Semi-Stealth Micro Grow - "Casper"

Hey @Little Brother thanks for checkin in. The carpet square is a very good idea. I have some spare slices from moving in which I will try and find.

However I am already considering just forking out for a grow tent - lifting the box off each time i wanna check it out is becoming quite tiresome!

Either way, it was a fun experiment, and I will probably keep ahold of everything I've built for it (I've just finished the variable intake fan portions as well!)

Maybe it could serve its uses. Starter tent, maybe? I do have two 300w lights....it's just smell that I can't handle two tents worth!

I hear ya. I am currently growing in a bathtub heh. I just spent around 80$ on amazon for a 3x3 grow tent. I wanted to do everything myself at first but products designed for this do make it easier. I guess it just comes down to do you want to spend money. It is good to try on your own though. This is what i started out using. hanger 1.jpg

I thought about maybe trying "space bucket" at first but it seemed like lots of moving parts. If you have never seen one before you ought to google it. Some people are pretty creative with that stuff. I have a 30 gallon plastic drum that I was going to use and I had and idea for a stand and everything. My rotary tool was too weak to cut it so i abandoned the idea and went with the bathtub.

Moisture is getting to be a problem so I bought a cheap dehumidifier but the bathroom is too big for it to be very effective. I figure it will work much better in the smaller volume of the grow tent. 3x3x7 is 63 cubic feet i think compared to 280 cubic feet of the bathroom. At around 72°F the rh in the bathroom is 80%. Small dehumidifier got it down to 72%, so it ought to work much better in the growtent.

You could try growing something besides mj in your box once you get your tent. I've seen people design their space buckets to grow things outside of their hardiness range or whatever. They would grow things like avacado or lemon. TSC9hIp-940x1427.jpg There is a picture of one. Kinda scary looking.
Cool thing about the design using the 5 gal buckets is that they can be stacked with the bottoms cut off, to get whatever height is needed.

Anyhoo, sorry for the long reply. Goodluck with your growing :smoking:

@Little Brother I did consider the space bucket when starting out! You're right, scary and complex

I loved the challenge of trying to build my own grow space. I will definitely keep it for plants other than canna - I have about 20 sweet pepper seedlings in the garden and I'd love to compare the growth for sun vs artificial light. Or perhaps for overwintering my bonsai and succulent collection.

Yeah, I like the overwintering idea. My other half has many plants that wouldn't last outside in the winter, so we got a warm and cold fluorescent style led bulb for them to sit under. It was crowded and they definitely suffered but they made it through. I'll have to come up with a better solution this winter.

CON DAY 40
Con seems to have LOVED the topping!
I've lost count how many new sites are forming, and the oldest ones are just goin nuts!

As you can see since the top I've been carefully training the stem down and round the rim of the pot. I wasn't happy with the overlap on the main fan leaves so with the help of skewers Con's getting maximum light usage.

My soil moisture sensors arrived last week and I've just connected it to my logger network. No more overwatering! :smoking:

Got a couple orders arriving next week. Stay tuned :pop:

CON DAY 47
Hi folks, happy day 47!
Con is chugging along shooting out new nodes left right & centre. I'm noticing an uptake in water consumption - the 300-400ml usually each time is getting sucked up in a day, so I will slowly increase. Nutes are at 3/4 strength now, and next time I fill my watering bottle will be full strength.
You can see the speed it drinks! (higher = dryer)

I've had a disappointing week, unfortunately. My fan filter kit finally arrived, but was missing some pH up control (not that my testing pen is accurate...really...) and my tent still hasn't been dispatched. I was going to change it for a larger tent, but seemed not worth the additional price, despite a little extra space.

I'm wondering, now that it has been >6 weeks, can I kick it into 12/12 light cycle and try and get it finished? I am concerned about leaving it in veg for too long and having to hack it back if the stretch is too great.
Some googling leads to 8 weeks left in this, just for flower - an estimated harvest date of 2nd August.

(also asking for advice about the pale edges of new growth - i know the water visible on the leaves is due to poor airflow, which will be resolved when the tent arrives)

To me, when trying to use this chart, there are always several that look like they could be the culprit... Magnesium? Potassium? Manganese? Zinc perhaps? lol sorry i'm not much help
Nothing wrong with the older leafs. Might be relevant.

no need to change light cycle, it'z an auto, remember-? :rolleyes2: ppp

@Little Brother Thanks for that! You're right, it does look like a lot of different issues. I'm thinking back to when I raised the pot and the leaves started doing this - perhaps too much light.

@420Forever You seem to be forgetting this is wildflower bagseed :smoking: dying to start the autos though!
