Organic S.I.P.s & COBs - Speed Bud & Dark Devil XL

Thanks, @HomeGrownCanna, I used the same setup last time, covering my bucket with plastic bags works for the fungus knats, but this time I waited until the seed sprouted to cover bucket, and it was to late, they are allover the place in 27" x 27" tent, every nite I vacumm out like 100 of them but the next nite 100 MORE cant win with these bugs!!

I think that's where my problem started too. I waited for the seeds to sprout and stretch a little before covering with perlite. Now they're there and don't want to leave. Other than the freeloaders how are you liking your SIPs so far? This is my first real round with them.

Happy New Year guys! Hope everyone had a good time, I know I definitely did. Here are a couple of the Speed Buds at Day 56. Flowers are coming in nicely, some are already showing the dense swelling I really liked this strain for last round. The Dark Devils are doing alright, leaves are showing some deficiencies that in organic I'm not really sure how to clear up so I've just been feeding as normal as they don't seem unhealthy or stunted. Got some BioAG TM-7 that I think might help.

I tried lowering the Optic 6 COBs down slowly below the 28" range but my girls didn't like it. Got purple stems, light green centers and shrunken leaves pretty fast despite a slow approach. I raised them back up to 30" but after about 2 weeks still haven't gotten green stems again, however they're all drinking like crazy. One has said "fuck it" and grown itself to 23" away with and still looks good.

The plants under the Vero29 are all still green and happy and drinking slower so I'm sure it's the intensity of the Optic since I had a similar problem last round. Couldn't get them closer than 26" without crazy deficiencies and leaf damage. It looks like I need more food than is being broken down by the food web to keep up with these lights. Adding Calcium to my teas seems to help. I added Recharge to my routine too hoping to increase the breakdown rate but that hasn't seem to cut it. I also tried brewing a tea with some of my leftover Emerald Harvest nutrients as I've heard some great COB growers mention they weren't getting enough food for the COBs with just organics and had to supplement, but they still look hungry.

Anyone have any recommendations to deal with this? I'm really scratching my head here.

My sip, is SoSo, I find myself top watering once a week, I don't have the right stuff to wick, I'm using Growstones in my sip cup Only, last sip, I used the same stones but hade pot sitting on stones directly, and they work well, but in a sip bucket my stones ARE not working for me, need a good mix that will work with my soil, I understand that peat moss does the trick, but I would need to have peat moss in my mix Right? Not sure, watching you and trying to get it together. Thanks, for asking..
Your look very nice!

Sphagnum peat moss is pretty good. I plan on using it for my next round since it has good aeration naturally so I can use less perlite. Think I went through 2 1/2 large bags for this. With any medium you use for sips you just need really good aeration for airflow and to prevent root rot. I use perlite in my wick cups and it works fine so I think your growstones should wick similar. What kind of soil mix are you using?

So far I've found that the most important thing with sips is: the aeration level of your medium, the transfer capacity of your wick, and the one inch air gap between your pot and reservoir. If any of those 3 aren't right it won't function properly.

Nice mix you've got going there man! :d5: With enough Coco Coir & Growstones you should have plenty of airflow through that soil. I really wouldn't use anything organic for the wick though. You don't want any organic matter just sitting in your res like that, it's going to get really smelly, trust me. Mixed a couple of wick cups with like 90/10 perlite+soil to test something Dr. Elaine Ingham was claiming about waters transfer rate from different textures and the soil just slowly runs out into the res and the water starts to stink after a few days. I've been putting pond enzymes once a week to keep the bad bacteria and smell away and the plants with them are still drinking fine though. The ones with pure perlite are much cleaner............besides the @#!%^&* gnats

Just a small update and some bud porn. Plants are blooming and happy. I spent about two weeks thinking I might've stressed my girls under the Optics out trying to push them closer but I guess I had nothing to worry about:smoking: Speed Buds are looking and smelling amazing. They're getting super dense which is my favorite part, touching sticky rocks. Going to push them till they get purple capped again. Showing some Cal def leaf damage but I think that's just a consequence of the Optics, definitely less than last round. I've been brewing all my teas with added Cal, foliar spraying Protekt, and keeping the leaf temps between 71-75 so I think that's been a big help. I don't know if brewing a couple teas with my leftover nutes and EWC helped, but it didn't seem hurt.....at least the Speed Buds lol. Some Dark Devils are showing some deficient leaves that I was stumped on at first but I think could've been from my stronger teas. Still looking dark and lovely.

Top dressed in some EB Stone Ultra Bloom again this week with some added Neem. Did some trimming to remove all popcorn nugs and make sure all bud sites are exposed, raised the lights a bit to let them recover smoothly. Topped off a quarter of the res' and trimmed up my Cheeses in the second garden so it looks like I won't be needed for a few days.

Got some great fall colors happening in the garden right now. Thought I'd post up some picks. Speed Bud are getting the same purple tinted tops I saw last round, but it happened about two weeks earlier this time. Last run it happened right at the end when most of the fan leaves were yellow. Still a lot of green leaves going on right now, some turning purple which is new. Just started noticing some yellowing ones over the weekend. Fed and sprayed an Alfalfa, Barely, Frass, and Recharge tea on Saturday brewed with Cal, added Protekt for the foliar . Going to back it down to a weekly tea here toward the end instead of bi-weekly

Moved one Dark Devil from under the Vero29 to the Optic a few weeks ago and since then it's swelled up, been slowing turning an even dark purple and I've been slowly falling in love:drool:
This is my first time getting purple fan leaves on any strain. Considering switching back to photos this year after this round but I think I'll keep a place to run some more of this to see what I can with it. Expect to start cutting some of these plants down this week or next. Drinking from the reservoirs has slowed down. Temps are 72- 75 with 55-60% humidity.

Speed Bud Day 70. Proud of how much better my leaf health is this round under the COBs. Happy I found that tip about adding Silica to the foliar

Purpling Speed Bud fan leaves. Could be the cold, could be that TM-7, either way I'm happy.

Day 75 and it's time to start chopping some of these girls down! Cut down 5 last night, trimmed them a bit, gave them a 3 bucket wash and now they're hanging to dry for a final trim tonight or tomorrow. See plenty of dense nugs I can't wait to smoke. :pass:Will have some weights coming in soon. Fed my least tea of EWC, E.B Stone Ultra Bloom Food, and Frass to the stragglers. They're all coming down next week, no exceptions.

Another bushy Speed Bud, wanted to push this one another week for more purple but there was slight browning from the bottom. Love this plants structures and density. Even the plants that don't get tall get really thick, hard colas

A quick update before I cut and wash the last of them tonight. Going to be a lot of Netflix and trimming this weekend haha. Weighing per plant so I can have a better idea how I did this time..

The Speed Buds are coming out pretty good. Some of the highest weighed in at 93.3g, 71g, and 65.2g, with lowest at 32.9g and 30.9g. Can't wait to tally the rest, got a couple of monsters in there I think will beat out these current numbers.

Only a few Devils down so far at 35.4g and 18.2g. Over a lb total so far.
