just to get things back on track though im gonna go through some of the trivial stuff for any new growers having a look in. will also allow me to copy and paste bits once im done and turn it into a proper, condensed grow guide : )

during the seedling phase my plants have 2 homes. firstly the root riot for a week then into a 4” grodan cube for another 1-2 weeks. getting this bit to go perfectly took me quite a few practice runs on spare seeds.

the knack to keeping them at full blast is to get it spot from the word go. from my experience its best if the seed goes into the root riot pointed side up and 10-15mm deep. any deeper and it might get stuck. not deep enough and the plant will sprout with the shell on as it will also most likely do if the seed isnt pointed side up.
next is keeping the medium at just the right dampness and ph. when theyre in the root riots i just spray the cubes with ph6 water for 3 days then 70ppm root boost once theyve settled. get them too wet and they wont grow properly. too dry and theyre not worth saving. i check them every 12 hours to make sure theyre in the sweet spot. if you want a plant to thrive for a week in a 1 inch cube then its a neccesary faff.

next step is cleaning the grodans. if you dont flush them properly the ph will spike uncontrollably and stunt your plants for a long time. its not nice. so.
get a few buckets of water and let all the chlorine out. check the ph of the water then put the grodans in to soak over night. in the morning, check the ph again and you’ll see how much shit is in the cubes. gently squeeze most of the water out the grodans and change the bucket. do this every day untill the water is the same ph the next day. takes 3-4 soaks with me. then give a final soak of nutrients at 170ppm 5.7ph and let to dry out under the lights for a day before transplanting the root riots into them. 5.7 is low but theyll jump up a little before levelling off.

i use ionic hydro grow and root boost for this stage. nothing else. they dont need calmag or that under the cfl. not for the few weeks i keep them there anyway. 100ppm ionic 70ppm root boost is plenty for now.

and as always, the cfl stays at 18-20cm from the plants. im gonna be doing some topping so dont want them stretching too much till ive got that handled.

well, day 4 now and everythings going perfectly so far. very little vertical growth and lots of tap roots forming. leaves are a little yellow but its because i keep the light literally 1-2cm away from the burning point to keep them stumpy and focus on the roots. all going as planned : ) this is why i fuck about with 1” cubes for a week. why plant a plant with 1 tap root when i can have 40 tap roots : ) by the time it goes into the hydro system in just under a fortnight there will be literally hundreds of them waiting to furiously burst out in search of food. a lot of people think this just adds a fortnight onto the grow time but the plants at 2 weeks are the same size if not bigger and a couple days after transplant to nft they start growing at an incredible speed as theyve got a full root structure bursting out in every direction instead of 1 root that had an easy life and just took its time. my glueberry in the middle also seems to be slightly ahead in the root count so im very happy indeed : )

oohh is that what you do? never thought of that before. sounds sensible though. better air supply to the vital point and it’ll dry out quicker : ) good thinkin batman. :d5:

Aye bud. Not so much that the root riot will fall through but enough to pack around the square block in a round hole at the top.

thanks for the tip mate ill give it a bash. always annoys me putting the circle into the square. i get worried about the exposed roots at the sides drying out. its never happened but you cant put a price on peace of mind eh : ) :pass: got something decent to pass back today for a change too.
2 fast 2 vast by heavyweight seeds. pretty good shit like. massive yielder aswell : )
