sorry to be clear he uses 50/50 LW with ocean he says it balances it out and prevents burning

FooManBlue is right. Cut it with HF or LW. I used OF and LW at equal parts and having good results right now. I hear 2:1 ratio of OF:LW is good. Ocean Forest needs liming too as it comes out of the bag at 5.5. I add 1TSP per gallon. I have tried straight OF out iof the bag and burned them all tio hell. Also I flush at 4 weeks because of salt build-up with OF.

More fantastic advice. Forgot to mention this myself, above. Several of us have found the FFOF to have very low soil ph (5.20 - 5.5) right out of the gate. Treating your mix with powdered dolomite lime will buffer the soil, hopefully bringing the ph back up to the 6.5 target before you put your plants into it. While my plants are doing well, I have struggled with this on my current grow. Probably the biggest lesson (mistake I made) so far in my first grow is to prepare my final pots several weeks in advance, mix some powdered dolomite lime in with the FFOF (and FFLW), water it, and let it cook for a few weeks while monitoring the soil ph until it gets back up to 6.5.

I wonder if fox farms gets every batch mixed properly. It sounds like it to me because some people have problems with burning seedlings yet I have used for a few years now and haven't had the first problem. Well I have had the problem of plants getting too big in it lol but that's a good thing. I make sure mine never dries out too much during seedling stage. I think that might be where some people have problems with it. Letting it get too dry. I currently have 9 seedlings in straight ffof and they all look great. Edit... I meant to say maybe they don't get it mixed properly.

Looks like I can snag FFOF locally, haven't found HF or LW yet. Same ph problems even with a mix? Either way I too will premix and monitor that ph, since crazy ph problems made my first grow a pretty small plant. Hate to order HF or LW since the shipping cost more than the product! lol

Great advice form the previous posters. You will absoloutly want to add some lime to the OF if you dont run into PH problems at first you will at the end. I grew out 5 Easy Ryder in 3 gal of straight OF and it was great until the last couple weeks for some reason the soil starts breaking down late a goes a little crazy. Thats one reason i am trying out Happy Frog for my HBD. I have two photo plants vegging too and the OF burned my Mazar Kush but my OG 13 is doing just fine. You will want to add some perlite to it as well it tends to hold water a little too well. I dont think you will be disappointed just go easy on the nutes as its loaded up pretty good for the first 3 weeks - a month.

Be sure to use a lot of perlite. Ffof is mucky. Let it get pretty dry between waterings. It's easy to overwater with this stuff. Which I've done a few times. I rec a flushing after 3-4 weeks.

Oh and I lime mine at 1TSP/Gal and I get a soil of 6.5. I hear a lot of people say to add 1-2TBSP/Gal. I have tried their method and get a 7.0pH. Is this what people want? Maybe water around 6.3 and let it drift back up @ 7.0 going through the whole propper pH range? Or is soil @ 6.5 and water at 6.5 best?

I didn't mean to type pretty much what you just said. We were typing same thing at the same time. Ha. That's twice this week that's happened to me.
