Organic S.I.P.s & COBs - Speed Bud & Dark Devil XL

What exactly does the tube achieve. Is that where you water?

What exactly does the tube achieve. Is that where you water?

Yea. The water goes down that pipe into the lower reservoir until it hits the drain holes and absorbed into the top bucket by the wick pot

Noticed the SIPs got waterlogged so I dumped all the res', guess that's why I was seeing slower growth than I planned. Since last weekend I've just been handwatering some EWC extract with fulvic every 3 - 4 days until they get bigger and can handle the wicks. The growths been back on track. Topped all the Speed Buds last Monday, and the Devils over the weekend.

Topping the Devils was a tough choice since many of them had a lot of lateral node stacking and not much outward branching, even the taller ones, but I figured I'd just go with it and keep loving them and see what happens. A couple have already started branching out fast and filling in since the topping so just have to wait and see. At the advice of Nelson Lindsley on a podcast I got an infrared thermometer to keep track of my leaf temps. Keeping it in the range he suggest my room temps are a lot lower than I was running last round, but the plants don't seem to mind. Room is 72 - 74 degrees, leaf temps are 70-75, and the soil temps are 75 - 78. Don't even need that space heater I bought for the winter lol.

Unfortunately I found what looks like fungus gnat larvae in the bottom res of the older Speed Bud SIP. Thought it was just silica flakes till it jumped off my hand. Checked the rest of the room and everyone seems to be ok. Been keeping a pretty good 3 day rotation of sprays. Cutting her down today just to be safe.

12 Days till Christmas and I still haven't done any xmas shopping. Oh well. Hope everyone on my list likes frosty bud lol. Hate that I can't update here more often but I work a full time and after hours of traffic it's gym and garden time, so I unless there's a plant or laptop in front of me I'm rarely sitting still, so excuse the update dump haha.

Picked up a small radiator heater last month that's been keeping the rooms a steady 72F- 76F. Anyone else like growing this time of the year? Bought a Honeywell humidifier off someone for $25 to play with the plants VPD rate. Humidity was 50 - 55%, as low as 45% on a few colder days. Pushing it now to 60-65%. Going to keep notes and see how they like it. My hope is a higher VPD will help the SIPs wick better and the plants access more nutrients to keep up with increased photosynthesis of the OPTICs. I top dressed in 2Tbsp of E.B. Stone All Purpose 2 weeks ago after seeing purple steams, yellow centers, and yellow new growth. Since I was only top feeding 2Cups of teas every 3 - 5 days I'm not sure how well they accessed it. Tried to water over where the fertilizer was scratched in. Does that even help? lol. Not even sure if the 8Tbsp I added on transplanting is all gone:crying: This is so different from bottled nutes buuuuut I like it. Did notice the stems and centers green back up over a week, lower new growth stayed yellow and dry. Was keeping the Optic COBs at 36", lowered them to 30" this week since I was seeing light green centers and some stretching nodes but no other serious signs deficiencies that might be from the LEDs. Keeping a very close eye on that this round. Goal is to run these guys much closer. The bushiest plants are under the LEDs, but the 6 under the 600W HPS had the happiest, vibrant looking leaves. Been monitoring leaf surface temps and they're 70-75.

Bad news, I got fungus gnats. Was hoping the problem was just isolated to that 1 SIP. According to my sticky traps it was not, oh well. Been doing a 3-4 day rotation of Captin Jacks, Neem Oil, and EWC spray from the beginning but I guess it couldn't stave them off. Added Neem meal to my last tea and watered that in, rebrewed then sprayed, noticed them buzzing around immediately. Got a Neem/Kelp/Alfalfa tea brewing right now for tonight. Part to help with the bastards, part to help with what I think is a potassium and magnesium deficiency.

Added water back to the lower res of all but the smallest plants on Monday morning. The darker lower line is where they were this morning. Big improvement from the last try. Now I know to wait longer before relying on the wick. Happy to see teas paid off. I'm really liking this method. After top watering the tea I set the bag in water again and brew for another 8 - 12hrs and use that as a foliar.

Speed Buds under Optic 6 COB. The Speed Buds are doing good. Recovered from the overwatering pretty fast, took well to the topping and LST, pistils and buds coming but still giving very veg like growth. Liked this strain last round and I like it this round too, can't wait for those fatty dense nugs again.

The Dark Devils honestly are looking like crap. Quite a few are still small, some with hooked leaves, most did not like the topping, and they seem to firm in flower with stiff stems and slow growth. Might kill the weakest to thin out the room and make space. 3 are doing great with nice structure, noticed some odd stretching that's why I think I may have a K def. All are turning a lovely black that is slowly tempting me to give them another chance.

Finally weighed my harvest from the ladies that finished that last round under the Optics and T5.

15 Speed Bud - 321g. can't stop sniffing the jar, smells amazing. Some pretty small, I'd say between a quarter to a half oz, so I think the ones that got big really packed it on. Very fruity, tangy smell, strong relaxed high.
4 NYCD - 57.8g:shrug: bud looks great and might be my favorite to smoke, not growing again tho. Second round and had lots of stunting a deficiency problems again.

1 Acapulco Gold - 25.6g first weed I've grown where I don't like the smell lol. First time I opened the jar I was worried, but my friend I grew it for loved it. High is intense.

These Cheese autos are obviously more photo dominate and the whole reason I built the Vero COB was so I wouldn't be as crowded this round so I'm kicking them out. Set up my 6x6x6 tent and set them to flower under the 600W HPS cause I didn't feed them for nothing. Just when my bf thought things were ramping down:rofl:

These did most of their growing under the OPTIC 6s and have spent the last month lightly ignored under the Vero29.

just feeding low doses of nutes and calcium and giving them what's left over from the teas and foliar.

@HomeGrownCanna, looking SWEET! Nice job.
I also, have been fighting these Nasty Bugs, I'm doing sip, and cover my bucket with black plastic bags, and use composted wood bark Mulch, anyway, I decided to top feed today and when I removed the bag and turned one of the pieces of wood over and found this!!!
Do you happen to know if this is A good thing or NOT! Thanks,

Sorry I missed your post bud. Big ups to @hecno for the great reply. Yea that's some good fungi growth. From my simple understanding small and fuzzy= good, long and fibrous= bad. Not sure if that's right totally right. The fungus gnats are the a real nuance with this method that I haven't had to deal with before. Still hitting them with the neem tea and this week as I top dress in more Bloom food I'm dressing in some neem meal as well.

Thanks, @HomeGrownCanna, I used the same setup last time, covering my bucket with plastic bags works for the fungus knats, but this time I waited until the seed sprouted to cover bucket, and it was to late, they are allover the place in 27" x 27" tent, every nite I vacumm out like 100 of them but the next nite 100 MORE cant win with these bugs!!
