Outdoor Seed and Breed Early Garden

The girls really took off while I was gone. NL is starting to bud nicely, Afghani is just starting to get the buds formed. Both are way taller than I thought they'd get with lots of branching. Hope that means big harvests :chimp:

My 2nd round of plants are off to a good start too. I'll have 6 different strains by the end of this season

Seedsman Pink Kush CBD Auto. Really excited to see how this one does under ideal sun.

Seedsman Dr. Seedsman 30:1 CBD Photo. Hoping this one stays about the same size as the autos based on the start time.

Seedsman Auto Lemon. Can't wait to smell this.

Seedsman Auto Blueberry. Looking forward to having a straight Blueberry strain again.

Lots of good stuff here (just read thru) a couple of thoughts. Like stated way earlier, when looking for a boy, pop as many as you can and cull down. Liked the one that had the color too it...

Once I've made a choice, that plant goes into the kitchen, where the air is fairly still until I feel it's close enough to cut and basically put in a vase with parchment paper down.

Then 1 female at a time, hand pollenate, when done, let sit for an hr or so and rinse before moving back with other plants.
If your growing in NorCal, don't flower out males outside. Your risking anyone else's garden within a mile and a half or so. Lot of people growing their meds outdoor.

Thanks for stopping by Arthur! I'm actually in Oregon, but there's a good chance of other outdoor grows near by.

Do you have a rough guess of what week you'd bring your male inside? I think that's where I'm struggling to figure out the timing. I could've let my make keep going and I'd probably have pollen now, but wasn't sure how long was too long etc.

Was hoping I had a photo or two but none at the right point.... I try and catch it before the first pods start opening. Given the plants aren't for smoking, they don't need the intense lighting, so males go to the kitchen early, not long after sexing. They're happy to sit on the table with light from the window.

Honestly, breeding and growing are the same, but different. Males and my pollinated females do not get the same fertz or light...I have heard high nute loads will cause a thicker shell too, I have no personal knowledge of this, but it kinda makes sence. So, seeded girls I don't feed or light like I do something for smoking. Current girl gets direct sun from about 9am to maybe 11, shaded on the edge of the porch from then on.

Top 2/3rds pollinated.

This is gold glue X sour stomper cross from last fall. Pollen donor was a male from autoflower portal.
Plan is to take F2 and cross back to my GGxSS. F3 back to GGxSS 6 generations and about 97% should be ggxss.
It's a good cross.

I think this is good advice from Arthur.

Once the pollen sacks show, it often is only a matter of days until they open.
Since they are grown at home, I'm guessing you can check them every day.

But you could easily just bring them straight inside once you know they're male.
Next to a bright window, even without direct sunshine, they'll still mature and open.
You're not looking for a huge pile of pollen, just a little goes a long way.
You can cut it with very dry flour (heat a tiny bit of flour in the oven, let it cool), to make it go further.

Thanks for all the feedback SM and Arthur, based on everyone's input and the other threads I've been reading I'll be ready to do this project properly next season :p

Right now I'm trying to get some seeds with the collidal silver method, and hope that I can stay on top of the applications for 2 weeks.

When you use real pollen is it a one-time application?
