The List Of Shit you Really should have, bite the bullet and do it right the first time. Its not that much more expensive and you will be happy you did it this way.

I am growing in a small apt closet tent- so im going to write up how im doing it.

Growing Area:

A tent that fits in the area you want to grow in.
a Inline fan that CFM rate will remove all the air in the tent 2-3 times a minute.
If possible - go with a slightly larger fan than needed to underclock it with a speed controller. This will REALLY help with reducing the sound from it.

I am going to assume you are a new grower, and likely are going to grow in a closet space.
YES - A good Carbon filter like from Phresh - WILL keep the house smelling Clean. Ive had my landlord over multi times inside my room where the closet grow is. ( they were fixing some things )

Make sure the Carbon Filter CFM Rating matches the fan. Do NOT cheap out on a filter.
I am using a 4x4x2 tent and i can fit 3-4 autoflowers in 3 gallon buckets inside of it. Its tight but it gets the job done. 3 autoflowers plants fit in there VERY well.

Parts List
  • A Indoor Grow Tent
  • Inline Fan (400CFM)
  • Carbon Filter (400CFM)
  • Ducting Hose (6in 10-20Feet)
  • 4x 3 Gallon Buckets or Fabric Pots
  • Speed Controller for a Inline Fan
  • Surge protector power strip
  • 2 Extension cords 10ft
  • Duct Muffler ( optional )
  • Humanity/Temperature gauge
  • Ducting Tape
  • Fire alarm
  • fire extinguisher ( seriously, dont burn your house down while you dail in the system)

Lighting:

OMG please dont go with 125watt/250watt CFL bulbs - doonttttttttttttt do it.

They still will raise the temp of the grow room by a decent amount. HPS will be slightly higher temps but the amount of Light they output for the SAME COST OF ELECTRICITY is way better. Trust me, you will want 30,000+ Lums for a 4x4x2 tent.

250 Watt Ballast are fairly cheap - and so are the blubs. You can get a 250 watt setup for around 120 dollars. Im only keeping my CFL setup as a backup, otherwise id just toss that $100 dollar 250watt CFL setup in the trash. Its that worthless.

The Fancy rope ratchet hangers for lights are night and all - but for a closet space area ive found myself using Simple flat buckle straps.

a Simple reflector will be fine for this setup.
I wouldnt bother with aircool the lights unless you live in a very warm area. Air going over the blub like that will cool it, and output less light. But the grow area will be cooler, just depends on climate.

Depending where you live, you may need a SMALL a/c unit in your room if you dont have Central air.
You might need a dehumidifier, you might need a humidifier, I dont know.
This is where you get to "dail" the system in to get the temps/humidity you want.

Some food for thought...
The speed controller I prefer and really like a lot is called a Varic controller. Incredible incremental adjustments, zero vibration. Probably my favorite piece of equipment. I have two of them. As for an inline fan, my fans cfm rating is always less than the carbon filter. When you start connecting a timer and the such, just make sure that it can handle the amps you will be pushing.

I'm starting my first ever closet grow in a 30 x 18 x 36 tent. I wasn't sure if it would be tall enough but your recommendation of a 4x4x2 confirmed that it is tall enough I guess.

My question is how many autos do you think would be optimal for a 30 x 18 x 36 tent? And which strains to deal with the lack of height in the tent (I prefer Sativa effect)

Thanks
