them at earlier stages as well never really got to the step by step that was going to be at the very end when value was noted
gotta run.. unexpected.. but ....
wanted to discuss some of the tech bob mentioned that were on the list for later
i will say this if a person told me i had only one technique to use and nothing more it would be LST for results hands down
