#5: SLH & SD - Day 1
  • Day 1

Seeds were germinated a couple of days ago in Pro-Mix HP and small fabric nursery bags (sort of like a homemade Jiffy pellet lol). Cotyledons have been opened for ~36 hours and first leaves are emerging, so I stuck 'em in some solo cups:

For anyone whose followed my journals, you probably know I'm a numbers nerd. So here are some nerd numbers:

    Temp: 26 deg C
    RH: 72%
    DLI: 18 (280 PPFD at 18/6)
Water: ~40ppm tap water adjusted to pH of 6.3

    Basic Setup:
    -2x4x6ft Mars Hydro Tent
-AC Infinity 6" Exhaust fan + filter
    -Honeywell humidifiers/heaters
    -Cheap low-profile ventilation fans
    -2x HLG 135W R-Spec QB v2 LEDs
    -General Hydroponics Flora Series nutes
    -Pro-Mix HP growing medium

My last two grows were in an automated coco setup. I'm going to re-use "some" of this, most likely the automatic drain saucers, but I'm still figuring out those details. More on that later.

    That's all for now!

    #5: Day 14
  • Day 14

Well folks, it's the end of the second week since sprout. These plants seem to be growing very quickly. The SLH in particular is looking damn near perfect, especially in terms of it's symmetry. The SD is nice and green but it's probably a day or so behind so far. Either way, I'm very pleased with how things are going. Both are currently working on their fifth node, so these will be topped this coming week.

I decided to retire my automated drain system from the previous coco grow. I'm currently hand watering, but I think I'll get my resevoir tank/automated watering system back on the go for plain watering. I suspect I may carry on fertilizing by hand, but we'll see.

I've fed once more - yesterday at 550ppm, pH at 6.4. I'm now keeping the blue supplemental LED on for the full 18 hours, with PPFD closer to 325 and VPD around 0.9.

    #5: Harvest Report
  • Harvest Report

    Hey folks,

So I let the plants hang dry for 8 days at 20C/60%, then put them in paper bags for another 2 days (opening/rotating bags every 12 hours) - this is as per Grove Bag recommendations. I've never tried it before, but why not. It's allegedly to help wick away any excess moisture prior to curing? Anyway, after 10 days of drying, they've been trimmed and put into Grove Bags

    Yield Report

    Sour Diesel - 129g
    Super Lemond Haze - 299g
    Total dry weight - 428g (15.1oz)

An ounce shy of a pound! Oh well, I'll take it. This was a 16 week grow, and has been my most successful yet.

Thus concludes tronGrows #5. Thanks for stopping by, and stay tuned for tronGrows #6!

    #7: Chemdawg
  • Hi everybody,

    Welcome to tronGrows #7

I really dropped the ball on tronGrows #6 having only posted 3 updates - compare this to tronGrows #5 where I posted dozens lol. Oh well. Onto #7, which I hope will be a little less lazy on my part...

This time around I'm going for ONE photoperiod plant, which I hope will be a monster. I'm ready for this bad boy to veg for 10 weeks if it has to! I'll be growing a single feminized Chemdawg strain from Humboldt Seed Organization. I was originally planning on growing a Bubba Kush also from HSO, but it damped off on me shortly after sprout. I've actually been having some bad luck with these HSO seeds from GTA Seedbank. I've had a very high germination success rate from various breeders via True North Seeds, but I've had several HSO's from GTA Seedbank damp off under similar conditions. Nothing against the breeder or seedbank - I'm a fan of both! Just luck of the draw I guess... Fortunately, this Chemdawg seems to be taking off, so I figure this is the time to try for a single plant grow.

To recap, tronGrows #6 featured three plants: a Cheese XXL Autoflower from Dinafem, a Master Kush photoperiod from Dutch Passion, and a Blueberry photoperiod from Canuk Seeds. Training wise, simply topping and LST. My yield was 8.5oz. On the other hand, tronGrows #6 featured a Super Lemon Haze and Sour Diesel both from Canuk Seeds, grown under a SCROG, and produced nearly a pound in my 2x4! There's no denying a SCROG yield really speaks for itself with photos... so tronGrows #7 will feature the return of the SCROG! Overall, #6 was a bit more "loosey goosey" in terms of less training, less nutrients, less light, mishmash of photos/autos, and no automatic irrigation.

In terms of nutrients for #7, I'm stepping away from the 10-part General Hydroponics system and going with a bit of a custom formula using primarily Greenleaf Mega Crop 2-part, with some supplementals from NPK Industries (Yucca powder, amino acids and silica). I'm keeping a couple of GH bottles on hand: Cal Mag (my tap water is 0 ppm), Diamond Nectar (kelp + humic acids), and Rapid Start (for the molybdenum). As always, I'm keeping an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my N-P-K-Ca-Mg-S ppm's to make sure everything is nicely balance. Careful with mixing line ups, kids! Kudos to Man O' Green for his insights... ;)

Anyway, the Chemdawg is around 5 days from sprout. I'm using Pro-Mix HP (peat + perlite + dolomite lime + mycorrhizae). This is currently in a nursery bag under ~150ppfd. Initial medium soak was at 150 ppm (80ppm calmag + 70ppm Rapid Start + yucca); with one subsequent watering of calmag + rapid start + 25% Mega Crop + yucca at around 250ppm). pH at 6.4. Temps 26C and RH 72%.

    #8 - Critical Kush
  • Hey folks,

Back again. I got 8oz dried from the Chemdawg plant - a decent haul but a little disappointing considering the long ~10 week veg time...
Lesson learned: more plants = reduced veg. time = greater output efficiency

    Oh well! On to...
tronGrows #8: Critical Kush by Barney's Farm - Featuring a new 3x3 Tent...

So I went and got myself a 3x3 tent to replace the 2x4. My most efficient yields in the 2x4 was with two plants; I'm aiming for 4 plants in the 3x3.

    Overview of grow room upgrades:
    • Replaced 7 gallon reservoir bucket with 27 gallon reservoir tote bin;
    • Replaced 7 gallon drain bucket with 12 gallon drain tote bin;
    • Space heater and humidifier moved outside tent to lung room;
    • FloraFlex PotPro self-draining saucers
    • Vivosun Oscillating Clip Fan
    Still using:
    • SCROG
    • Hydro Halos for drip irrigation
    • InkBird Temp/RH Controller
    • AC Infinity Exhaust Fan
    • Pots drain into a smaller bucket inside the tent; gets pumped out to 12 gallon tote bin
    Stay tuned!

    #9 - Bruce Banner #3
  • Welcome to tronGrows #9 - Bruce Banner #3 by Original Sensible Seeds.
I'm currently at the end of week 3 of flower. Here are some notes:
    • 4 plants in 5gal pots of Pro-Mix HP.
    • Mega Crop 2 part, ~500ppm, yucca powder, humic acid. Very light feeding with occasional plain waterings in-between.
    • 2x HLG 135 v2 R-spec; currently pulling ~310Wac; ~700 PPFD; lights 12/12.
    • Vegged for ~6 weeks. Under a SCROG, two rounds of toppings. Continued tucking under SCROG for a week or so after flip.
    • Pruning on day 10 and 20. Mild defoliation as needed.
    • Regrets: I wish I had flipped to flower a few days earlier, and that I was slightly more aggressive with pruning. Things are a little crammed (a common problem of mine, ha) but I'll deal with it.
