What's up everyone? I decided to document my trials and tribulations as I attempt to turn our old storage shed into a climate controlled grow room. I'm in the beginning stages as you can see, but I've got a pretty good idea of the direction I'll be going with this project. There is an old thread started by "Bud Wiser UK", that shows exactly what it takes to get something like this done, so that's given me some inspiration. Currently I'm taking all the junk out and finding another home for the valuable items. I'm planning to have it empty in the next week or so, and at that point it'll be time to clean, clean, clean and clean again. Updates in the coming days!

Subbed..

Growing in a shed can be a daunting experience.. I have been doing so for about 5 years now. It took a great amount of effort, constant learning and adapting. But it can be done if your willing and able to do whats necessary.

If I may.. after emptying the shed put a bright light inside and go outside to find all your light leaks. Silicone all the gaps, eliminate drafts and critter entrance. You will need to insulate... a roof without snow will be a dead giveaway.

How is security, is the shed away from neighbor eyes and nose?

Insulate Insulate Insulate and get a good exterior white paint to paint the walls and floors remember to use a white that is flat not glossy it reflects more light

I actually used a elastomeric roof coat that was 94% light reflection rated and it also is fully water proof
If you have questions feel free to ask i will help where i can. I am turning my 12 x 24 shed into 2 grow rooms and a drying room

You need to insulate heavily. Not only against cold but against heat as well. Of course humidity will be an extra factor to calculate for the insulation.
Also you need to have a very strict pest control policy. Repair the walls and doors/windows to avoid pest invasions. Regularly sterilise and use pesticides.
Odour control has to be more effective that in a tent environment.
You must block all visual access to the interior and also control light leaks both from inside and outside.
Repair if not redo your electricity and water supply infrastructures. You need efficiency and also provide safety, all kinds of accidents can happen.
Get your family's approval and ensure their silence.

What's up everyone? I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made since my last post. After I found a home for everything inside the shed and swept the floor (hard to believe I know), I took the ceiling panels down nail by nail in order to unveil years worth of squirrel shit and bird nests. The dust on everything is some of what fell down when I took the plywood ceiling down. Now the worst is over with and I can focus on the things you all mentioned. I'm located in New England, so i'll definitely be investing some good insulation with all the temp swings we have here. As of now my plan is to use foam board insulation with a high R-value, and then on the outside of that put some of this over it ---> https://www.homedepot.com/p/Reflect...-Reflective-Insulation-Roll-BP48100/202092205 . Could I get away with not putting up drywall if I put that reflective insulation on all the walls and ceiling?

@Gone Camping I'm definitely up for the challenge. Having this amount of space would change everything for me so i'm committed to making it happen. What kind of insulation did you use for your setup? Luckily my family is on board with the project, and we live in the woods far away from our closest neighbor. You also can't see the shed from my driveway or main entrance, so overall security is solid. Thanks for the advice and you'll probably be getting a few more questions from me along the way.

@420Forever Thanks alot! Happy to be here. I'm definitely excited to see where this project goes.

@THC Farms What did you use for insulation?

@niceneasy Are you in a pretty warm climate? I definitely couldn't get away with that here. I think the way I'll deal with the temp and humidity is a mini split AC unit as well as insulation

@Kinezokyprios Family is on board so that's not a problem. I'll be repairing and boarding up the windows for sure and will be replacing the door with a nice exterior door made for a house. I'd like to think that after I seal everything up and give an initial insecticide and fungicide treatment, I should be able to deal with any pests with homemade pesticides and beneficial insects just like I do now. What kind of insulation have you had luck with?

No, I wish. I'm on England, North -currently below freezing.

If you can do AC & insulation, then you are already well beyond my skills.

@802trichomes I used regular craft paper backed r15 insulation but I am southern oklahoma so don't need much for winter. My next building will have 4" metal insulated panels like refrigerated warehouse buildings are made of.
