Hi shumway. How do you know would only get a few hours out of it?

It is the power and whether can be implemented on that not sure about

There are a hell of a lot cheaper panels on eBay and napkins have sales on at points

The cost of deep cycle storage batteries is very prohibitive.....

It's easy to say "Go Solar" but to implement a full solar installation requires solar panels, storage batteries, inverter, and the control panel....then you have to pay for installation....
With several electricians crawling all over your house I hope you can hide your grow very well :P

Ebay has cheap LED's.....remember you only get what you pay for.

So if you have $5k-$10k you can get yourself a great solar system to run your whole house, if not then get a "Blackstar" led panel (they seem to be all the rage)

Stunted Electricity
:smokebuds:

I'm not looking to solar power the whole house. I'm enquiring whether a gro room could be run from solar power that would only have to run cfl or led. If I have a power shortage it could be off for 24 hours it more. If cant store the solar power I could have the light running as standa fit about 12 hours a day in the summer. Going back a last year there were loads if people dissing LEDs. Now as you say there all the rage. I'm looking for an alternative that will not use lots of electric. That could stay under the radar and may well not be as expensive as some people think as to the size and actual power that's needed to produce for one or two lights. Not a whole house.

yes... its the scale prohibitive game ATM on that.... to run say 2 240 w blackstars... you'd need 1000 Watts of solar panel collecting and say 4000-5000 watss minmum storage cpacity.. plus charge controls (might as well drop the money and get the outback with MPPT charging (30% gain over normal)) and you still need an inverter of at least 500 wats thats decent... and we havent even talked about ventilation etc etc...

just go led for now... save you dimes and quarters... solar is coming down and battery technology is improving... its bound to get cheaper anyway...

Thanks folks. It wasn't how much. It was how and whether it could be done to power that small amount of led/cfl. I think with the answers it can be done. If theoretically possible I'm going to keep an eye out online for any journals etc.
Would it still need that storage space if it was, say, running 12/12 in a flowering stage after being prevegged?

you would need a lot of panels. you also need lots of deep cycle battery's, charging controller, ac inverters. the problem with the inverters is they dont completely make a perfect sine wave, most of them are square of round square. this leads to lots of noise, and alot of appliances will not function with the incorrect sine wave

well they do make since wave ones... but they are 3500 - 4000 dollars.... so again... might as well run your house while you're at it...

any inverter in a reasonable price range for this project would be cheap sawtooth wave... and not well regulated... its just not the same power ultimately and is very dangerous to low voltage devices that require steady low ripple power... like LEDS and their power supplys... :toke:
