Thanks muddy u seem to give the best advice and always seem to have a solution to my problems. Whats a good ph for soil? And if I have a full bag of OF and a full bag of LW should I mix them together or fill the pot with ocean forest take a few handfuls out and put some LW in it like u recommended the other day? I don't want my seedlings to go in nothing but OF because u said this could be the reason my previous plants seemed short and stunted.

The pH should be in the 6.3 - 6.5 range. Either method will work, either using the OF with some LW in the middle, or a mix of the two. Some use it 50/50, others 70% OF to 30% LW.

Should I mix some perlite with the two or would the LW make it airy enough? Because I think root growth was a problem in my previous grows in which I used nothing but OF

It should be fine as is, but if you already have it, adding about 10% to the mix would be good.

Can they go straight under my 400w hps? I have a 150w also but not in my tent because there's not room for both.

yes just keep them a good 18-20 inches away until they are ready to handle more light..

Really less than a foot? It makes sense since they'd be getting more light but I always read keep ur 400w hps about 3 feet away so they don't burnt.
