Self watering Tray2Grow experiment đź‘€

Day 52…I’ve been adding Big Bud for about 10-12 days, later in the week that will stop and I’ll be using the canna p/k for about a week.

Day 10…just like the above grow I’m amazed at the growth difference at 10 days when I feed them early and strong compared to treating them gently. Still hand feeding daily and for maybe another week before putting her in the autopot. EC 2.0 ph 5.8 DLI 40

Should roots pass through fabric grow bags ilke that? I presume protruding roots are a problem (with the bag's fabric). Isn't the idea here that the water/feed wicks up from the bottom pad/reservoir into the pot and you get air pruning, not that roots grow out of the pot?

I bottom/wick feed and otherwise never have roots growing out of my fabric pots. Are my, your or neither of our cloth pots deficient, not optimal?

Its because they are constantly wet, nothing to do with quality of bags. I have seen it on tons of wick systems and wet mats like this. Its just the roots going crazy because they are happy

Apparently air pruning only happens if food is not available to the tip that’s sticking out. In this case the lower roots popped out and came in contact with the mat and they kept on eating and invited the whole family. If a pots fabric is ok with you when the roots prune after sticking out, why wouldn’t they be ok in this situation? Would you prefer the roots be circling in the pot? I don’t understand your concern here.

Thanks @WildBill I forgot to add the shot of the roots, pretty badass in my opinion

I kind of figured that's what they look like with the growth that I'm seeing.
I'll see how well the Blumat deep 9 inch sensor with drip rings works in this next grow.
I'll be using the Ecowitt Deep and shallow moisture sensors tied into the gateway To monitor the moisture levels in those 15 gallon pots.

I'm definitely going to get that Tray2Grow. I'm going to be using the Grassroots Living Soil bed . I may or may not wait until the grow room built out in the shop. I don't think I'm going to be using smaller pots, unless I'm growing some autos. 10 gallons is the largest I can put in there using the Grassroots Living Soil bags.

With the bed I would more than likely just grow one girl for the entire 4x4 tent. Top her at least once and just use the netting to spread her out for training. Along with that under canopy lighting, it should be pretty interesting.
