Indoor simple soil question

That sounds good to me bro :D

Is the longer it sits the better? I've read it promotes good bacteria to start helping your soil but wouldn't I want to do thatright before my seeds go in or does it just make it ready to go?

I dont think its a good idea to do layers of differnt soil. Im not sur by experiance on that but i do remember reading somewhere that not having ur soils mixed well could cause.problems. I delieve u would want all ur roots to have a consistency in available nutes and water to air ration. Just sayin id maybe look into that a lil.

When ur soil sitts it alows the bacteria to start breakin down the nutes. If u added ur own ammendment u will also want to let it sit cause as the breakdown procsess begins ur soil will get hot and would burn a seedling up. If u mixxed in ur own ammendments wait at least 2 weeks but a month is better that should be enough time to let ur soil cool down.

Alrite thanks man that's good info. I'm expecting to have my beans germinated and ready in a week maybe more since they still haven't arrived ( I'm currently tracking them ). I just started mixing today and so it won't get to sit long maybe around 10 days hopefully it turns out alrite

I've mixed some in a plastic tub and who knows when my beans will arrive so how can I ensure my mix doesn't dry out? Just a cool dark room with the lid on all I need to do?
You don't want to make it air-tight... a cool, dark room with a lid on sounds fine. :D

Is the longer it sits the better?

As long as it isn't allowed to "sour", that would be pretty much true.

The more microbes, the merrier.

With all due respect, I do have personal experience with this. I'm not sure where you read it was a bad idea (neither are you, obviously), but whomever wrote it would not be able to prove it, because it is not based on fact... just the opinion of whoever wrote the piece you read... probably just repeating what they had read from some obscure post somewhere.

Just sayin id maybe look into that a lil.
He did look into it plenty... he started a thread. Two moderators with years of personal experience answered his questions (one of the two, L3V3R2ooo, has won the BOM and may have been nominated more than anyone else on the site). Is the problem that you feel members have to leave AFN to get credible advice? :peace:

Thanks man I literally popped the lid off as soon as u said dnt make it air tight but what do you mean by "sour"?

what do you mean by "sour"?

Most, if not all of the microbes need at least some fresh air. If the container is air-tight, the microbes die... making the soil smell "sour". You don't have anything to worry about the way you are doing it. :peace:

Woah joe no need to get offended bro i wasnt tryin to say u was wrong. Like i said its not from exp i think i read it in some book as i got several on related subjects. N i wasnt following ur other thread with this convo or i wouodnt have said n e thing so not to offend u n im not questionin ur exp. N did i ever tell n e one to search another site? It was just a suggestion as i didnt realize it had already been gone into.

Just for the sake of general interest--old time growers (me too when I want to act like I know what I am doing ) and farmers refer to 'sour soil' as acidic soil and 'sweet soil' as alkaline based soil. In the Golden Triangle the Opium farmers search out 'sweet' soil by taste. I am sure others on the forum have more tidbits. As a child I was rather fond of soil tasting :twist: these days less so ;).
