Noticed you mentioned horn toads. When I was a kid they were all over. I remember hunting for them at summer school recess.

Unfortunately, the population in the southwest and one state, in particular, has been near extinction.

Here are some cool colors to go with your cool plants, waira. A cloud caused some shade till I got the camera, but when it was shining on him (her?) it was all full spectrum glittery.. real cool. I had to shoosh him (her?) off the driveway so the twins would leave it alone. One of them wanted to stomp on it! :no: Her brother and sisters were all, "HEY!!! No! Bad!! AAAAhhhh...", because she wanted to stomp it. So then she started crying, of course, and now they're out looking for new bugs so the little one can feel like Queen Kong again or something. Kids...

Yeah, thanks Noods! Worth the wait- :High 5: Those metallic colors on insects are a marvel, aren't they? This is a species of Longhorn Beetle, I believe, a pretty sizable family... We have a big (3"+) one around here, all earth tones, rare though... LOL! - tell the girls to leave'm be, that carapace is rather tough, and they have a set of jaws that will do more than leave a mark (like cuticle nippers of sorts); they also might release a stink if pestered too much (?) Besides, the mess it'll leave on the bottom of your shoe will gag ya! :roflcry: Thanks brother Noods!

I dunno, Big'un, I never smooshed one before, and I'm not 100% sure they got stink weapons like some others do around here... the stink these black shiny ones have is crazy powerful though,... sharp, acrid, chemical foul, unique... The shoe mess, I learned the hard way from a Palmetto bug, you know well.... 3+" cockroach!
