New Grower Second attempt at autos

Oh ya, got a gift coming Thursday...but not sure what to do with it yet.

So question to AFN folks, when do you switch from veg to bloom nutes? I have two white widows showing sex for a few days and I am wondering if it is time to switch it up.

Thanks!

I don’t use Nutes, but Ido have some experience with FFHF soil. I have found that ur soil in 5 gal pots lasts 4-5 weeks.

Took a couple of pics today of the white widow.

Day 43 and all 7 are doing well. The two white widows in the same pot was a fun idea. One is big and one is small. Just like @Bob's Auto's said, one will be dominant and take all of the food.

FFHP soil in 5 gallon buckets
3 Giixer 1000watt led lights (cheap but has flower/veg options
2x northern lights (seedsman)
2x lemon (seedsman)
3x White Widow (Dutch passion)
nutes FF Grow Big and FF Big Bloom
Heat at 73F
R/h is at 35 - 40
Water ph is 6.2

Switch to bloom nutes once you see the flowers form little cotton balls. Otherwise yes, you will slow down the vertical growth. Vertical growth in bloom is also dependent on your bloom nutes and how much N it is contains. Most people switch too soon.

Cotton balls = something like this. Actually the day I switched this one to B nutes. My B nutes contain a good amount of N still though so she keeps going taller. Most of my plants will end up around 4' tall. Give or take.

@GreenBean , that is one good looking plant! Did you top it to get that many branches?

Hey @DetroitDarren . Thanks. That is a Brother Mendel Pina Kaleidoscope. I believe that she is 40 days old as of today. So a ways to go. But yes, it was topped. I don't really do much early LST any longer. I top them around the 5th node as soon as I can get my fingers in there to pinch the node off. Then defoliate as she goes. Once they start to show a bit of stretch I widen the canopy as much as I can with garden wire and grommets, without snapping them. Stole the grommet idea from the Rain Science grow bags and bought my own grommet kit to install on my own bags = much cheaper. When I stretch the canopy like that, the inner, taller branches move to the outer edge and the outer/smaller branches move inwards. This helps create an even canopy for me. It's a process that I find works best for me. I have found, the way I do things, that early LST does give "more" buds but not more weight and the stretch isn't as drastic. I like to get the plant taller and less buds but bigger, floppy buds. I feel like a given plant will give what it will give, and you can choose more smaller buds? Or less bigger buds? It's preference I suppose. I hate trimming too!

That doesn't mean every plant agrees with my decisions! I have a Walter White Mephisto that doesn't seem to like my growing style just yet. When that happens, I usually will just set those seeds aside, come back to them later, maybe try them outside. Or possibly try reversing them for pollen or whatever.

Anyway, here is the same plant as of this morning. Just a few days after the photo above. You can see she is still stretching and her upper canopy is evening out. If you notice, the two tallest colas on the right and left? Those are my 2 main colas from the topping. Stretching the canopy moved them to the outside and the smaller bud sites are now in the middle to absorb more light. And are catching up in height. Should turn out to be pretty beastly. Sorry for the ramble. :
