hi

am still in the planning process of making my stealth grow and i have 3 questions i would be grateful for any advice or comments

1) this maybe a silly newbee question but if i was to use led lighting for a closet grow would i need a heater for temp control

2) what sort of area size would i need to grow 6 short/medium plants? . just so that i can get an idea what sort of cabinet i can base my stealth grow on

3) what size of led lamp would i need

i am sure i will have a load more questions and yes i do go thru this site for info but not for these specific questions

any help would be received very gratefully

Whether you will need a supplemental heater or not will depend on your incoming temperatures. I use LEDs and in the winter, my incoming temps at night might get down to 65 or lower. Ideally you want to maintain as close to 79 degrees as possible and most people don't keep their houses that warm in the winter. So yes, I expect you will need one.

An area about 2 x 2.5' to 2.5 x 3' will be plenty to grow 6 small to medium autos. My area is 2 x 2.5' and I can fit either six 2 gallon pots or four 3 gallon pots in it. I'm running a 180 watt GLH LED in it. I also have another area, 3 x 4', that I run two of the Blackstar 240 watt LEDs in. For the size areas I listed, one of the Blackstar 240 watters would work fine.

Hope that helps.

I grow with CFLs, 1400 watts worth of them. I have to use a 1500 watt supplecmental heater with its own thermostat set at 70 degrees F. I have my eshaust fan on a thermostat and turn it off at 75 degrees. My bubbly tank is in a 9 X 7 ft. room with 8 ft cielings. Of course I am in Canada where it gets cold. I also use a switch to turn the outside air off when it is below 50 degrees F both on the inlet air to my bubbly pump and inlet air to the room.

thanks for replies,

hmmm more thought required me thinks because my original idea to use led to lower the chance of heat signatures from pesky feds in the sky by using heatures to keep a certain temp that would surely give off a firmiliar heat signature for growing buds

I think that both CFL and LED are both excellent for keeping the infrared heat signature from being spotted. When I built my room I lined all four walls with tin. It is easy to clean and makes the room way harder to spot with infrared signature. good luck with your room or tent, bud and I wish you every success.

That's not really the case. If you're running a 600 or 1000 watt hps the temp inside the fixture is very high, right around the bulb. So you're got a small area of intense heat. With LEDs and a heater that isn't the case. The heater is only used to maintain the desired temp, 79 being ideal. So the temperature will be even and will not draw unwanted attention. IMO, it's also easier to add heat than have to remove it.

hey

i bow to your superior knowledge  and makes sense to me now i have been thinking about it and im not even stoned :o

which leads me to another question i have been crawling through this site and the net so lol read mixed reviews regarding which heaters to use so i will just go ahead and ask which heaters do you guys use or recommend

once again thanks for your patience with me

I just using an $18 electric heater from WalMart. Two speed with a thermostat, nothing fancy. It mostly runs during lights out. I'm using LEDs which raise the temp about 5 degrees, enough heat to maintain the temp when the lights are on.

they technically aren't allowed according to recent court cases... its considered an invasion of privacy... but i wouldn't put it past em to start using that and then come in from another angle to arrest / prosecute...

however... i haven't heard one story either...

busts are usually due to tips from someone who picked it up and isnt friendly... or more usually... self stupidity.. ie telling the wrong friend... or people in general... or by some other issue that results in police presence in your home or grow zone...
