Harvest & Curing Vacuum Sealing For Long Term Storage?

Sorry guys i have to disagree, Mason jars and boneva packs are good for up to a year(of course its good longer but isnt as good as it once was) vac sealed can last twice as long. Ive seen Muddy talk about this before. you have to do it right or you will ruin your buds but it is the way to go if your talking about over a year storage. wish i could keep my meds around that long that be sweeet! :Sharing One:

I've been vacuum packing my weed for about 5 years now. I don't suck all the air out to the point where the buds are compressed to much. If they are, a few seconds in the microwave will fluff them back up after the pack is opened. I generally find that 3 years is about the maximum. After that I have noticed a slight decrease in potency.

Also, it's a good idea to recheck the vacuum packs a couple weeks after they are packed. I've had a few leak and have had to redo them.

Thank you for chiming in, I am grateful. :bow:May I ask at what point in the curing process do you vacuum seal. A month? Two?

i am planning to dry using the brown paper bag method and then mason jars and Boveda 62 for the cure. How long do you typically cure for? :thank:

I usually cure for about a month before vacuum packing. The cure is usually in quart mason jars. I smell them as soon as I open them to vent and as long as the smell is still sour I know they are still curing.

Thanks Muddy you are a gem

At at the risk of sounding like a total simpleton, could you explain the term "sour" a bit better. I have never grown/harvested/cured my own weed before, so only know what bought stuff smells like.

Sorry to be a pain, but I suppose you weed guru types get newbies tugging at at your coat tails regularly

No problem, glad to help. Once you get some buds in a jar you'll understand. Curing allows the chlorophyll to dissipate. As it does it gives off what to me is a sour odor. If you dry too fast the chlorophyll can get locked in and your buds will smell like hay. By curing slowly that won't happen. Once all the chlorophyll is gone the smell will be that of the strain, maybe fruity, spicey, diesel, depending on the strain.

Why not vacuum seal the mason jar? Seems better than using plastic bags. I seal everything nowadays using a very cheap wine bottle sealer and a jar accessory. You can fit the rubber wine bottle stopper over the small hole in the center of the lid accessory and apply some pressure to get a seal, and then use the wine sealer to pump out all the air. Could spend a couple $$ on the actual sealing machine for additional suction power, but meh this method seems to work well for me.

I'm outta smoke at the moment : ( so showing my coffee pods instead. This cost me $15 total I think, and you can seal up your wine too!
