Hi Trailanimal!

I was looking at retiring in Belize where part of my self subsistence living farm would have included composting toilets - humanure! In my studies of the subject it required a minimum 1 year in the closed barrel and 1 year in a regular compost pile to make it suitable for farm operations. One of the many potential problems reported with early use was dangerous pathogens and organisms that killed plants - damping off. So maybe that is what you ran into early in this grow? Humanure has been used probably since farming began or even before when someone dumped where the wild berries grew LOL.

You're going to get some good bud from those survivors.

Good luck.

The potting and starter soil have no fresh compost added, human compost mulch after plant well established. Base soil coming from garden, which had 1/2" to 1" of compost worked into top 3'' last spring, and vegetables grown. the veggies don't damp off. And, some cannabis strains aren't bothered at all. I know the soil is teeming with life. Arctic spring's short rush I imagine microbes on steroids

I have no concept of what is happening in Arctic Soil - I live in the desert!

I will be following your grow to see how it goes.:pop:

Up here the growing season is cool and short, theromphilic composting is impossible. A long slow moldering processes, takes about 2-3 yrs to get a useable compost.

What are your temperature ranges in the summer?

A bigger pile covered with straw then black plastic might get you hot enough in the middle. Lots of work though as you need to turn it every 3 days.
