when u top a plant u divert the "juices" to the lower shoots, so it's not just about making one top into two, it changes the overall growth of the plant..
topping at 4-5 node gives a nice balance of both ...

In tests that I've done with photoperiod strains and Autoflower strains I found that if I fim them i can increases production by about 30%. properly done a fim can give you four or more tops and it also seems to redistribute the hormones around in a fashion that's more effective than just a top.
When do you normally fim ? certain week or depending on growth?
Ah good stuff mate, just putting together last nights feed activity into another time lapse really enjoying seeing the difference nutrients make over a few hours.

For me it's kind of a gut feeling or maybe I'm getting some psychic communication from the plant, that tells me when it's best to do so. Most of the time I do it around Note 5 or 6, but but I haven't done it in a while because my yields have been so high with autoflowers anyway.
