New Grower ORGANIC SOIL MIXES

Also, here is a great link to help you learn how to read your plants better and figure out what they need.. sometimes they just need a tsp of Epsom Salt into a gal of water... use this to plain water between feedings. some strains are Calcium hogs.. lol

I have been using the Go Box for years.

It's intended to be used with soil and that has no nutes, but I've always used potting soil that has nutes.
If there are nutes, you hardly use the two big bottles at all.

There's a number of good brands, and prob some local mixes that would also be good. Most will be better than MG.

What does your local grow store have? Pro-Mix has a good rep, haven't tried it. I am using Roots Original now, and it's good, but not ideal.
I've heard that their other potting soils are better. I've used and liked Dr Earth Home Grown (only the Home Grown, which is the top of their line)
but it's a little expensive, and I'd put it in a middle tier with Roots Original, better than MG, perhaps not as good as the others.

I add perlite to any mix I use (although some already have excellent drainage).

And there are a ton of recipes, both here and across the net, for making your own potting soil. If you are using a Go Box, you aren't growing a lot of plants, so maybe a recipe for 100 pounds of potting soil is overkill at this stage.

Start nutes at 1/4 dose. The exceptions to that are the seaweed, humic and cal/mag, where you want to start at 1/2 dose.

Some plants like to nibble gently at nutes, others are like a starving man at a buffet.
You will have to watch the plant and let it tell you what it wants.

Learn about burn (and other problems, esp. overwatering) and watch for them. A little burn is not bad, but shocking the plant is not at all what you want. I try to avoid burn completely. Think like a gardener, everything they need, but nothing more.
So basically I can use an organic soil with no nutes or fertilizers?

I think he's referring to using an organic soil that has no nutes in it to start. For example, many will recommend Happy Frog over Ocean Forest as far as the Fox Farms soils go, because the Ocean Forest already has heavier nute content to start. Of course, you could probably find some that prefer that soil for exactly the same reason.

It is possible to get into organic soils that you give only plain water to and plants get all their nutrients from the soil, but those usually take a bit of planning and a couple months of "cooking" the soil to get them ready to go. If you want to read up on them, check out the sticky threads on TLO or "Super Soil" over in the organics section. The only I've seen personally along those lines that's ready to go "out of the bag" is one called Kind Soil that a few guys are running grows with. Shipping on it can get pricey fast, though.

I've been watering until I have very little run off at the bottom. sort to ask but cannabis slang is like a diff language to me IMO? What do you think about the brown spots Cal mag deficiency? What do you suggest I do? Thanks

looking at them they deffo been robbed of H20 a few times or possibly constant,my advice here is to get a bucket of tepid water say about 25 add 1 ml of cal/ mag per litre water nothing else and water in a little at a time, say slowly pour on 200 ml then repeat 5 mins later then again 5 mins later until u get a bit of run off, then leave them sit for 20 mins in it they should suck it all up,DONT POUR TO MUCH ON IN ONE HIT because that medium is well over dry,it will not soak in only run straight off,and tbh u have to many dry pockets by now to truely recover these,so take this as a learning curve, btw make sure your PH is within range of the water,i find 6.5 a good allrounder but u may want to run yours slightly lower say 6.2. heres the cal /mag i use its pretty forgiving on the plants,,,,,ooooh btw cal / mag every watering reducing to .5 ml litre in deep bloom......but your issues are mainly watering related imho :hookah:

but monitor the plants daily,i grow with my eyes not charts ....be aware of the cal/mag it can play fuck in bloom !!!
