When you have been here for 70+ years you have a story for every Occasion. :baked: Don't remember exactly when? like fourty years ago
out fishing in my Canoe. quietly paddling along i saw a snake curled up on a boulder that was completley submerged except for the tip'
It was sound asleep. as i paddled by i tapped the rock with my Paddle. BIG MISTAKE! the snake exploded in the air and landed in my lap in the canoe.:yoinks: i looked at it, it was a water moccasin. i rolled the canoe dumped everything in the water, including the snake.
had two rods, tackle box and cooler. save one rod lost one, and the rest floated long enough to grab.

Snake Story Time!
Pop and I were at the deer lease for bird season. It was a hot mid-afternoon day. Conditions were dry, so we head out walking from camp. We're hunting on the way there. Sky..........ground............sky ........ground...........looking for birds and snakes! I was stepping over a log as I heard a rattle and saw a shape. I still had one foot on the ground, so I jumped, turned in midair and blasted the snake at point-blank. It WAS a pretty big snake, about 5ft. I didn't have time to think. I was totally an automatic reaction.
LOL! It scared the shit outta Pop! "God Damn Boy!", was what he shouted.
I guess it was a good thing it wasn't coiled up. It was moving along close to the log. It couldn't strike perpendicular to itself.

Good hunt! We both limited out! Mmmmmmmmmm..............camp smoked bacon wrapped dove breast,,,,,,,,,,,,mine had a section of garlic on the backside of the breast held in by the bacon.

Snake Story Time!
My other hobby is kayak fishing. I have had everything from 6' water snakes try to hitch a ride with me to a diamondback falling out of a tree and missing my boat by 2 feet. Never been bit though (knock on wood). Don't get me started on gators in the marsh. Yikes.

If I lived in Australia I would be dead by now I'm sure. Those critter don't f- around.

Especially when you're sitting miles deep in the marsh on a 12' plastic boat with a paddle and a MH weight fishing rod as your only weapons. I love chasing redfish but not that much. That's why a lot of guys carry a firearm when doing that kind of angling.

OP - sorry for the hijack. Back to your originally scheduled programming.

With the crocs we have up here , the is no way you would fish the rivers in a canoe . Many years ago I was pro Barra fishing on the Daly river in the Northern Territory , We had 7 mtr tides , I was scooting along the bank at low tide in a 14 foot tinny and a bloody big croc flew over the top of me . the bank was straight up and down it was sunning it's self . Lucky the tide was low and I was going fast . Due to big tides some times our nets would roll up into a ball and go walk about and have to go and find them . One day me and the skipper where in the tinny getting a net and I had to go into the water to get the anchors , as I looked to the skipper he had the rifle up , there was a big croc about 30 feet away from me . Its ok the skipper said . F:cuss::cuss::cuss: you , I broke records getting back in .
