After two summertime outside grows, I have decided to start an indoor led grow for the first time. I am pretty well decided on some of the basic equipment, but I have a couple of questions that may determine success or failure. The first is I am planning on putting my grow tent in my cellar. Right now the the temp. in my basement is about 55 to 60 degrees F. Is that too cold? I know LEDs run cool and have fans, but will the tent insulate my plants? The other question is i plan on getting a Mars 2 hydro 400 to light a 3.5x4 tent. How many plants can I grow in that size tent? I would be grateful for any and all advice.

The tent will insulate your plants, how much though I can't tell. For about two weeks the temperature outside my tent early during my current grow was at 32-40 degrees F. It meant I ran lights 2 x 250 w CFL 24/0 and had no extraction. Doing this kept the temperature inside my tent above 60 degrees F. If your plants themselves are below 60 degrees F I think it may slow growth or change growth, but it wont damage plants.

That probably clarifies very little for you! Good luck.

Thanks Gardener, that is a relief! My cellar is the only logical place in my home for a set up. Just one more question, can I squeeze two plants into a tent roughly 3.5 x 3.5 With a 400 w led? Thanks again.

Yeah, you might even be able to squeeze 4 autos in there, maybe more someday with more light. Although I'd say go for 2 and work them big, versus more smaller plants cramped. :)

Hi Philip try setting it all up and running then you can judge how often to extract i have had mine running all winter in similar circumstances and have done well so go with it bro adapt and overcome

Is that 3.5 foot so 1m x 1m?

Mines 0.7m x 0.7 m and 4 autos is fine but tight, it'll be strain dependent............ I haven't grown super-autos for example and if I ever did photos in there it'd be two or one beast. You can find some very controllable girls.

I go by pot sizes, my lights reflector is 0.6 x 0.6m. I figure I can have 4 pots up to a diameter of 30cm that sit nicely under it with a little room for movement etc. I LST to pot edges like a spider and then let them go up, the pot and the area above it is theirs.

Don't know on the light though.

Mars 2 400 isnt enough light for that space. It could work for veg, but flowering youll need to add another 400 or something similar IMO.

Thanks again all, I have just looked up Mars hydro 700. This may sound like a stupid question but would the 700 be as effective as 2 -300s? It would be less costly.

Personally if I had it to do over, I would go with the reflector series, you can turnoff excess red and save $ during veg. 2 lights is always better than 1, one could fail and then you have something left at least.
