Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

@MMMi curious why not go with the EarthBox Original - holds twice as much soil as the Juniors and it will grow monsters?

EB is $35-50, Tote is $6. Plus I really don't like the little indented overflow. With a tote I can plumb it, pipe it, tube it, valve it. thinking about getting a common overflow drain via a gutter or something. If I can get the containers standardized, with a common drain going -- I'll take a stab at soldering copper pipe and install a proper garden hose spigot in my basement.

Kinda funny, I had an ida with the Black/Yellow totes at Walmart. I was thinking that you can use the plastic lid as ane easier way to access the soil for top dressing.

That was my thought. I've seen DIY sips where you just lay corrugated drain pipe at the bottom of a tote, put a drain hole in, some pvc as a fill tube. I figure I can put a grommet and an elbow in for the drain, use 1/2" tubing to put the drain water where I want it.

I was thinking I could use the lid as a cover, maybe cut if in half to accommodate the stalk, and drill a hole for the feed tube.

You'd have a large SIP for about 15$ with easily replaceable/local parts.

Just me but I’ll invest in the EarthBox - It’s been engineered to achieve perfect moisture .......

I like DYI when you can overbuild / engineer the project but I think the folks at EarthBox nailed it - at least from my research / experience ......

Add in the fact this is a very high value plant ..... monies invested will provide a high return - even if 1/4 oz more the box is paid for.

I've sunk plenty, lol. If I knew then, what I know now -- I'd have saved a bunch. I only grow for personal/family so income is a non-factor.

If I wanted pre-made, I could snag one of those $40 24x20 SIPs from home depot this afternoon. I considered it. It's still an option I'm considering.

The larger earthbox is heavy and they have wheels you can install - depending on the grow setup, the wheels could come in handy - so check that out .....

A full box takes two men and a boy to move, lots of soil in that box, super heavy.

Hopefully going to build my prototype tote sip tonight, time permitting. Snagged 12g totes, 4" drainage pipe and a couple of 1/2" grommets. If this works out I will decide between a raised platform for everything inside the tent -vs- individual furniture dollys.

The Jr's are doing fantastic. The runt is drinking about a liter a day, the big one about 1.75 liters/day. Only bottom watered, plain water during the week. They get the fancy fixins on the weekend. I really, really, really like the low maintenance of water only during the weekdays.

As soon as my rdwc fugue state finishes up (been 2 weeks out for about a month I think, she's looking ready but zero amber thus far), I'll rip that out of the tent and reconfigure so it's roomier.

Any opinions on if I really need to raise SIPs off the cold basement floor? I think I have to. My tent highs are 74. Lights off it's 65. Ambient is 63-64. The floor though -- gets colder.

Soil temps should be lower so unless basement floor is real cold I would leave alone or perhaps fold up a tarp to size and slip under.

Sounds like you are doing well! So I saw some Totes and had a similar idea. I didn't have the 4 inch drain idea though. I was gonna use 2 hydroton baskets as my 2 Wicking baskets. I have a few simple ideas. To be honest, the Juniors are cheap enough, really no need to make your own. But the ORIGINAL is too expensive for a large scale operation. My veg plants are doing excellent. They like the tap water, so I am happy for that. It makes life easier. All of the plants I have in Juniors are large and I think with the weekly top dressing routine they will do great. But without Top dressing weekly or large strains, Juniors are not ideal size for plants that will go a longer time. I don't mind weekly top dressing. But some people want less upkeep. Big plants in Juniors would be more upkeep than smaller plants. I would not want to go smaller than a Junior. 3gal is too small IMO for LOS. Too much work and potential to get hungry faster. I have some clones and seedlings bro get going. I see things are getting better, I am learning a lot. It's fun. I have the organic tools and knowledge now to do things nicely. Very Happy to have moved to this for my personal. It isn't cheap to get started, but honestly it is so worth it. My first round isn't even done and I am impressed. The potential is amazing. Im starting more seeds soaking. Plus taking more clones. Fun times
