Waira puckers up for more KIS's with auto & photo ladiez!

:shooty: thanks guys, no worries! I'm savvy to these critters, local and the even more fun species in FL - :nono:  ...it was just so very unlikely to encounter one this close to the coast, as it's much cooler vs. inland even by only a few miles...
Yup, that was my biggest fear for Freddie if he got struck! This bugger had about 5-6 rattles, maybe a year+ old?.... est. 16" or so... I'm not sure if the more aggressive tendencies of a very young rattler would still be expressed, but from how quickly it started striking, I'm betting it would have been a gland dumper!

Bill, in Fl at the Aquaculture facility, driving out to there with my gal at the time, we were blocked across the road by a monster Cotton Mouth mama, just soaking up the late afternoon heat!... really beefy and 6+ft, she was actually pretty calm,... We both got out to check her out... She gave us a brief look, and start to ease off the road, no hurry at all,... we were OK on waiting :rolleyes2:

LOL! I had a butt clencher moment for sure mate, Freddie had his nose withing several inches before I spotted it...:nono: ...Animals just seem to know, he didn't make any move on it, he knew it wasn't a lizard! A new smell that tickles the danger signal in their instinctual heads!

Outside near my soil bin, next to the house chimney.... it was a nice warm spot, small wonder it decided to bask there for a while...
I've seen some nice sized ones sunning above the water line in Ft Clinch state park when I was doing work out there.

Many years ago, I got a 1AM call from my neighbor screaming her lungs out. She had a rattler in the house. I jumped in the truck and sped down the road. I was a brand new home with the husband as the general contractor. He was also an airline pilot and was off somewhere. When I got out of the truck, I reached behind the seat to get my snake stick and thick leather gloves. The snake was in the fireplace. Thank god there was no rack in there. I've caught quite a few live snakes, but I'm sure no expert. I got it corralled, took it outside and cut it's head off. I skinned it before going to bed, but I'd have to pin it out.
It was a pretty big snake for that area. She was over 6ft long and had little ones when I skinned her the next day/. She made a badass hat band!
Something I forgot to add.............
When Chuck was building the house, Iwas down there quite often after work. Chuck had an outside access for the wood storage box. It wasn't designed very well. I warned Chuck about snakes. He blew it off. The poop hit the fan when Chuck came home and during the heated "discussion" about the snake, dumbass Chuck let it out that I had warned him about snakes. She made him brick up the access point! LOL!

You don't want to be around Cotton Mouths when they are breeding! I was with Dad fishing for spring crappie in the shallow water coves from a boat. It was getting late and were about to go to a spot and sit for a few hours for some good night fishing.
It was dark, but since we were gonna move soon, we didn't turn the lights on that would ruin night vision. It was a fairy bright moon lit night.
I moved the boat into an area with a jutting out willow. AsI got closer, I thought I could see movement in the trees, but it was really weird looking. I told Pop to hit the tree with the spot. The damn tree was full of damn snakes all balled up and slithering around each other! Scared the hell outta me! And REALLY scared me when they started moving towards us. I went full reverse with the trolling motor and Pop fired up the big motor and hit reverse just about as quick as humanly possible! LOL! :funny: :funny:

:jointman: hey y'all!

Just chugging along here with the auto's... week 3+ now, and finally seeing a bit of stretch on a couple, the Zam and WC are still squatty and not blooming yet...
Zam looks close, but WC is acting anomalously. Best not be a misfire auto! :nono:

They got a hit of Terp Tea Bloom, some EWC top dressing, and today a shot of Roots HPK (0-4-3), basically liquid bat poos-

:yoinks: And in other alarming news: yesterday my friend's little Chihuahua was nosing around the soil bin... I thought he was after his usual lizard tormentors, so I went over to goad him on,.... WHOA! -->

Fuck a duck!-- not what I was expecting in the least!
I had to shoo Freddie away, then scramble for a container which was close at hand fortunately!
I scooted it into the bucket gently, but not without some striking and rattling drama -:cuss:= very nasty tempered about the whole deal, buzzed and postured the whole way over to a field nearby for release. This is a very very rare find this close to the ocean, though Western Rattlesnakes do range to the coast here... fek me, now I'm going to be bug-eyed for a while working back there...:peek: :haha:

You grow the nicest plants. Never seen that last plant before... Cannabis L. Crotalinae?

The S99 and Zamadelica have nice structures to them.

Freddie is almost as lucky as the snake. Not many peeps would have released the snake.

Up here in BC, rattlesnakes have been nearly wiped out by individuals who attend hibernacula when the snakes emerge in spring and kill the snakes. Emerging snakes spend a lot of time close to the entrance in a very lethargic state, so they can be easily killed or collected in wholesale quantities at the right time in the spring.

The last hibernaculum I had a look at quite a few years ago reportedly had at least a couple dozen snakes around as they emerged a year or two earlier. There were two snakes there when I had a look. Probably none now, but I have not been back.

 some folks just have to learn the hard way,...

:yoinks: breeding snake-ball tree?! - definitely the wrong orgy to crash!

:jointman: thanks DTC, I'm still puzzled at their size,...the coolness wasn't long in duration or that bad ... maybe I reduced the KIS input too much? Not cooked long enough? I'll never know for sure, but adjustments still on-going...

Those "round-ups" and other fuckwaddery behavior always pissed me off! They play a huge role in rodent population control in particular, but that's not figured upon clearly,... :nono:

"Rattlesnake Round ups" occur every year in many places in Texas. It's really the rodent population that controls the rattlesnake population.. You'll never get all the snakes and there will be plenty of rodents for them to eat. Rattlesnakes are very prolific live bearing snakes.
It's pretty crazy seeing big pits of rattlers that guys walk into. I think I was 10 when we stopped at one of these gathering of all the rounded up snakes. I had to ask Dad several times for a dollar to get a piece of fried rattler.
Tasted good and like chicken!:eyebrows::funny::funny:

I think it was an Anthony Bourdain episode someplace in SE Asia where a market place food stand served fresh snake, some live in cages and butchered and cooked on the spot, fried in a wok! Also featured were cobra gall bladders, swallowed whole to increase their fucking virility, like that needs to happen-:rofl:
