Are there any decent alternatives to the meanwell drivers? I'm struggling to get the meanwell hlg-240h-c1400b in my country! (UK) I need it to have the same spec as above with dimming please :)

Inventronics is a decent brand. Drivers are important but also not as important as people make them seem. Meanwell has a good efficiency and reputation. If I had to guess I’d say I have purchased over 1500 meanwells with 100% success. Years later and still kicking. I think most drivers should last long enough. My mars drivers didn’t last much longer than 2 months after I did my first conversion though. I had 2-36v cobs going and believe the driver was 80-90v. I have done conversions with single 50v cobs and they are going great. Pretty much one reason I suggest them. Not sure if it’s the lower voltage that’s helped.

Thanks BigSm0 :)

They are a driverless cob that plug straight in to the wall. I will get a watt draw tomorrow. But i know i cant even look at them while on. They are 3000k spectrum.
Do you have a link to these kinda curious about them maybe use them in the veggie greenhouse

Not sure on wall watts out of light but from plug im using almost 130 watts with fan and both lights! Used infared temp gun and lights are 93 degrees Fahrenheit after 18hrs on so thats good. I am running 3 fans though.

Well with @BigSm0 ’s help I converted this piece of crap Galaxyhydro 300w panel I have. It’s not pretty but it is functional. The heatsink was so small for this panel I had to get created to not spend more money on another HS. The three COBs are spread out on the heatsink as far away from each other as possible. I ran it without the fans for about an hour today and when I grabbed the heatsink it was only warm to the touch. I put it back in the car and ran it for another hour with the fans on and when touched the heatsink was cool. So I’m pretty sure the passive cooling is working.

After we realized that there was so little to the HS it was decided to not bother removing all the solder points and sanding down the entire panel where the lights would not be anyhow. Hence why I say, it’s not pretty.

Happy it worked out for you. Next time I would suggest flipping the plate over though. The cob surface is more important than the heatsink surface. The aluminum plate is the first heatsink.

:crying:Now he tells me! Geez am I not an idiot for not seeing that myself. Huge stoner moment.
If I had done that, would I have been safe spreading out the COBs more? If so, i’ll Just redo it.

Also could you tell me, is there a post around here that explains the formula involved with determining how much one of these drivers is going to send to the COBs? I am currently only pulling 85 watts at the wall with all three and the fans powered on.
