Harvest & Curing What to do with trim???

Ideally everclear. You can freeze trim and everclear then combine in Mason jar or something similar. Shake it around for a couple minutes then strain through something to remove trim from alcohol.

From there you can evaporate the everclear as desired to increase potency. You also have a lot of other options as well like evaporating off all the alcohol for a thick oil.

If you do that you could use it sublingually still or add it to food or drink. Heck of you get all the alcohol out you can soak a bud in the oil then coat with kief and make moon rocks.
I need a good process tutorial.

Here are a couple links. Let me know if you have any questions. Super easy.

Simply freeze highest proof drinking alcohol you can. I use everclear. Freeze your trim (you can use vaped material as well). Combine the two for a few minutes while shaking.

Pour into another container using filter. I use coffee filter.

After that you can evaporate off everclear. Personally I put water in measuring cup and heat in microwave. Then I put mason jar inside the measuring cup with no cover on mason jar. That way it warms up your tincture and helps evaporate off your your alcohol. I do this until I can see oil starting to stick to mason jar but still goes back into suspension if I swirl mason jar. Then put into dropper bottle or leave in Mason jar in dark place.

Others will boil it off on stove but that's more dangerous. Others out in glass pan and use fan to speed evaporation then scrap off oil when done.

I like everclear since it's very high in alcohol and it's edible so even if you don't evaporate it all off it's safe to add to food or drinks.

What to do with trim is a tough question.
I've tried incorporating it directly into cookies, made long and quick soak tinctures, dry ice kief, and freezer kief.
Total effort needs to be considered too.

Everything has its advantages and disadvantages.
Incorporating whole trim into cookies is 100% efficient, but yields bad tasting cookies.
Long soak tinctures pick up too much chlorophyll.
Quick soak tinctures are too much work for my liking, and are wasteful of alcohol.
Dry ice kief requires going to the store, and the dry ice chunks cause lots of plant matter in the finished coarse siftings.
Freezer kief seems to have a lower yield, but surprisingly far less plant matter than dry ice kief.

I've finally decided to make freezer kief out of mine using an ~160 micron filter.

The nice thing about kief is that it's already a semi-concentrate, and can be used directly in many things.
I just made some oil tincture out of my first batch of freezer kief. I only got a 10% yield of kief, but it's pretty clean.

In the future I'll be decarbing kief, and infusing it into the recipe oil for fudge, brownies, cookies, etc, (along with some lecithin).

I threw the quarter to third of an ounce or so of trim that I had from my last plant into a jelly jar with some 126 proof Buffalo Trace white dog Which is bourbon that has not been aged. I had two bottles of it one opened on hand so I didn’t need to buy any Everclear or 151 proof rum. This stuff is about 63% ethanol which is barrel proof. My next batch is a couple of days away from harvesting so this stuff has been soaking for about three months and I gave it a little bit of heat about a month ago. I haven’t tried any of it, but what I think I’m going to do is take the trim from this big plan I’m growing now and put it in some more white dog and the existing batch of tintureinto a larger jar and heat that up/around and let it percolate for a few months. It looks like I have a bout 3 ounces at the greasy green liquid at this point

Thanks all. I am going to do the 99% isopropyl method this time. Pretty straightforward, quick, effective. I have a hotplate with a keep warm setting so no open flame issues.

People need to use liquor because denatured alcohol like what you find at Home Depot has methanol in it which will make you go blind and die. That was apparently a little invention that they came up with it during prohibition to keep people from drinking “hydraulic fluid.”

But doesn't methanol evaporate quicker, presumably more fully, than ethanol?

99% pharmaceutical alcohol has zero methanol.

BTW It is denatured alcohol that has methanol. Please no one use Denatured Alcohol!
