Dutch Passion Newbie Lowish Cost Low Tech DP TD and ABB Grow

So, it's been another week, during the week I picked up a cheap PPM pen, 15 bucks from amazon. On Thurdsay I noticed the largest plant, the blueberry was looking kinda sad, so I checked the PPM on all 4 plants, I found the smallest plant was near 850ppm and happy, the, the middle two plants were both at roughly 820 and relatively happy. The Blueberry was down to 710, So I added another 1ml/l of a and b to the blueberry, taking it back up to roughly 900ppm. Today before changing the reservoirs I checked the PPM again, with the smallest at 830, the next at 800, the largest TD at 760, and the Blueberry down to 740. So, as far as I can tell smallest and healthiest looking TD is slightly underfed, the other two are underfed, and the blueberry will eat as much as it can get.

Think Different Smallest to largest.

This time the Blueberry and the two larger Think Differents are getting a stronger reservoir, surpassing the recommended feeding of 4ML/L with the following.

5ML/L SensiGrow A
5ML/L SensiGrow B
2.5ML/L B-52
2ML/L SensiZym

This put the total PPM at 1200PPM or roughly 1.7 EC

The small Think Different that was reasonably happy with the old nutrient level is getting a slightly weaker reservoir with the following.

4ML/L SensiGrow A
4ML/L SensiGrow B
2ML/L B-52
2ML/L SensiZym

The PPM for this reservoir ended up at roughly 920ppm or roughly 1.3 EC

Here's a couple group shots, I added a T5 I had laying around to the side of the Blueberry.

So, it's been about 6 hours since the reservoir changes, the plants look healthy with no negative effects from the stronger reservoirs, see ya next week!

Look good and healthy mate..:bong:

Day 24

So, now that I have a PPM pen I can somewhat monitor the plants, so I think I'll be switching to Bi-weekly updates at this point since half way through the reservoir seems like a good point to make adjustments.

The next morning after changing the reservoirs I checked on the plants before work and they looked amazing, more alive than ever. Things have been going well, all of the plants have made significant gains in size. Tonight I checked the PPM, The three larger plants had went up to 1400PPM or 2.0 EC roughly from their starting point of 1200/1.7. The smallest plant has moved up to 1200PPM or 1.7EC from it's original starting point of 920/1.3. So, I've overfed them a bit, there's only two burnt leaves in the group, otherwise everything looks great so I guess it's not too bad. They all would have probably been ok with 1ML/L less of the base nutrients. So, I topped off the reservoirs with RO water, dropping the nutrients down a bit lower than where they started at Tuesday. With the current results I'm thinking I'll stick with the same strength in next reservoir change in a few days.

Also, I've gotten the carbon filter, I've yet to figure out where to mount it, I presently have it sitting next to the plants blowing upwards.

Those of you that grow ABB and TD, I know from other grows that now I'd be starting to transition feed if I was using three part nutrients, but with the 2 part what week do you switch from grow to bloom?

Hey Wombat Jenkins, I don't want to teach you, but go and buy something for ph tests (drops, cheap ph pen amazon, strips,... you got the idea). It should not cost a lot, but at least you will be able to measure, even if it will be not accurate....And you already saw that ppm is jumping (even when they claim ph/ppm perfect) same can happen with ph. In DWC mesurements is a must! Ph perfect is good thing, but there are some exceptions when it doesn't work (ME*), and ph can go up to 7! You are using RO water right? , my plants are mature (almost done) and the maximum I was able to push them was 1.7 ec (no background ec counted ((RO))
:2cents:

You are doing great work and don't take my words as discouraging I really want that your experiment will succeed

:slap:

* already fixed

Wombat, as far as when to switch over its really depends on you and the plants, you could probably switch now and it might slow down the preflower stretch phase, but she'll still yield well, with the ABB I noticed that there was a big drop in pH and after seeing that a couple of days in a row I switched over to the Bloom nutes, she was ready and she told me. hope that helps

Day 28

Things have been pretty busy around here, so just a quick update. The plants look great, the Blueberry is up to 24 inches or 60cm, two of the TD's are at 18" or 45cm, and the small TD is at 15 inches or 38cm. I definitely overfed the plants last week based on the ppm/ec readings and slight yellowing of the leaf tips, but there weren't really any noticeable detrimental effects. So, I've been keeping the reservoirs topped off with RO water to keep the ppm/ec from rising to damaging levels. At this point the reservoirs are starting to stabilize, so I've held off on changing the reservoirs since the nutrient level is still sufficient and the plants are thriving. My plan now is to keep these reservoirs going until the ppm starts to drop, then I'll switch them over to flowering nutrients.

Wombat jenks , looking very nice at the mid to end of veg stage etc......i notice from the threads above, your nute regime in 20ltrs,

5ML/L SensiGrow A
5ML/L SensiGrow B
2.5ML/L B-52
2ML/L SensiZym

Should some of this be "Cal/Mag" Buffer for RO water Jenks ??...........only some of the guys, inc S-B, when switching to flower nute, suffer cal/mag def, on some occasion, especially with RO as you remove all "calcium" buffer from water with RO etc.........this leads to cal/mag def in ABB. I would advise adding cal/mag into your regime jenks,...before the prob arises etc........The rule with cal/mag, when adding to a fresh res is to add and leave for 15-20 mins for ph to stabilize Quote "Seymour Buds"........then add nutes after, this make cal/mag fully available for biological uptake..!!........check this out Jenks my friend........AB..................:scope:

Thanks for the tip AB, I'll add that into my shopping list this week!

Day 35

So, it's been another week and it's now day 35. Not a whole lot new to report, the plants are doing well, pretty much outgrowing the space they're in. Making reservoir changes fairly difficult, and individual pictures just about impossible.

This has been a two week reservoir due to overfeeding the plants, over the last few days the PPM finally started falling indicating they were actually using more nutrients than the water had to offer.

We're pretty much at the end of week 5, so last night I changed the reservoirs, switching from SensiGrow to Connoisseur, and from MH to HPS. The small TD has more or less caught up to the others, so I fed all of the plants the same nutrients this time:

4ML/L Connoisseur A
4ML/L Connoisseur B
2ML/L SensiZym

Which put the PPM at 1200, or 1.7EC

I ran out of B52, and my local grow store was also out, but, with just this it's at the same ppm as previous reservoirs with more added. Guess you do get something for the extra money Connoisser costs. As far as cal/mag, I'm not seeing any deficiencies so far, and AN claims its not needed because the ph perfect line is designed for RO water.

Anyone have any opinions on the various bloom boosters they offer(bud ignitor, bud candy, bud factor, etc)?

Anyways, here's a few pics, I've raised my light as far as it will go since the blueberry won't stop growing, and they're more of a group shot since the plants don't have enough airline to move out on their own for pictures, I'll have to work on that so res changes aren't so difficult.
