Indoor Squid's Second Grow-Duurty Dragon, Diesel Ryder & MI5

Im having a real hard time believing that its bleaching, cuz i was running 5 4ft t5's just inches, im talkin' 2-4 inches from the top of my babies for a month, b4 switching to the hps, with no problems like that. Im eager to see what muddy says.
I'm with you growbewan,i run T5 lights 4" above my plants and haven't experienced this and i'm only running 30 watts less light then Squid. I would think it would effect all the plants and not just some of them if it were bleaching. Squids lights are more cfl like then normal T5 tubes so maybe thats it but i'm eager to see Muddys opinion also.

Yeah, don't you just love that light pyramid, Growbee? Badass, I need to save that one for my arsenal of help that I use, like that ph chart I got from here somewhere. I throw that things around a lot. haha

I am still waiting on Muddy, but I am going with bleaching considering all other factors. And T5s are just different. I knew they were, but I didn't think these were that much more powerful, but I really think they are. I mean, pl-55 bulbs are well...55 damn watts each, and that's a two foot damn bulb, and 5000 lumens each. Now that I break it all down, I was just blasting my seedlings with the sun. This lamp puts out like your high-school girlfriend. Sucks about the bleaching, but I am really liking this Tek lamp. Next time, I won't have another in flower in the tent with them, so I will start them on the two actual T5s only.

Thanks guys!

I just found this:

This picture is what light bleaching/ light burn looks like.
Only way to fix this is to Move the lights away from the plant!
Or make sure you dont go over 75 watts a sq foot, or your plant will have to much light and light bleaching can occur anywhere on the plant. (indica species seem to bleach easier than sativas imo.)

That kinda looks like mine, thanks man. But my sativas are bleaching easier, the DDs. and the MI5 indica aren't as much. I believe they're a mix of both, though. I backed it up to about 22 inches, I may back it up to 24 inches. Is the coloring supposed to go away though? What's already bleached?

I guess they carry their treits. I'm sure the new growth will be healthy green.

Alright. After another day, I have called it on those two MI5 that I thought had sexed yesterday. One is female for sure, and my best and fastest looking plant overall. The hairs aren't even slightly green or trying to be confusing, they are long and white/clear, at the upper-most node. She has been tiered into one of the 5L Airpots. Exciting!

The other, which is actually the next runner up out of all as far as growth and size and all, definitely seems to be a dude. At that same upper-most node there are four little green balls/pods, and no pistils. He has been tiered into one of the 1Gallon Rootbuilder pots. Also excited about this bad boy. Glad I have a male. Let's have another little dance. :dance2:

The 3rd and final MI5 looks like a girl, but I'm gonna let her go a bit longer in the cup, as well as all the others. Same deal with a couple of the DDs, kinda look like females, but they are coming along kinda slowly, could they be root-bound or something?

I had to do some maneuvering around with the different height of pots and cups, but I got it all worked out. All are at about 24 inches from the light now.
Sorry I didn't get any pics. Just have to wait.

Thanks for stopping by guys and gals :howdy:

glad to hear about your female..and the male. if nothing else, i know ill be getting mi5! hahaha anyway, you havent heard from the mud man yet?

Sorry guys, I've got family coming in from out of state next week so have been busy making preparations.

Honestly, I'm a bit stumped myself on this one. I still think the original issue was bleaching, given the way the yellowing was even and started from the middle and worked out. Now I'm wondering if it's just the chlorophyll coming back into the leaves since the light was raised that is changing their appearance. The only thing I know that has been effective with bleached plants is foliar feeding some cal/mag.

I know many of you are fans of starting in party cups. To me, they just aren't big enough unless you are using 32 oz. or bigger, especially in Pro Mix. I used 4.25" square x 5" deep pots to start my plants for a long time. I found that the starter nutes in Pro Mix were being exhausted by about 2 weeks and the plant required mild feeding by then. I've since move to cut of 1/2 gallon juice containers to start my plants. I'm now getting much bigger, healthier plants and haven't seen the lack of N that I was seeing earlier.

I would suggests feeding them some 1/4 strength veg nutes and a couple days of some foliar feeds of cal/mag. Keep a close eye on them and see if the leaves start to green up a bit.
