Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

Using this stuff...
Cool, I am from the Mitten State too. I will be honest, I don't trust a ton of people in the industry here. Lots of shady people. I hope this soil works out for you. If it does, I will grab some for a few of my plants at my other locations. Not a bad price, if it is clean and local. How do you like the Bucket systems vs Juniors? Really by the time you buy everything they are same prices and Juniors are much shorter. I like that aspect of them vs 5 gal buckets. But I think the buckets might be a little easier to top dress. Good luck, peace slowandeasy

That soil is readily available and based on some research and some podcasts, I decided to go this route. There is also Sohum, and locally http://digitsoil.com/ I sent an email to digit and got no response, and didn't feel like hoofing over to a nursery to check it out.

I always assumed it would not be water-only, because of what I've read and my inability to just leave things alone...

The detroit soil is super, super light. Takes a while to hydrate. So far so good, I just wanted a base living soil to get started. My plan for the buckets is remove root ball, re-amend, re-cook, and re-use. Probably for the Jr's too.

I prefer the buckets, just for the form factor I have a 6.5' tall tent. If they get too tall I'll train or worst case scenario... supercrop. Removing that tissue paper cover on the Jr's is starting to get old when I can just plunk down my top dress on the buckets.

Now as soon as I get some of those new Meph Sativas in my mailbox -- I'll be dropping a couple more. :)

I dunno if you are a podcast guy, but here is one from the Detroit Nutrient Company.

I know the cover is kind of thin and a pain in the ass. But I actually like the idea of it and would make one for a bucket if I used them. I am a freak about pests. The cover breaks the cycle of you get any and that ia my biggest fear using soil. I don't want pests. I think pests would be able to effect your Buckets before the Juniors if for some reason the soil had gnats or something. Plus for my personal needs, a 5 gal bucket is too tall. However I really like the idea and will be interested to see how your buckets do. They would be slightly easier to manage just by shape and size alone. Good luck.

Pests are why I didn't start in soil. I got gnats from trying rockwool once, and I currently have a very small gnat thing going on. They seem to be drawn to my RDWC. I let the res levels rise a bit (didn't account for root growth fast enough) and got a tiny bit of them again. I have yellow sticky traps and everything, everything has a little mosquitto bits in them. That is also why I topdressed with some neem meal a week ago.

I think I was a bit naive thinking that hydro means no pests. Not the case.

I still have one RDWC plant left for a couple weeks, then I'll retool the tent after I recover that space. Have a couple coco hempys going, after they are done I'm going all organics. I like the chill aspect of organics. As it stands now my daily routine is PH/Topoff RDWC. PH/Check Nute tank for Coco Hempy's. Refill, remix as needed. For the organic grow? Add a little water to the tube. Done.

Settling into a routine. Going to do SIP/plan water on weekdays, every other day. Weekends is top dress, top feed, aloe, MBP, etc. Very chill.

I have grown all 4 Sativa/Haze girls. Plan for large plants. 2 plants per 4x4 area. Except the Super Orange Haze. That was small/med sized. Good luck

Do you have a preference? I've been thinking I wanted to start with Pink Panama. I've grown NCH and have a Fugue State finishing up, which are both Haze, and similar in size.

Super Orange Haze was smallest and fastest. I liked Mango Smile. Pink Panama had 2 different Phenos. 1 was very Sativa like, in a more Landrace way. Hubbanubba Haze will get big and branchy. Expect large plants. Very large plants!

Think I'll stick with Pink Panama to start. I've grown a couple SODKs as well, which have a bit of haze. They were quite large, and... delicious.
